I don't think racism will ever die.

I grew up around Koreans and boy did they hate Blacks, I know Mexicans that hate their Puerto Rican brothers, and living on Hawaii for many a year I am not surprised at all that a Polynesian stated this, they hate everyone LOL

I have blinders on. Please educate me on all of the advantages I have.Devolution said:Pfft. I have to deal with my own set of prejudices. It's just stupid how white people get defensive about how many things have been set up in their favor. Just deal with it already and examine your privilege. No one is claiming you didn't earn anything, just realize how certain shit is stacked more in your favor because you're white.
If there is a perception white people are on the whole more racist, it's probably due to the callous ignorance many display when forced to deal with a reality that they honestly get to wear privilege blinders to.

Wikipedia said:In addition to the immediate trigger of the Rodney King verdicts, a range of other factors were cited as reasons for the unrest. Specific anger over the sentence given to Korean American shop-owner Soon Ja Du for the fatal shooting of black teenager Latasha Harlins was pointed to as a potential reason for the riots, particularly for aggression towards Korean Americans. Publications such as Newsweek and Time suggested that the source of these racial antagonisms was derived from cultural differences, and from perceptions amongst blacks that Korean-American merchants were taking money out of their community and refusing to hire blacks to work in their shops. According to this view, these tensions were intensified when Du was sentenced to five years probation but no jail time after a jury convicted her of manslaughter.
.....
The Korean-American community in Los Angeles refers to the event as "Sa-I-Gu" (literally 4-29, the first day the riots broke out). The riots prompted various responses from the Korean-American community, including the formation of activist organizations such as the Association of Korean American Victims, and increased efforts to build collaborative links with other ethnic groups.
During the riots, many Koreans from throughout the area rushed to Koreatown, heeding a call put out on Korean-language radio stations for volunteer security guards. Two of the most iconic and controversial television images of the violence showed two Korean merchants firing pistols repeatedly from a military stance, and Korean guards firing AR-15s from store rooftops. There was a lot of activity to protect the Korean businesses, especially in Koreatown. Many Koreans had weapons, including but not limited to: shotguns, AR-15s, semi-automatic AK47-style rifles, and semi-automatic Uzi.
According to Edward Park, the 1992 violence stimulated a new wave of political activism among Korean Americans, but it also split them into two main camps. The liberals sought to unite with other minorities in Los Angeles to fight against racial oppression and scapegoating. The conservatives emphasized law and order and generally favored the economic and social policies of the Republican Party. The conservatives tended to emphasize the political differences between Koreans and other minorities, specifically blacks and Hispanics.

I was aware of the race riots, but not the two factions that spawned from it. I should be shocked, but racism of the sort doesn't shock me anymore.Tristam said:Korea is an extremely homogeneous society and relatively few Koreans have even met a black person; thus, for many Koreans, their view of black people is based on stereotypes with no black acquaintance/friend/public speaker to challenge those stereotypes.
When it comes to the Korean-American community, there's also a history of friction, the most prominent being the LA. race riots:

I guess that's true if you look at blacks as some endangered species needing of extra help to continue on as a breed.kame-sennin said:Listen to Tim Wise:

I like to just consider everyone a human being of the same race. Some are tall, some are fat, some are dark, some have red hair. And none of these characteristics deserve a person anything extra.

Ever heard the saying that two wrongs don't make a right? You can't fix racism by instituting legalized racism against one group. The very BEST a government can do to alleviate racism, is to make everything equal for everyone. Period. Eventually things will even out. But holding one group back and giving the other group privileges based purely on how they look, is the very definition of racism, and only creates continued bitterness for generations to come.kame-sennin said:Did you actually watch the video? This tactic of insinuating that affirmative action and other civil rights policies are the source of racism is really childish. In the video, the debater clearly pointed out that black people are being discriminated against TODAY. I'm glad you view everyone as equal. That's certainly beneficial to society. But you do not represent the vast majority of institutions in the United States which still have a bias against people of color. You want to remove all labels and say everyone is equal, but whether you acknowledge the existence of black people or not, blacks are still being discriminated against and whites are still (statistically) privileged by comparison. How can we be equal when some people are born with an advantage simply because of the color of their skin? How do you suggest we deal with existing discrimination and inequality?

Nope. Just think it's a silly thing to single out America when there is clearly racism across the globe. Doesn't really matter though, we can agree that racism is something that needs to go away but never will.Flying_Phoenix said:What exactly is it you're trying to pull?

okay, who is systematically being held back by the blacks? I want an answer to this question. If that's the agenda behind federal policy, to hold white males back, it doesnt seem to be working. (To say nothing of wealthy white males, who are getting even wealthier.)Funtruck said:Not sure if I agree with him but he brings up a legit point that shouldn't just be dismissed as "trolling".
