Enemies/bosses that eat you

Shit's scary!! To this day an enemy that can eat you and instantly kill you unnerves me, usually because it implies that they'll be high-pressure chase situation. For me, the two scariest ones are:

Big Bertha (or Boss Bass? I dunno) from Super Mario Bros. 3

I think this is actually one of my first gaming moments that I can recall, and it put me off for a bit from playing it because damn was that fish ever persistent!

Choking Weed from Gradius III

latest

This one affirms things a little more as to me having a weird paranoia about being eaten in a game, because everything in that game kills you! I actually only recently beat this boss, as I'd never been able to get past it simply due to how anxious this fight made me. It was especially distressing given that it actually tried to pull you in.

Does anyone else have this anxiety about bosses eating you?

Not entirely related, but this reminded me how you could get eaten by a giant Venus Fly Trap in one of the Nancy Drew games.

I have anxiety when enemies just keep chasing you. Doesn't have to be a boss. I hated
those hands that would chase you in the Twilight Realm even through the doors
in Twlight Princess.

Another one that makes me cringe: When metroids chase you and especially when they actually grab you, both in the 2D and 3D iterations. Ugh.

Big Bertha in the OP might be the only one I recall enjoying. The first time playing through that level in the gif filled my siblings and me with so much dread and any part of the level where you had to touch the water was the scariest thing to me.

I did think Zone Eater in Final Fantasy VI had a really novel surprise back then, too.

Generally I don't like this style of instant kill enemies because they tend to be more frustrating than anything else. I can't think of examples because they come to mind as cheap and commonly with poor hit detection so frequently it won't feel like the character was in a position to be eaten but the game determined it anyhow.

Wall Masters/Floor Masters (not sure if they're the same creature as the one you're referring to) give me a similar level of anxiety for sure.

How can vore be anything but pleasure?

Well you either die because you got ate or you get really sick because you ate a person

Ogres from Dark Souls 2.
The hitbox is worse than it's bite.

I don't get anxiety from it, but it always surprises me when it happens. Mainly because it doesn't happen a whole lot.

I don't have gifs, but I recall an enemy from Dead Space 1 or 2 that would grab you and slowly pull you towards what I assume to be it's mouth.

Shadow of Colossus Water snake boss, while he does not swallow you, I would always freak out thinking that he would, that and I get anxious as fuck in dark water sections in games.

Belome from Super Mario RPG eats party members and creates clones of them.

The Sandworm enemy from Final Fantasy X eats party members, removing them from battle for a few turns before spitting them out for huge damage.

And many more. The best way to stop them is to literally throw shit in their mouth.

I would outright refuse to play chase sequences in games when I was young, and I still hate them even today.

One of the bosses in Splatoon you have to break his teeth to escape before his mouth goes *snap* and you insta-die :( I was doing the amiibo challenge with the roller and apparently shaking the roller twice is too slow and I kept getting eaten ^^; Apparently he is called Ravenous Octomaw lol.

He doesn't scare me, but wallmasters from Zelda definitely do haha.

Dom: "How do we kill this thing?!"
Marcus: "Like the worm--from the inside!"

One of the bad guys in Gears of War 2. I can't remember its name but I'll always remember the fight because it took me forever to figure out what to do so the above conversation is etched in my brain.

I never let it get to that degree, haha. Came close a couple times though!

That reminds me of Balloon Fight with its killer fish, but that at least has a pretty defined "don't go near the water" danger zone

C'Thun from World of Warcraft. That's him all shielded up in Phase two. During that phase, he'll swallow random players who must then fight the tentacles in his stomach. And while we're talking about stomach fights...

Yoshi's Island - Prince Froggy. Just look at that smugness.

This happens in the first half of the game but in the relatively recent
Devil's Third
a boss can grab you and bite off your head and part of your chest in one chomp for a game over.

Spoiling tagging because it's pretty different than what else you see in the game.

As someone that has a weird phobia of this kind of thing it always weirds me out.

It's even worse when you have to fight them from within their intestines.

Two of the Monokumas in Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls have 1 hit kill eat animations, bit spoilery to post which ones.

The biggest pain in Natural Selection is getting eaten by an Onos, slowly waiting and hoping someone would kill it before it digested you.
