Yay! Just found the
Clear Key
. But damn, this game makes a fool of me again. I've been marking where the
Crystal doors
are, but it never occurred to me to mark their color!

Ah... good thing that I did! :D

I just got revive. Really glad I won't be going all the way back to town, reviving, resting, going back down as much. My dark hunter in the front row dies constantly.

I'm kind of stuck on my Protector, too. I don't see any abilities on the list that I must have, unless Defender's really good. The description is a little confusing.
defender is REALLY good also smite (learned at shield lv 10 and fortify lv 5) does tons of damage
anyway i reached floor B16F,
it has annoying quicksand that force you to walk a certain path and making a map is starting to become hard,oh well guess it's part of the game
the 4th boss was pretty easy, and everyone was alive at the end of the battle... i also got the special drop of the boss
which got me a nice +220 ATK bow for the low price of 110.000 en
does anyone (japanese gaffer?) has any idea what triggered the peculiar drop and how i should trigger the drop for the other 3 bosses that i already fought?

Potentially a stupid question, but does a Prot actually need to have a shield equipped in order to use her defensive skills?

Alright, just started the game. Is there any tips on this?

I get my ass whooped on the first floor with the monsters, am I missing doing something?

could Teasel ****ing use spoiler tags? I dont want to know what to expect in the other floors, so please sftu or use spoiler tags

well i didn't believe someone would count that as a spoiler if you are talking about my last post

To be fair, you've forged on ahead quite beyond where most of us who just got the game a few days ago have managed, and you haven't bothered to spoiler-tag anything.

spoilers arent only related to the storyline of the game, there are some stuff about gameplay that I dont want to know too. especially in a game like this.

just spoilers tags whenever you are going to post because you are way ahead of any us.

Talk about bringing me back to my youth! Hit and Run tactics.. get in get out! So far so good. Got most of my party up to lvl 8 now.. took on my first FOE at lvl 6 and got my ass handed to me but somehow killed it with two characters still standing..

The bard class can be useful, I just need to get him a good bow so I can put his ass in the back. As of now he is going toe to toe with the baddies and is dying way to many times (he is still lvl 7 because of it) but I am going to stick with him as you lvl up his songs they get quite helpful.. at least at this stage of the game

I have to be missing a hidden passage in B3F. I have found the one that is a shortcut to the take node, could someone spoiler where the hidden passage that takes you to the stairs down is?

This may be a bit of a dense question, but do party members gain experience even if they aren't part of you main group?
Don't think so. Ones that fall in battle don't

Hmm, maybe I just swapped out that character with an un-used skill point, something I don't normally do. I was finally able to take on those bull things in B2F and have that floor completely mapped. Now it's time to concentrate on B3F.

I am not sure...I am not the expert like the other guys. but doesn't seem like they would allow your characters at the inn the levelup.. the retiring thing is one thing but this game stays pretty true to its old school roots

reached the second stratum

this game is hot suace, btw binding absolutely rocks makes low level battles against bosses possible.

Entering B3F you have 3 main rooms, yeah? The first is giant, and has a Stalker FOE that you'll probably need to avoid. The second (west of the first via a door) is almost as long, but much thinner, and connects to a third, similarly sized room further to the west. Another Stalker FOE wanders east and west (only) between the divide that connects the second and third rooms.

The hidden door is in the extreme south-east corner of this third room. I believe it must be triggered from the other side, but you should be able to investigate it with A and plop and icon at that spot.

I'm still having a hard time grasping how those work. I can't distinguish from what skills use Arms/Legs. The head one for spells is about the only one I understand -_- I guess the Arm one is for anything that isn't a spell? And I was also wondering how good the success rate is? I'm currently training 2 teams separately, one with a sword/drain and the other with whip/bind. I have 6 skill points saved up and have no idea what to do with them on the whip one, lol.

Head - magic spells, buffs spells, status effect spells
Arms - special attack moves
Legs - fleeing skills.

Question about item (harvest) points:

What determines what you can harvest from any given chop/take/mine spot?
1) The specific item spot in question?
2) The floor that spot is located in (meaning, are all spots of the same type on that floor identical)?
3) The stratum that spot is located in (meaning, are all spots of the same type on that stratum identical)?

The specific item spot in question. While many of the same type of harvest points on the same floor will have similar items, there MIGHT be differences depending on the floor. The way it's designed, it's definitely spot specific. There are certain items that can only be harvested from certain spots and not others.

