Etrian Odyssey / Sekaiju no Meikyuu (Impressions Post #106)

Man, I don't know why I put down this game. It's soooooo good.
Everyone has flipped over to 7, but I'm still feeling the painful ravaging of the second floor. :S

Are you ever supposed to be able to kill
the wyvern from mission 2
on B8F? I'm down to B11F now after just having beat the B10F boss a couple of days ago but I got sidetracked by Front Mission 1st.

Sure, when you're level 60+, it's pretty damn easy! :lol

Where can I find videos of actual gameplay, not the trailers one?

Also, does exist an official European release?

I want hard this game. Looks great to me. Need more videos, more music, more art... and an official release data in Europe!

saw this game on HMV yesterday, was thinking if i should get it, i still havn't finish pokemon after all :/
Well it is from ATLUS so you might want to pick it up even if you aren't done with pokemon just in case you cant find it later.

That's right...I'm going to buy this first, and then Pokemon. I can find Pokemon anytime I want it, but Etrian is rare here >.<

I'm still playing Puzzle Quest -_-

Why can't a play two DS' at once?
Well you might be able to if you used those DS stands that you can put on the table as long as they arent twitch games.

How hard is this game? I don't handle hard games very well. :(
EDIT LMAO OOPS THAT WAS DUMB >< Ive been spending too much time in the ouendan thread.
anyway yeah its pretty hard hardcore dungeon crawler so expect a lot of grinding and a few unexpected deaths.

Its pretty easy on easy but there are multiple difficulties so you can skip hard and very hard if you dont want to play them. I don't usually like hard games though and I found myself addicted to the first game so if you like rhythm games and the music sounds good to you then you should think about getting this.

*smacks you on the forehead*

Anyway, I assume we're sticking with this thread for the english version? Or is someone making an official thread as we speak?

It sounds to me like you're talking about a EBA and not this game at all...

Yup. The thread isn't nearly large enough for another thread to be made. Anyway experts will available round the clock to guide lost adventurers! :D

so i dropped by my local gamestop to see if etrian was out yet.

the clerk proceded to inform me that it is coming out on WEDNESDAY, for those of you asking about the date.

also he told me that store was only getting 2 COPIES in!! so i paid for mine on the spot

It's Gamestop. Understocking is what they do.

Around here Futureshop and Bestbuy (same company now) don't carry niche titles like Etrian Odyssey, nor do any other major stores (that I know of). The only brick n' mortar option is Electronics Boutique.

I'll walk into Best Buy tomorrow and pick one up. I'll see all you pre-ording losers later!

They don't even have the game listed on their website. I'm going to check tomorrow morning as well just in case, but I seriously doubt I'll see it there.

Really? My local Best Buy will certainly carry this. Not that it really matters for me, I have it pre-ordered from Amazon.

I have it preordered at my local gamestop because its the closest store to my house and I have been preordering games there since 2000.

Best Buy usually stocks its stuff on Thursday, Wednesday if you're lucky. But good luck, anyway!
Game is so good.

Gamestop isnt really the only people to blame. Atlus in particular, at least in the past, was notororius for undershipping period. Both the retailer and publisher here can't risk a mass shipment for something so niche. What would they do with an overstock of games that'll never sell? Look at Atlus JP there, they totally undershot production over there.

In any case, I preordered through Amazon. I probably won't get it until next week at the earliest, but I'm in no rush. Massive backlog :(

I've played through Wizardry and its ilk. I'll accept no help from you!

Oh, I thought it came out on the 15th. Well, whatever.

I am avoiding this thread until I beat it, just because of this remark. I'm not even sure why I'm buying more games, this will be the 4th RPG i'm in the middle of. With Odin Sphere soon being 5. Luckily it's on the DS so I can play at work.

Fine then! You will face the same tragic fate as Fight and Heal! :lol

I just watched the videos the other night.

:lol

That aside, I know three stores in a fairly small area that all stock niche stuff like Atlus games. I'll hit all three of 'em, and I should be able to find a copy.

I'd really like to get this, but I'm not sure about the first-person view. I get a huge headache and start feeling nauseous when playing from a first-person perspective for more than a few minutes (which is one of the reasons I have no interest in FPS games). Damn.

For what it's worth, it's much, much slower paced than an FPS game, and once you map out the area, you could always just look at the map you've made to get through the area.

I am grabbing this as soon as I can.. this is old school Bard's Tale 1,2and 3 type of stuff.. I remember chilling with my boy and the c64... one man running the map (on graph paper) and the other running the game... good times

I'm surprised you didn't get the JP version, no wonder the game didn't break 100k! It's your fault! :D

When I found out about it in detail.. it already had an English release...

the wifey bought me a lite and I picked up a crap load of games.. my DS gaming fever is back

Some love for EO:

In reality though, Etrian Odyssey is a challenging, ballsy, rewarding game that gives the otherwise stagnant RPG genre a swift, much-needed kick in the ass.

Hmmm.... errr.... um....

But for those of us who can still remember getting out the graphing paper to get through Tactics Ogre, you can turn off the auto-draw and go all-out old school dungeon crawler.

..........what?

The combat system in Etrian Odyssey is not unlike the one Atlus's Thousand Arms and Shin Megami Tensei games.

.......huh......

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how effective graph paper would be in playing Tactics Ogre...

The combat system in Etrian Odyssey is not unlike the one Atlus's Thousand Arms and Shin Megami Tensei games.

Thousand Arms? Really, guys? This would be the Thousand Arms where only one character (the one furthest to the left) can attack, and everyone else just uses support moves... right?
