End of the World: How and When?

I'm kinda hoping it ends in some awesome alien war between two galactic races, and Earth is caught in the middle.

At least it would be exciting.

I can't imagine a scenario where humanity wipes itself out completely. Even an all our nuclear war would only wipe out a large percentage of the population, not all of it.

So to truly end the world, I think you're looking at the Sun's eventual expansion, or an unexpected event in the universe.

I think a gamma ray burst aimed directly at earth within our galaxy would wipe out everything on earth including the plants. But yeah, I agree it would be really hard to do it with a nuclear war. It has to be something astronomical.

I imagine the end of humanity will come much sooner than the end of the world. Most likely by our own hands. We're pretty horrible.

I'm pretty sure we'll be wiped out by an asteroid collision or something well before the Sun expands.

I suppose there's a good chance we blow ourselves up or something even before that happens. I dont think it'll be nuclear weapons, but who knows what sort of crazy technologies get developed in the next thousand years that could lead to extinction-level weapons.

I don't know about you guys...

But i'm waiting for the eclipse.

Sept 25th, 2016.

Gaborn makes a thread about a puppy that was adopted and lived with a good family and nothing bad happens.

I believe we will find out in 2029 whether or not we will be dead in 2036.

An asteroid is passing beneath our satellites in 2029, but won't hit the earth. However, we don't have accurate enough models to know if it will be affected by our gravity just right so that when it comes back again, its going to strike earth in 2036.

They were saying they can pretty realistically avoid that asteroid with a couple of unmanned things to go and fly beside it to change its trajectory. Or land on it..or something.

A random occurence every single electronic device in the world stops working. Chaos and death within days.

"You lot. You spend all your time thinking about dying. Like you're going to get killed by eggs or beef or global warming or asteroids. But you never take the time to imagine the impossible. That maybe you survive."

Even if civilization crumbles, as long as there are humans, we will be back. Maybe it would take a few thousand years, but we have too much planetary spread and accumulated culture to be completely reset.

I also think these types of scenarios are horsehit, and this kind of thinking his counter productive.

Keep your UFO cults and your christian doomsday rubbish. I am for the future.

We won't ever see the "end of the world." We will only see the end of humanity. And that will probably be a result of nuclear war or some type of war that impacts food and water supply.
