Epic Racist Moment on Game Show

Coincidentally I saw this a few days ago when a friend put it up on Facebook - the black guy's response was great.

I don't know why people think it was scripted, it look like you're giving a guy that sounds straight-up ignorant waaaaaay too much credit.

It's the Polynesian accent. All he was saying was he didn't like block people. Obviously being from overseas, he assumed the TV was the guy's head.

Damn block people, always hurts so much when you step on them.

I cannot get over the fact that people are shocked because one Minority hates another, its not like they all see themselves as together against the White Man. I grew up around Koreans and boy did they hate Blacks, I know Mexicans that hate their Puerto Rican brothers, and living on Hawaii for many a year I am not surprised at all that a Polynesian stated this, they hate everyone LOL

im not doubting it in the slightest, but is there a reason that koreans hate blacks?

Well I know black people who hate Arabs but they sure as hell don't hate them enough to announce it on national television with said minority in attendance.

Not gonna lie, hearing that guy gave me the chills. Absolutely disgusting....

The irony is he's a minority himself. Sickening.

Pfft. I have to deal with my own set of prejudices. It's just stupid how white people get defensive about how many things have been set up in their favor. Just deal with it already and examine your privilege. No one is claiming you didn't earn anything, just realize how certain shit is stacked more in your favor because you're white.

If there is a perception white people are on the whole more racist, it's probably due to the callous ignorance many display when forced to deal with a reality that they honestly get to wear privilege blinders to.
I have blinders on. Please educate me on all of the advantages I have.

Greatest show ever.

It was on British TV, Channel 4, about 6-7 years ago maybe longer.

I think it was cancelled after a few series because it's too controversial.

The British version never had blatant racism, not that I saw, but homophobia and other prejudices (back-handed racism) were apparent every week.

The show's premise is to give £50,000 to someone you don't know...if you don't "like" black people, gay people, fat people, single mothers for whatever reason you ain't giving them £50,000.

Pretty much every week you could guarantee one person would say "the gay guy's living the life and will probably spend all the cash on holidays, drugs, and clothes with holes in the buttocks... they all lead a hedonistic lifestyle by choice."

The best bit on the British show was where they setup a "lost mobile" in the back of a taxi carrying the contestant, recording what they did...half the contestants would steal the mobile... would you give £50,000 to someone who would steal a mobile?

We all know if NWS Natural was on the show he would in no way give £50,000 to a "privileged white man".

Korea is an extremely homogeneous society and relatively few Koreans have even met a black person; thus, for many Koreans, their view of black people is based on stereotypes with no black acquaintance/friend/public speaker to challenge those stereotypes.

When it comes to the Korean-American community, there's also a history of friction, the most prominent being the LA. race riots:

In addition to the immediate trigger of the Rodney King verdicts, a range of other factors were cited as reasons for the unrest. Specific anger over the sentence given to Korean American shop-owner Soon Ja Du for the fatal shooting of black teenager Latasha Harlins was pointed to as a potential reason for the riots, particularly for aggression towards Korean Americans. Publications such as Newsweek and Time suggested that the source of these racial antagonisms was derived from cultural differences, and from perceptions amongst blacks that Korean-American merchants were taking money out of their community and refusing to hire blacks to work in their shops. According to this view, these tensions were intensified when Du was sentenced to five years probation but no jail time after a jury convicted her of manslaughter.

.....

The Korean-American community in Los Angeles refers to the event as "Sa-I-Gu" (literally 4-29, the first day the riots broke out). The riots prompted various responses from the Korean-American community, including the formation of activist organizations such as the Association of Korean American Victims, and increased efforts to build collaborative links with other ethnic groups.
During the riots, many Koreans from throughout the area rushed to Koreatown, heeding a call put out on Korean-language radio stations for volunteer security guards. Two of the most iconic and controversial television images of the violence showed two Korean merchants firing pistols repeatedly from a military stance, and Korean guards firing AR-15s from store rooftops. There was a lot of activity to protect the Korean businesses, especially in Koreatown. Many Koreans had weapons, including but not limited to: shotguns, AR-15s, semi-automatic AK47-style rifles, and semi-automatic Uzi.
According to Edward Park, the 1992 violence stimulated a new wave of political activism among Korean Americans, but it also split them into two main camps. The liberals sought to unite with other minorities in Los Angeles to fight against racial oppression and scapegoating. The conservatives emphasized law and order and generally favored the economic and social policies of the Republican Party. The conservatives tended to emphasize the political differences between Koreans and other minorities, specifically blacks and Hispanics.

I was aware of the race riots, but not the two factions that spawned from it. I should be shocked, but racism of the sort doesn't shock me anymore.

