Etrian Odyssey Untold demo hitting NA 3DS eShop on Sept 16

By order of the Radha of Etria, explorers will be able to check out the first few dungeons of Etrian Odyssey Untold beginning on Sept. 16, 2013.

The Etrian Odyssey Untold demo for the Nintendo 3DS system will let players explore the series' new Story Mode and experience the first few dungeon levels.

Discover Etria as never before with Frederica, Arthur, Simon, Raquna and the story's protagonist, the Highlander.

I'm assuming it's the same as the Japanese demo, so did that show off the differences between story and classic mode well?
 
I'll download it even though it's guaranteed I'm going to love the full game.

Gotta preorder this and Ganon Waker tomorrow.

Demo's not really gonna change that, cause I know what to expect.

Any impressions from the Japanese version? I really liked the story in the original EO (simple as it was). I'm hoping this version keeps some of the (late-game spoilers)
moral ambiguity around whether or not exploring Lost Shinjuku and effectively committing genocide against the forest people is justified

EDIT: also, one thing I *have* heard is that the dungeon levels are all-new, so even if you've played EO1, this won't be a total rehash.
 
Playing the game right now even, it's great.

The 3D effect is also perfect, unlike the shitty depth in EO4.

I don't know how far you are in the game but is it true that the only way to get
two classes unlocked
for classic mode it to complete story mode?

I'm only at floor 6 at the moment in story mode, but I know from peeking at a a wiki that yes, that's correct. There is another thing about it though, that
you can't create them from the get-go; you can only switch another character to those classes.

There's some contest tied into the demo, so I will deffo give it a shot, even though I plan to get the physical retail version.
 
Not sure if I will play the demo, I dont want to get to the end of it just to wait 2 weeks for the full game

No, there's no pop-out.

In EO4 the 3D was extremely flat; things 2 spaces away and things 5 spaces away looked as if they were the same distance from you, but in EOU the depth is perfect. Things appear to be as far as they should be; there's nothing to fault with the games 3D implementation.
 
I still have all four Etrian Odysseys waiting for me to play. Wonder if it's worth picking up Untold to play instead of EO1, alongside EO1, or to forget about until I've actually played all of the others.

Oh yeah, are there any pre-order bonuses? I'm a sucker for Atlus pre-order bonuses. Music CD and mini-artbook. SOLD. Maybe.
 
I'll play this. Is this way better in terms of content compared to IV or is IV still superior? I may give this franchise a chance after the good IV demo and how I loved SMTIV
 
Awesome! I know I'm getting this day one, but a demo is fine by me. I can't wait for Ragelopes to murder me again.

Yeah, I know they're called Furyhorn now, but they'll always be Ragelope to me.
 
Man, EO4 was great. Screw you guys!

I'm really excited about this demo because it'll tell me if I'm all Etrian Odyssey-ed out (seriously, Atlus, 8 months after EO4?), and because it'll give me an idea of story mode vs. classic mode. I'd love to hear opinions from people who have played the jp version and which one they prefer. I'm thinking classic mode since I don't care about EO story mode, but story mode seems like the main hook of the game, so...

I don't know if having a "demo-only 3DS" is worth it, but that's just me. I mean when I went to Japan last year I was tempted to get a JP 3DS for their demos, but I couldn't justify buying a high-priced item.

Yeah this is my situation. Played the demo but never got the full game. Looking forward to trying this out. It's cool that they'll have both a story mode and an original mode.

Also wonder how many uses this will have. I think EO4's demo had like 30 so if this is like that that wouldn't be bad.
