Escape Dead Island Review Thread

Hmm. I think it definitely took me longer than six hours, and I was around the same level of completion as you. I'd say more around 8~9 hours, because I played it for at least an hour on Friday night, a decent amount of hours on Saturday, and then about two or two and a half hours on Sunday to beat it.

Also, keep in mind that the game really encourages you to play through it a second time, as there's various things you just won't be able to get into the first time around.

That's my total playtime, including the 30 minutes or so I spent replaying through the first part to get some screenshots for my review. I played for 2 hours on Saturday and ~3.5 hours on Sunday until I reached the credits. According to Steam I have 80% of the achievements, and I'm only missing a few related to collectibles and the one for killing a zombie by using all three different combat avenues.

I dunno, I still don't think it's worth it without a significant price drop. There are better horror games out this season that are more deserving of your time.

Because dumb fucks gave them money for the first game and Riptide.

I really enjoyed those two games lol, first one was better than riptide.

The melee combat is excellent, best i've played from first person perspective. I think the game got much hate for the bugs (odd animations, internet connection issues) but most were patched when i started playing on PS3

Dead Island had some of the most fun mods out there.
Fist of the North Star in Dead Island was hours of fun.

Everyone waiting for Dead Island 2 should be waiting for Dying Light.
Dead Island 2 is looking like it will just be a zombie killing sandbox.

Bums me out, I tried Dead island riptide in a whim thanks to Psnow and got hooked in the series, but thus thing looks like jankfest2000

Played it and it's pretty bad. I can see why they shoved it out the door without any attention. I don't know how Dead Island as a franchise is still around.

I enjoyed the mainline Dead Island games. Going in, I knew that the series wasn't known for being the greatest ever and adjusted my expectations. And, in the end, I had a lot of fun. This was when I was lttp with the first one, though I rented Riptide and had fun with it as well.

I like this type of Western RPG, plus zombies, so I'm not surprised I enjoyed them. Dying Light was one of my favourites at E3, too, and seeing some footage of DI2 was a highlight for me.

I started Escape last night, after renting it for a week. Our copy wasn't mailed like Deep Silver's PR thought it was, so one is coming. I wanted to get a head start and figured I'd finish it once the review copy arrived, but it's shorter than expected. (I think IGN's reviewer said he put almost 20 hours in?)

Anyways, I played for several hours and think I'm actually getting close to the end. Or, at least, the latter third of the game. Honestly, I'm enjoying it more than I thought. It's not great, but it's also not bad in my opinion and is kinda fun.

Can anyone tell me how far I am?

I just talked to Cliff's friend, and he said that the redhead didn't have a radio to speak to me with. Jian Mei then gave me a shotgun, and I've gone through part of the facility.

The first time I played this was for four hours, and it was the only time I'd played it before commenting above. I've seen beat the game, via one more session, and my thoughts have changed.

I enjoyed parts of the first half of the game. It was a somewhat enjoyable, but far from great experience for me, a fan of the series. Maybe a guilty pleasure in some ways, but whatever.

The second half really goes downhill in some respects. There's more combat, an emphasis on annoying choke points and a lot of repetition.

It's a 5/10 for me.

Roommate and I have been playing it for a few days now.
It's... alright. Like, please don't spend $40 on it. Maybe $15-20 or less, if possible. The art style is great and the gameplay is decent, but can get boring, drags on through the second part, and is just constantly at an "eh" tone. Still, it's decent for a 6-hour game.

Can someone please spoil what the big twist of the game is ?

Looks like there's some Lost like, or supernatural stuff going on.

looks like borderlands. disgusting cheap semi-cell-shaded in other words.

Borderlands looks quite a bit better. I like how Borderlands looks.

This, I liked at first mainly because it had its own aesthetic and I can be a sucker for Cel-shading. However, after a while it started to feel cheap.

hmm liked the original dead island a lot, and like the concept of the game even though the execution looks bad

will get when there is a big discount, probably soon if reviews are anything to rely on