"Three laps ahead in a five lap race."
I guess that's true if you look at blacks as some endangered species needing of extra help to continue on as a breed.

I like to just consider everyone a human being of the same race. Some are tall, some are fat, some are dark, some have red hair. And none of these characteristics deserve a person anything extra.

Did you actually watch the video? This tactic of insinuating that affirmative action and other civil rights policies are the source of racism is really childish. In the video, the debater clearly pointed out that black people are being discriminated against TODAY. I'm glad you view everyone as equal. That's certainly beneficial to society. But you do not represent the vast majority of institutions in the United States which still have a bias against people of color. You want to remove all labels and say everyone is equal, but whether you acknowledge the existence of black people or not, blacks are still being discriminated against and whites are still (statistically) privileged by comparison. How can we be equal when some people are born with an advantage simply because of the color of their skin? How do you suggest we deal with existing discrimination and inequality?

I will never understand the concept of "White Guilt". Are people really that uneducated about racism and discrimination?

Why say that as if I singled out America? Bigotry and racism is a core component in human psychology and biology.

Doesn't that girl look a bit too young?

Looks about 17-21.

There are a lot of 18-24 year olds on GAF so its not creepy.

Ever heard the saying that two wrongs don't make a right? You can't fix racism by instituting legalized racism against one group. The very BEST a government can do to alleviate racism, is to make everything equal for everyone. Period. Eventually things will even out. But holding one group back and giving the other group privileges based purely on how they look, is the very definition of racism, and only creates continued bitterness for generations to come.

How does racism even still exist....?

Shit is SO 1900's

#1 Lack of Education - People are very rarely educated about modern racism in America. In school they hammer your head about slavery and the civil rights movement and then....nothing. So most people aren't aware of the problems of modern racism.

#2 Homogenious Relationships - How often do white people hang out with non-white people? To add into that how often do people who grow up in white suburbs hangout with people who well don't? Very rarely, and the same can be said for vice versa. Human beings almost never engage with people who are different then they are. So when people talk about race they often do so with their friends who are just as uneducated as they are. This is how beliefs like "its easier for a black person to get a job than a white person" still exist and are even prevelant.

#3 Don't Think Outside the Box, and Don't Believe it Exists - This connects to #1. Since people aren't educated they have no idea that it still exists. Like most huge issues, the concept of racism requires a lot of, if not all of, out-of-the-box thinking. We are surrounded with media showing us stereotypes, peers resembling those stereotypes, etc. And yes some times these stereotypes are true at times.. Yes their at the college cafeteria their can be a group of black friends being loud or if you've been in the customer service field you'll have your share experience of snobby whites. You can attack me for this, but I'm sorry you'll have to be naive to not think these things don't happen at times. However one so easily forgets the rest of the tables full of a quiet group of African-American kids. One forgets of the rest of the nice people Caucasians who don't stereotype them. Its sad but this is how people are. People remember the bad more than the good.

The only way to fight racism is to encourage education, bring in more awareness, and try to have people start thinking outside the box.

Nope. Just think it's a silly thing to single out America when there is clearly racism across the globe. Doesn't really matter though, we can agree that racism is something that needs to go away but never will.

Stating that racism is present in America doesn't mean that I stated that its only present in America.

Don't let Puerto Ricans from NYC hear you compare them to Mexicans they will knock you out, I've seen It happen.

*looks up from newspaper*

Minorities still hating each other rather than banding together to end the reign of treachery by THE MAN!

thats why we cant have nice things.

okay, who is systematically being held back by the blacks? I want an answer to this question. If that's the agenda behind federal policy, to hold white males back, it doesnt seem to be working. (To say nothing of wealthy white males, who are getting even wealthier.)

Racism in america clearly exists, but it gets swept up in the larger current of class warfare. I dont think the racism in america is as bad as the racism in europe or south america.

Only because a few hours ago I was asked if I was from Nigeria (based on my "accent") (I'm black/filipino/Hawaiian/Korean...but mostly black. My mom's genes are ridiculously strong) so I'm still coming down from the shock.

How does black sound? I mean really? Without being stereotyping, sure we have more bass in our voice but that guy had bass so....yeah how do we sound?
Sorry, it's my sarcasm. I'm a black non-stereotypical male so, I can't help but make fun of these things. The whole video is absurd.

Just the other day, I had to cringe and non-react when my boss talked about the breast cancer run in Philly. He said it wasn't like the Peurto Rican day parade where, 'they may end up flipping over a car and burning it.' I couldn't really do anything but laugh and it was funny. Either way, I figure since I'm moving to Atlanta, it's an adaptive technique for me to laugh off/make fun of racist things.
