EMINEM - MMLP2 |OT| They Call Me Slim Shady (I'm Back?)

The first 4 singles (Berzerk, Survival, Monster and Rap God) were so meh it's unreal. Expected very little from the rest of the album.

Listening to the rest of the songs, I love it. Impressed.

I LOVED Recovery and this is even better. Didn't expect it.

Relapse better than The Eminem Show?

And I fux with Relapse, but whoa.

Listening to the album now.; will post impressions later. It's just good to see good ol Em back, revisiting the dark and gritty world that The Marshall Mathers LP encompassed.

Okay.. Keep in mind the comment I made on the previous page when I rank the album.. Off first impression..

MMLP > TES > SSLP > Relapse > Recovery = MMLP2 (interchangeable until I figure this out, but I know I enjoyed Relapse more) > Encore.

Gonna let this sink in. But it is definitely the most conflicted I've been over any of his album.

ugh Headlights is soooooooo great. Em's most personal track ever? Ruess is perfect for it.

He's got some awkward off beat lines early in that song and I just am not feeling the "feelings" part of that track at all.

I like enough of the other tracks to cop the Deluxe of the album though. I only dislike 3 songs on the album. Stronger Than I Was is just.. super wierd. Maybe I'll get used to it but I'm on the fence now. That could potentially push it to 4 disliked songs.

Oh man, this stretch from Survival to Berzerk is terrible. And nothing before that was all that great either.

This album doesn't touch top tier Eminem. At all.

Yeah, this album is definitely no where near SSLP, MMLP or TES. Too much pop and singing. Lack of Dre beats.

So far it's 3/16 for me.

Yeah. Once again, the production on Relapse trumps Recovery and MMLP2, now. I think I only liked 25% of Encore, maybe less. But to me, this is as mediocre as Recovery. Only digging around 70% of the album. I wouldn't mind if he signed out on this. He proved his point already. He's a legend. Lol.

Agreed. Seems more like a mess to me.

I need to hear the bonus tracks. I don't have much hope that they'll be any better.

Two songs in. The end of Bad Guy was good, but the rest was just a mess. It's ridiculous how much better these recent songs would sound if he would sort his flow out.

Bad Guy has some flow issues (with how he raps), but I overall dig the mellow sound of the song. And the lyrics aren't wildly embarrassing like they have been in recent years. Ending was awesome too. Actually think Bad Guy was one of the better things I've heard from him in recent years.

Color me surprised.

This album is straight skip, skip, skip, skip, skip after Rap God. This not good.

SSLP = MMLP = TES

Listened half way so far. It started off strong (Rhyme of Reason, Survival, Legacy), but started to wane afterwards (Asshole, Berzerk, Rap God etc). Hope it picks up towards the end.

I think what I enjoy about So Far is that the verses come across like radio station "freestyles." Reminds me of his old Wake Up Show verses. But as a cohesive song, I can see what people would dislike about it.. because it's really not cohesive at all.

Just finished Bad Guy. Good shit so far, love the last couple minutes. Cautiously optimistic.
hype levels still at maximum

edit: omg Parking Lot skit dat ref shiiieetttt

You can't be fucking serious.

I'm curious, what other rap artists/albums do you like? I think I already know the answer.
Rap isn't quite my "main" music love, so feel free to be an elitist snob and tune me out, but if you're gonna predict Odd Future since I dig a horrorcore album so much.... I do like (not love) Tyler's first 2 albums, and Earl and Frank are great.

besides that off the top of my head

kanye
kendrick
jay
schoolboy q
cudi
dre/nwa/snoop

asap
2chainz
pusha
outkast
wale
pac

wu tang
danny brown
juicy j
roots
death grips

spaceghostpurrp

etc

I agree Relapse is underrated. But it still doesn't touch his greatest work. It has some really awful songs. And his different voices are very hit and miss (on some tracks, they totally work given the genre the album is). It's just way too hit and miss to be considered a classic.

Up to Brainless (lol at the dialogue from Superbad in the intro)

Dislike so far:

Asshole
Survival

Legacy is meh. So Much Better is a grower. I really like the rest.

Rhyme or Reason sounds like it could be on the Gorillaz' Demon Days.
And on Bad Guys it sounded like he was implying this is his last album but I've only listened to it once so far.

Em is always gonna be my favourite rapper though and this album won't change that either way. But it's decent so far. I'm not disappointed...yet

The feelings are settling in and I've honestly came to the conclusion that this is dead ass tied with Recovery to me. And I don't consider Recovery good. It's the most mediocre thing I've listened to by him.

So.. One above Encore. BUT.. The songs that I like on here, I genuinely like. Maybe I should mix the songs I liked on Recovery and clash it with songs I like on MMLP2 and get me as close to an above average album as possible. I cold probably salvage out a nice 10-11 track album lol.

Relpase was the last he came close to the dark Em I came to love. He's still one my favorites.. But after this.. I'm honestly convinced he should retire. And I believe this is his last album on the contract.

After his last four albums, I wholeheartedly agree even though he probably won't retire any time soon.

I mostly agree, but I still think this is better than half the shit out today. Which is sad.
Objectively, I'd rather listen to this than half the shit out today, while subjectively I think we're all just desperate for Em to drop another classic, which is why we deem his last couple outings unacceptable or subpar; every listening just reminds us that the "real" Em isn't coming back.

I see where you're coming from Syph.

Okay. How do y'all feel about So Far... This is easily the most wtf track ever. Lol. It sounds country at parts.

I'll let you know not there yet haha listening to Asshole currently.
Also, does anyone have production credits besides the singles?
