Enemies that ruin the game for you

So probably close to a year or more after beating it on Normal, I decided to go back and try Bayonetta on Hard. Took me a little while to get back into the groove, but after a chapter or two I started feeling pretty competent in my skills. Now, I'm not the best at Bayonetta combat, I still die once or twice or three times per chapter, but I'm not a chump either. I have a handle on dodging, countering, all the good stuff. It's challenging, but still fun.

And then these fuckers come along in Chapter 8:

Grace_and_Glory.jpg

And not the normal fire and lightning ones either, no, the stupidly difficult advanced ones that don't allow you to activate Witch Time. They're insanely fast, and combos rarely stagger them. Oh, and it's not just one, it's THREE at a time so even if you successfully get a hit or two off, you're likely fucked because one just did an attack off-camera that's going to hit you. Oh, and that's not bad enough? You're also dealing with constant cars barreling at you that will hit you if the camera isn't focused in the right direction.

After about a half-hour of doing nearly no damage to any of them, while they kill me over and over again, I just shut the game off and am completely soured on the overall experience. I love Bayonetta, don't get me wrong, but this one enemy has completely ruined the game for me, and it's likely I won't touch it on Hard ever again after tonight.

So what enemies in games piss you off to the point that the game no longer is fun anymore?

The Three Headed Dogs in God of War 3. There's one point where you have to verse three of them at once. After dying for the 20th time on Hard, I threw my controller.

Cliff racers. I completely forget they even existed the last time I fired up Morrowind thanks to whatever mod I had installed.

Don't hate the game, hate the player!

No but seriously, the only thing thats turned me off any game is getting stuck and not knowing where to go next, pretty much any enemy is easy after the 2 millionth battle.

GAF vision: Enemies which ruin the game.
Riposte vision: Enemies which improve the game.

I hope Bayonetta 2 has more enemies like the one in the OP.

Resident Evil 6 zombie dogs. Fuck that shit

Push RT/R2 and LT/R2 at the same time when they are nearby :3

Geth Stalkers, Mass Effect. In a game with shit combat, the last thing it needed was these idiots bouncing around. Maybe it's better on PC where you don't have to fight the sticks to target them. The final boss of the game has the same animations as this, but with a gajillion hit points, making it the single worst fight in the whole series.

That's funny. A friend and I were just talking about this last night during a session of Borderlands 2...

The flying enemies in that game really piss us off! Especially because of the weapon paths we have decided to take. He is using shotguns and sniper rifles and I'm using SMGs and pistols / revolvers. Thank goodness for our homing grenades.

I didn't really like them either, but on hard they weren't that bad. Spamming torture attacks work pretty well on these fuckers. Then you just need to dodge like a mofo and place a few hits here and there (using a high damaging weapon like durga's charged attacks is useful). When you kill one of them, just pick up the weapon it drops to deal extra damage to the other ones.

As for an enemy I hate... The demon maws from Super Meat boy. Seriously, fuck them. They are hard to avoid as it is (they follow you like tracking missiles) but when they hit a wall they explode in 8 smaller demon maws that fly in all directions (and they always seem to fly in your direction). If you want to see what it looks like, here's a video.

This. Halo 4 is the best Halo automatically by not having Flood in it.
Halo 4 is the third Halo game to not have the Flood in it.

And I like fighting the Flood in Halo 1. I feel like they got downgraded in Halo 2 and 3.

I'm proud to say I mastered how to beat them on the highest difficulty. Definitely the hardest part of the game. It was a few years ago but I remember there being a certain pattern to how you take care of them.

After being incredibly surprised with the gameplay of DmC, I cannot *stand* the color coded enemies that require the use of a specific weapon. Who thought, in a game about free-flowing combat where you do what you "feel," that enemies that severely strip down your combat options would be fun?

The absolute worst offenders are Shielded Blue (Angel) enemies. Let's take shielded enemies and have them only take damage from the weapons the worst at getting around shields! It's not difficult, it's just...annoying.

Soakers - Enemies that kills ur thumb faster than you can kill them cause of all the button mashing you have to do to take em down.

Suiciders - Fuck you trying to sneak-blow up in mah face while I'm enjoying myself killing ur friends!

Don't think there's any game ever where I've enjoyed these two types of enemies.

don't remember rap battles in God of War 3...

but seriously, i don't know which fight you're talking about. i remember a fight with one three headed dog and one satyr, and as you rip the heads off the dog 2 more satyrs come out. really difficult part of the game.

I haven't played GoW3 yet, but that gives me flashbacks to the same type of enemy in God of War 2, and I remember hating those. Ugh. Not looking forward to breaking open my copy of 3 now.

My problem is I can't ever get enough energy to pull off the Torture Attack. Usually I manage to successfully dodge two of them, but the third hits me and I go back to square one and lose all the energy. Or a car clips me at the worst time. My biggest success has been with Durga/Odette but it's still frustrating as hell. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow when I'm not tired and annoyed.

JET Loaders

Rakks die when you so much as sneeze on them. Shoot surveyor drones as they fly directly towards or away from you, sniper rifles are great for insta-killing them. JET loaders have 3 critical spots and only do the most shit when landed.

I have way more problems with the super badass psychos or the fuckers carrying a giant shield.

Here are some.

The first one always gets me, I like bullet bills themselves, but I dislike having to play the levels with them. The hand when it snatches you can be quite bothersome, bloopers in Mario 3 are unforgiving at times, the Star..well yeah. And Boss Bass is always a menace due to it's hit 1 ko (or 1 hit swallow).

That sounds like a good idea. Sometimes with games like that I just can't manage to do anything anymore because I'm tired and/or frustrated. Taking the night off works wonders in general. Actually just yesterday I was stuck on Dark Souls' final boss (even though I've beaten him countless times before). I tried again this morning and got him on my 3rd try (which is still pretty bad but at least I kiled him haha).

Anything that can hit you from a far distance, and even OFF FUCKING SCREEN

Why do developers continue to do this type of shit? Why? Why why why why why WHY?!?!?

the flood
Definitely this, as someone else posted they weren't so bad in Halo 1, but to me in Halo 3... ugh.

Rakk in Borderlands 2 are just really annoying.

And... my contribution would be... enemies you have to kill with button mashing. I hate mashing and you have to mash like a motherf'er in God of War 1. I'm playing the game the HD version and already I couldn't be bothered to mash against the Hydra and Minotaurs.

Unkillable enemies that make you waste all your supplies before you realize they're unkillable. JRPGs are the worst offender, but that creature that stalked you at the end of Dead Space 2 was no fun either. It wasn't too bad when I realized I just had to run, but only after I'd thrown away all the ammo I'd carefully scavenged. Laaaaaaame.

Have you played Dead Space 1 before? :p If so it should have been obvious what the creature was.

Man Gracious and Glorious are amazing to fight. The cars are annoying yeah though

Equip shotguns on your legs and feet and go to town. (Or use the laser guns on your feet with Scaraburough Fair on your hands).

I admit I felt your way for a long time when I first encountered them, but I played a fuckload of Bayonetta and now they don't really piss me off me that badly. No... it's fighting two Jeannes at once you gotta watch out for
