ESPN Films 30 for 30 Vol. II Back October 2

Great topic, but a TERRIBLE film/treatment of the subject. Who let this air? Seriously, this film needs a good edit to trim it down to 10 minuets, because that is how much content there is in it.
Thank you! Couldn't believe what I was watching.

I actually just signed up for Netflix (I'm at least three years behind on just about everything in existence). I should probably check these out then.

Any recommendations?

I got the Blu Ray set of the first 30 films a couple of months ago but only had the time to watch a few. My reccomendations are "The Band That Wouldn't Die" (how the Baltimore Colts marching band survived when the Colts suddenly moved to Indianapolis), "Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL?" (history of the United States Football League) and "Muhammad and Larry" (never before seen footage of Muhammed Ali and Larry Holmes preparing for their 1980 title fight). I also enjoyed "Silly Little Game" (the creation of fantasy baseball) for how light hearted it is, especially when compared to a lot of the stories you'll come across in the other documentaries.

Those movies alone so far have been well worth the purchase and judging by the other recommendations, there are plenty more good stories to watch in the series.

The editing really. I would rather have had longer stories than the 15 second snippets from the same people over and over. I've seen the plight of the rich athlete done much better.
That music.

I think the way they did it was to compartmentalize the theme/topic. I think it would look weird if everybody said their piece as a whole and experts commented after they were done.

Like the first segment was about how much money they made and why they made it, the athletes said what they said and the experts/columnist/bloggers commented on the matter. The next segment was about how they spent the money on themselves, then how they tried to invest the money, then how much money they gave to family/friends, etc.

It made it easier to follow the current topic and hear the expert opinion on the matter. I guess they wanted to show this was a problem for all races/leagues/eras. So that is why they had more than a handful of athletes sharing the same thing in different ways.

I mean it's hard to find ones that aren't good, but the two escobars, the u, and once brothers are great. The u makes me laugh hysterically every time

Is Bernie Kosar really broke? (Haven't been able to watch yet)

Well this is the second 30 for 30 he's been on so hopefully he still has money from those.

And in a supreme twist of irony.....

Under National Football League rules at the time, only seniors and graduates could be drafted. Kosar, who was scheduled to graduate over the summer from the University of Miami's business school with a double major in finance and economics, had two years of college eligibility remaining.

It isn't that hard, last nights film was garbage.

The Two Escobars is my favorite of the bunch so far, but I didn't watch all of the films from the first series.

Only had a chance to watch the first half but pretty entertaining so far. I would put it middle of the pack in terms of 30 for 30s, and actually way better than the horribly boring Gretzky one that kicked off Vol. 1 (still one of my least favorite). The music though, wtf.

What this and Gretzky made me wonder though is why they always seem to start out on relatively weak ones. They saved up a lot of aces in Vol. 1 for sure; you'd think they'd want to come strong out of the gate. Even the topic here isn't a particularly sexy one.

That short on Arnold in the Military was pretty good. While he's had some major screwups (various things as Governor, hidden child), I respect his blueprint of seeing goal, achieving goal.

I would like to see a 30 for 30 on the Vikings fuck ups.

Its amazing to me that a team that has been in the playoffs 26 times out of 52 years as a franchise has not won a championship.

Maybe I did, Maybe I didn't

lol

All I got to say I believe all pro athletes take something. Hard work and talent only can take you so far today when everybody expects you to be stronger and faster with every new generation of athletes.

The one on Steve Bartman was been the best so far. Too bad it isn't on the Season 1 blu ray.

That one wasn't "30 for 30." I believe it was just an "ESPN Original Film" like the Fab Five documentary, Magic Johnson documentary, and the agent one.

Yep, great so far. Have to say I have never heard of Benji Wilson before this doc but I'm pretty sure I have seen this picture somewhere before.

Tragic but at least one of the killers turned his life around and is helping others. And even if his version of events was the truth it was still beyond stupid to kill someone over an argument. Makes you wonder though if this guy would have been on the level of Jordan or Magic as pro. Many seem to think he would have.

Also, anyone by chance know the song being played at the end?

I kinda feel bad for the other guy, Omar Dixon, if what Moore said was true and he was just an innocent bystander.

Omar's Dixon's life ruined just by being there. The city of Chicago deserves a lot of blame for that ridiculous emergency policy. That hospital was ill-equipped to save Benji's life. If only Benji would of took heed over his mother's words about etiquette, saying please, thank you, and excuse me when he bumped into Moore. I know his baby mother must wake up in cold sweats over the nightmares she has about Benji. I know she must feel some type of guilt over his murder.

Bumping this for tonight. Tonight it's "Ghosts of Ole Miss". Will watch, because I've been learning about James Meredith's entrance to Ole Miss in one of my liberal arts classes. Should be interesting.
