Empire: Total War Demo is Coming Tomorrow

My hype for this game was huge and the demo totally killed it. The land battle was garbage. I have no desire to play a game based around a style of combat so blatantly idiotic. I'll take swords and archers over this any day.
I'm still eagerly anticipating it. After going through 4 games of swords/arrows I'm ready for a change. Not a big fan of the naval battles but I loved the feel of the land battles and it sounds like the campaign map gameplay is much improved. I don't have much time to play games anymore so the only thing that is really getting me down are the load times. Hoping they fix those by release but I'm doubtful.

I still recommend the first Medieval: Total War with the Napoleontic mod. That's the way it should be done...

Startling recommendation based off a comparison with a demo.

pre-ordering blindly tonight since I have a best buy gift card to burn before the Canadian 25% off pc games deal ends. These games have a good pedigree so I trust retail will be a must own. I don't see anything else on the pc front in the foreseeable future that best buy will be selling anyways. Performance issues aside, what didn't you guys like about the demo?

General TW AI as Frag mentioned is the main thing that stuck out to me. I had the exact same thing happen to me as Frag, where Washington pulled all his troops save arty and a couple units back to meet my flanking force. That and the weak boat combat. I'm hoping that cranking up the difficulty will solve some of that though. If all else fails, the great mod scene will help out.

Bumping this because Total War Center has been pretty active with the demo-they've managed to find a way to unpack the game's files to reduce load times in half ( link ) , let you play Brandywine as the insurgents, etc.

The load time thing is a pretty big deal for a lot of people. 25-30 second loads instead of a minute+ for battles is serious business.

I'm completely disappointed by the naval battle too. The wind has no effect on the ships! It's just pathetic. You can basically move any way you want. Totally ruins it. It's a shame because otherwise the ships look great and are quite detailed.

I was very hyped for the naval battles but this falls so short of my expectations. The battles in Age of Sail II were so much better than that...
Even if the full version doesn't end up having more realistic options to enable, you can be sure there will be a bunch of realism naval mods out there to address this. :D

Good to hear, I will definitely try out the demo again. Too bad DoW II just arrived, E:TW will have to wait :D .
