It sound like it should work. If you think about it, something like Cut the Rope would either be impossible without touchscreen, or would be much crappier to play. So it doesn't mean that the action puzzle games can't work like that.

Touchscreen only products usually eliminate 25% possibility of the gameplay portion being good. Exceptions being Kirby Canvas Curse aaaand....Kirby Canvas Curse. (there are a few others, I'm exaggerating, it's just so rare I've taken to just assuming the worst).
Meh there are some genres that are improved by touch- albeit very few but there are some.

Yeah, it seems more like a strategy game in some ways...in the sense that it seems you have to sit back and think how to escape with a minimum of input. It's not a run-and-jump game. If some rooms are very tricky you'll probably be happy if it's NOT fast paced.

...like Elite Beat Agents, that's another one. Clearly that would not have worked even half as well with a button set up.
 
Excellent aesthetic but the "touch only" controls leaves me worried. Hopefully by release they'll allow normal control which means I'll likely buy this.

Management games are factually more fun when you can touch the interface ;-)

Good question. This might actually be the first one I've watched livestreamed, so I don't know either. All I can remember is the horrible Reality Fighters demonstration and a live dance performance that had something to do with Move.

Trauma Center, is that a management game for example? I never considered it one, and the touch screen controls obviously worked for that, but it never struck with me due to the absurd anime inserted antics.
 
Huh!

If the final game looks like that, lighting-wise, I think that it may be the only game I know of that's ever looked like a 3d animation student film!

I know, and I didn't mean the game exactly as seen on the Vita. Of course it would have been an iPhone version with probably slightly inferior visuals and perhaps physics. (I don't know)

My point was that games like this tends to be extremely overpriced on gaming handhelds, while iPhone versions of many games are dirt cheap. Zoo Keeper is a good example! :)

Escape Plan: The Vita Gets its Own Limbo
What makes this game a good fit on the Vita is how much you can interact with the environment through the Vita's hardware features (which also makes the puzzles that much harder). For example, to prevent Lil from tripping over a block, you have to push it back with the front touch screen. When you want to move the block back where it was, you use the rear touch panel. Also, the puzzles become more complex as you progress; eventually you'll have to pay attention to what's also going on in adjacent rooms and deal with those extra obstacles simultaneously -- all using gestures, the touch panels, the sixaxis, and so forth.

If killing things is your preference, then Escape Plan has you covered. You'll get the chance to distract evil minions (who attempt to impede your progress) and try to lead them to their deaths -- they like to investigate areas you touch on the screen. And from what I see, they'll even investigate near electric current (or any other hazard) without hesitation -- so death comes easy.

For me, the best part about Escape Plan so far is Lil and Laarg's badges of shame -- the numbers on their stomach reflect how many times they've each died. Here's hoping there's a Platinum Trophy for never dying! For now, we'll have to wait for more details. Heck, we don't even know if this is a download-only title or not -- but I suspect it is.

Gamescom '11: Hands-on with Escape Plan for PS Vita

Escape Plan has a lot going for it.

There are over 50 levels, with some featuring both characters and others just one or the other. There's also online functionality, letting you compete with other players to finish levels quickly and with the fewest deaths and swipes possible.

The sense of mystery surrounding the game is also wonderful - at certain points when either character dies a crowd begins laughing out of nowhere. Who are they? Why are they watching?

As long as the price is fair, I might consider. I don't know about having to use both front and back, might be cool or just annoying.
 
Looks really good. Pleasant surprise really; I did not expect anything to come from Gamescom.*

*I hope it is reasonably priced though. I doubt I'd pay thirty bucks for it.
 
It looks really great, but this is exactly the type of game that is going to have a really hard time distinguishing itself from .99 cent iphone games.

TWEWY couldn't have really been done without a touch screen, or at least it would have been really bad without one

Yep, it's way more whimsical than Limbo. They both have gruesome deaths, but Limbo's style is so stark that it's actually pretty disturbing when the kid gets dismembered/drowned/impaled/electrocuted/etc.

I'm pretty sure "management games" refers to those games from Kairosoft on the iPhone, like Game Dev Story or Mega Mall. Lots of inventory management and selecting rungs on grids in those games, which is fine with touch (or a mouse) but pretty bad with a controller.

Anyway, I imagine the reason they went for all-touchscreen for this was so you could use both hands on the screen without constantly adjusting your grip on the device. It's not ideal, but probably the way to go. I hated games on the DS that mixed stylus and buttons.

Seems to be , the eu.playstation page for this game describes it as PSN release only.

This game really has caught my interest. Good job, Sony. I probably wouldn't pay full retail price, but around $20 doesn't sound bad at all to me.
