The challenge is ten replies...can we do it GAF?

- Recruit units on general

- Not religion, but political freedom

- Mughals of India are in!

- new engine

- set in 1700 to the early 1800’s

- Real-Time 3D Naval Warfare

- weapons will jam and misfire, cannons will seize up and explode

- Bagpipes, drummers, flautists and trumpeters will fill the air with play out over the crack of musket fire

- reduced importance of siege battles

- formations will play importance

- Overwrite of fire use

- Hide in buildings

- Campaign map - No longer tiled

- Peter the great of russia and Charles of sweeden

- The game spans from 1700 to 1800

- The campaign map will be larger. It includes Europe, North and South America, North Africa, Central Asia, India, and Indonesia
- You will be able to build colonies. It will make a difference, whether you settle in the wilderness of the Americas, or whether you can use preexisting infrastructure in India.

- All infrastructure built within a province, will be represented on the Strategic Map. You can upgrade buildings, by clicking on them on the Strageic Map. There will still be a capital though.

- Enemy armies can plunder or conquer buildings within provinces.

- Revolutions can happen, leading to the separation of countries. (As an example, a rebellion of the Scotts was given).

- You can change the form of government between: absolute monarchy, constituional monarchy, and Republic. This will directly influence how you can deal with revolts and how fast you develop new technologies. Other factions will treat you according to your form of government.

- Taxes can be set seperately for Nobles, Burghers, and Peasants.

- The AI system will be reworked and improved. An example given is that the AI will be unified, meaning that no longer the military AI will try to conquer a territory, while the diplomatic AI is working towards an alliance with the owner of said territory.

- Diplomats, Spies and Assassins will no longer be represented on the map. A new system will be introduced.

- Historical Generals can appear.

- The mercenary system will be reworked. While you can still hire mercenaries they won't be incorporated into your regular army. How this works out exactly is not clear yet.

- Infantry can occupy buldings. They will automatically take up defensive positions and fire out of windows/doors.

- Naval warfare will be included. Each side will be able to command up to 20 ships within one battle.

- Wind will play an important role in the battles. You can set the sails of your ship according to your desired speed. You can choose between three types of ammunition, damaging hull, sails, or crew respectively.

- Multiplayer battles are supposed to be improved. A ladder will be implemented.

Scans are from a german mag so please don't bitch at me if I've done something wrong by linking these -

Oh.

I never played Medieval II, so I'm not sure if they ever fixed some of the main concerns I had with Rome, but I am very excited for this game I won't be able to play because my computer stinks.

:(

Mod the AI of existing TW games if you haven't, it plays a lot better after doing so.

oh god I want to sex this image with the unbridled fury of catherine the great's favorite horse

Wow, this looks hella good. Too bad I suck at RTS/ strategy games.

TW games are actually really lightweight in both regards, IMO.

Maybe this will be the first non-Paradox game that might actually deal with the European history of that era and actually include Eastern Europe. It seems like whenever this time is brought up in video games, it is either completely US (civil war) or UK/colonial based.

I've been waiting for this era for a while so it's great that a) it looks incredible, b) has naval combat and c) the map is pretty much the whole world.

Visually though, and just beyond these pics, it should be a spectacular looking game. I say that based off Medieval 2 which, with all its battlefield colours and pagentry, was a spectacular looking game in its own right.

Oh, Total War, how I love being hyped for thee.

I have good memories of that first E3 trailer for Rome: Total War back in 02 or 03 with the Legion and the Germanic barbarians.

are you talking about byzantium etc, or Russia (which has been included before)...if you are talking about countries in areas such as Poland, Romania, Czech etc...weren't they part of teh crusades...eastern europe is not likely to be a focus in any of their games though

its funny that this game looks more impressive graphically, even given the scale, than most fps...down to the detail level...

Not true.

It's very impressive but it simply can't look better than even 2005 FPSes.