I was afraid of that. Thanks! Time to start redoing my item point map labels to identify which I've actually harvest from, and whether or not it's identical to the others on that floor or not!

:lol :lol

Yeah, the game is really unforgiving in term of how much work it makes a dedicated player want to do. That's good though, because we've been waiting for a game like this to reappear for YEARS. :D

Damn straight.

Currently I label them as "Chop", "Take", or "Mine" on my map. Luckily, I've taken care of the ones on floors 1-3, and since there are no dupes, I don't need to revisit them.

But from 4 - 6, I'll need to take my specialists* down to plumb each point in-depth, to make sure I've extracted everything, and labeled them accordingly.

*I scrapped my old team of 5 lv1 Survivalist harvesters a few days ago and started building up a team of 6, mildly levels Survivalist specialists instead. 2 Choppers, 2 Miners, and 2 Takers. Why pairs? Because if I specialize them, I can make do with a party of 5 composed of either 3 core party members and a backrow of 1 pair of harvesters for the tougher floors, or a party of my core Protector (for defense and healing) and 2 specialist teams for the easier floors, with each specialist pair capable of harvesting 24+ of their type of material.

I had a feeling something like this might crop up. :)

I blame IOSYS for tatooing this game's name into my brain.

F O E !

Edit: Being posted before! Even with lyric translations ! :D

I got that, I just haven't found the stairs down yet. How do I get over to the rest of the map? or am I missing something?

this is my map of the floor so far http://joelseph.lighterthieves.com/b3f.jpg

You've mis-mapped the extreme southern bit. You missed a door in the empty space between the two 3x3 rooms all the way in the south. A regular door, not a hidden one. I've not encountered any set of stairs or exits behind hidden doors yet. Actually, the only hidden doors I've encountered have done nothing more than serve as shortcuts between two areas of the same floor.

Hey, so when the Hexer and Ronin blocking the door in that third chamber in B3F joi me will I be able to create my own Ronin's and Hexer's?

Spoilers mother****er do you use them???

5th stratum...

...just WOW, I didn't see that coming, nice change of palette for what limits it has, just fought the first pair of bosses there, I guess I can see how this is going to end now.

Also, the B7F quest boss just kicked my ass, it's the girl isn't it? Feels like it's almost time to reset all my skill points...

I've visited 5 shops. Not one of them has it in stock.

If you've seen any copies around, please tell me where, duckroll. Please. :(

Sorry, duckroll is too busy playing Star Ocean 3, his favorite game in the universe.

Originally I was using 5 Survivalists, but have recently narrowed it down to 2 or 3. During resource runs, I load them in a party with a medic and my two normal front fighters (Paladin and Fighter) and go leveling and gathering at the same time. Once those levels get up a bit more, I should be able to max out my inventory on a single run.

Good god, last night I had a close call. I decided to start from level one and work down to five but by towards the end of the third level my healer was just about out of TP points. I decided to push forward and see how far I could get through four before warping out and realized when it was too late that I didn't have any warp items left. The 5 floors were mapped out, but I ended up stranded on the fourth floor with little health and no magic left. I ran from just about every encounter and managed to get out with only a couple people barely alive. :lol

Local GameStop received ONE copy...

And the manager was holding it behind the counter for himself...

UNTIL I NOTICED IT!

Anyways... I'm enjoying the hell out of this game.

Only at B5F, but it's a damn fine example of a first person dungeon crawler.

I haven't had this much fun with an RPG in a while. It's wonderful to see that the good stuff isn't dead.

Are defensive and attack increasing songs stackable? Also do they last more then one round? One thing I dislike about this game is the lack of feedback.

Can someone explain to me how the Landsknecht skills Blazer, Freezer, and Shocker work exactly?

The description states: "Sword skill that follows x (e.g. fire) magic with a x (e.g. flaming) slash"

But then when I try to activate it on a group of monsters I get the message: "Waiting for the magic to infuse the strike."

Example:

Fighting party of monsters
Round 1
Landsknecht activates Blazer skill, message appears "Waiting for the magic to infuse the strike."
Alchemist activates Fire skill. Fire skill targets and activates on monster as normal.

Round 2
Landsknecht activates Blazer skill, message appears "Waiting for the magic to infuse the strike."

I am assuming this is supposed to back end an Alchemist spell? Does the Alchemist have to get the spell off first? Because I am having no luck getting this to activate.
