ESPN's 30 for 30 series (ESPN actually doing something interesting)

it's b/c the philosophy of the series is interesting stories that aren't necessarily the "biggest" stories. there's lots of even smaller ones than that

Luther Campbell on bounties: "I would never encourage anything like that, thats against NCAA rules :D "

Bah, Butch saved the program, shut up luke :P

and WTF is Dan Labastard doing in this doc? He hated the U and badmouth them anytime he could.

damn they sold Butch up the river. You'd figure how he took Miami out of probation hell and recruited what became another National Champion would merit as much credit as what the previous coaches did.

Nice to see they skipped over the 92 Championship, which effectively kicked off the beginning of the end :lol

Whoopie, they beat a #11 Nebraska to win the championship in 91.

Yeah, Butch got f'd over. Because he didn't let his players act a fool, I guess he isn't cool enough for this doc. This ended on a shitty note, actually.

Showing how he took the team out of probation would have been a nice touch. But I guess that is not what this doc was about. It was just about celebrating one era of the history.

I only saw the first 30 minutes and last 5 minutes. Did they just skip over Butch and the 2001 canes?

Yeah they really did Butch bad, he saved our program and made it better than it ever was really. The team from 2000-2002 is easily the best in UM history.

it pretty much focused on the 80s. It ended with the Canes being put on probation, Butch taking over and Luke saying he was a square. The only mention of Butch's success was the text at the end about his record and Coker's championship. They actually glossed over some of the most talent UM had during the early to mid 90s with Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Clinton Portis, ect...

rofl i'm like an hour late but LOL at the rock. he's all chubby and not even playing that game.

so awesome.

The 2001 'Canes were one of the best in college football history, and I am a 'Noles fan.
I don't care what era this movie was going by, any documentary about the canes HAS to include the 2001 team.

That really doesn't make sense when you see what the documentary, and this entire series by espn, is about.

The documentary was incomplete. You can't do a special on the Canes then shit on Butch by only giving him a 5 second cut at the end of it all. Hell, they spent on 20 minutes on Dennis Erickson...

Is there anywhere that I can watch these online? I scoured the internets for streams/torrents and checked every nook and cranny of the espn website. Not even a virus-ridden fake. There has to be somewhere that I can watch all the old ones. I really like these and I've missed out on a few. If anyone knows where I can watch these besides TV(unless it's on demand or something), PLEASE let me know. PM's fine as well. Thanks much.
You can buy them off of iTunes I think.

Really enjoyed last night's doc. I was surprised to see it was 2 hours; I thought these were all going to be 50 minutes. Hopefully there are more lengthy ones in the future.

ESPN Films wrapped up the fall slate of the critically-acclaimed “30 for 30” film project with Billy Corben’s The U, Saturday night immediately following the Heisman Trophy presentation, and earned a 1.8 rating.

That represents an average of 1.8 million homes (2.368 M viewers, P2+) and is ESPN’s highest-rated documentary of all time (The Greatest Game Ever aired December 13, 2008, and earned a 1.4 rating – 1.369 million households, 1.811 M viewers). I hope they actually manage to hit the showtimes this time around.
They have seriously fucked up this series with their scheduling.

How fucking hard it is to pick a day, a time and fucking stick to it?
Half the times I tried to DVR those I ended with the back end of some shitty, not quite ready for primetime sporting event.

By the way, the word on the street is that the Iverson film is phenomenal, which really shouldn't be a surprise since it was made by the guy who did the greatest sport film ever and one of the best documentaries ever made.

I cannot wait for Winning Time. I can't remember the last time something about the Pacers actually made me smile.
I don't know man, whenever I meet a Pacers fan who still believes you can build a winning team around Danny Granger as your franchise player, it always makes me smile.
Well, it's really more of a mean condescending laugh than a smile, but you get the picture.

Robert De Niro set to play Vince Lombardi in movie

(AP) – 6 hours ago

BRISTOL, Conn. — Robert De Niro is set to play Vince Lombardi in an upcoming movie.

ESPN announced Tuesday that the Academy Award-winning actor has agreed to play the Hall of Fame coach in the film it is developing with Andell Entertainment and the NFL.

"Lombardi" will chronicle the years in which he transformed the Green Bay Packers from the NFL's worst team to league champions. It is tentatively scheduled to be released in 2012 during the weekend between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.

Screenwriter Eric Roth, who won an Oscar for "Forrest Gump," has also signed on to the project. De Niro's Tribeca Productions will join the producing group. A director has yet to be chosen.

NICE! Reggie Miller vs the Knicks but that warrants a 30 for 30?

Dude, you have no idea. If you followed the Knicks back then, it was INSANE.

Do watch. Awesome idea for a show!

And it happens again. Nothing is on TV that I want to watch for months and then two shows at the exact same night and time. I'm going with the Pacific though!

Jordan and Kobe wanted to kill him one time or the other. He got under everyone's skin.

It's awesome that it paid off for him with all of those rings.

I mean, yeah, his on-court stuff is well-documented and all, but even in these few interviews so far Miller comes off as a really smug bitch, and yet he pulls it off so well that no unbiased observer can hate him :lol