Can't wait for this! This will be why I upgrade my PC. Hopefully it'll be out early next year and they fixed the problems in the previous game such as rifleman (aque something..) just standing there waiting to be shot. Kinda skeptical about the naval battles so I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out. Also can't wait till they build the series up to WW1.

Gotta consider everything that's going on that make up the whole picture. Not just 4 dudes shooting at each other.

Or african tribal warfare.

That'd be an interesting one.

Still, I love the Napoleonic era and I'm glad they're well on their way to producing a faithful recreation of it. And as someone mentioned above in most historical games you get the British version, or the American version, but you Total War games give you the version of the little vassal state in the middle of Europe just trying to make it. It's good stuff.

Hopefully they'll create an actual reason for ships to fight. In prior TW games I'd only even move my ships for maybe 10 turns a game while transporting units somewhere

I assume so...

There's some really good changes in there.

I can´t wait!.

I am waiting too for Shogun 2, I think it will happen at some point, but I am glad they go for a so different type of battles this time.

Looking great, the series is quite good so yet another RTS to look forward to.

Not RTS but TBS combined with RTT.

One of the reasons why it to me is the besst strategy franchise.

Looks hot. All my Hornblower-type navy fantasies can now be fully realized. :D
People not familiar with the series might mistake your horn-blower-in-the-navy fantasies for something else.

don't fudge up with the AI this time.

Nothing wrong with the AI. :P It's just fighting against harder odds than other games in the strategy genre.

I mean it can't re-supply in the midst of battle, it has to take a lot more things into consideration and the human player cheats by placing the army in a corner not forgetting the constant save/load.

We can only call the AI bad when other games does it better! But it's okay to hope for the AI to improve.

May have to buy it. Maaaaaaaay have to. Would rather they had revisited Shogun again, though. Or african tribal warfare.

Ahh, Shogun.

Published by EA but yet the game in the series with fewest bugs.

I hope they'll revisit it some day though perhaps the TW series has become too big.

Looks amazing. I didn't really like Medieval 2 but this looks like a proper sequel in the series.

Too many castle sieges (which also had the worst controls) :( But rumours go that it's better balanced now.

Woo!

I'm looking forward to the day when the scope expands enough to make the ultimate, worldwide Total War game, after which they can focus on that scope in different periods. I'm not opposed to smaller snapshots, but, man, that hypothetical game is going to be mindblowing.

Praphics look unbelievable for game of that scope. I hope the game delivers, I had a fun time with Shogun: Total War, but never picked up a Totwal War game since then. This time setting is verytempting as it'svery fresh for video games.

I will buy this. Oh yes I will.

Oh, I so wan't a Warhammer Fantasy: Total War game. That would be the best game ever. Seriously.

Have the Portuguese been playabale in any of the Total War games yet?'ve only played Shogun which I loved.I should play a new one one of these days...

Portugal is a playable faction in Medieval 2: TW.

This looks phenomenal. I'm another Medieval 2 abscondee but Rome is one of my favourite games ever (I also loved Shogun). It seems they're making lots of worthwhile changes and improvements.

I won't be able to buy this until I upgrade my PC sometime in late 2008, but I am very impressed. Very impressed.

Diplomats, Spies and Assassins will no longer be represented on the map. A new system will be introduced.

I really hope whatever they do here is still awesome. The agents/generals/family members are the most addictive part of the crack that is TW.

Also, fuck I need to upgrade.

Glad to hear AI is going to be improved, and I believe them this time. These are the kind of games I upgrade the PC for..

I'm pretty sure both R:TW and I know M2:TW had good usermade AI mods if you weren't satisfied with the AI that ships in the product by default.

I own so many total war games I feel like I belong in the dynasty warriors clique.

But this looks so gooooddddrrooolll

Well the AI in M2:TW I didn't find all that bad (especially compared to RTW), but I just lost interest in playing it after I knew it was just going to be one drawn out siege after the next to conquer the lands. I'm sure the AI mods are good but I'm busy with other games now -_-
