Eurogamer gives Dungeon Keeper 1/10

I believe the time has come for government regulation of the "free to play" mobile industry. EA, along with King and Zynga, have ruined mobile gaming when it needn't be this bad. They also prove that private industry cannot be trusted with self regulation. EA certainly deserves any worst company award again.

I'm really, really fearing for both Dragon Age: Inquisition and Battlefront 3 at this point. Without the doctors at BioWare I wouldn't be surprised if the EA execs had free-reign to request the implementation of all sorts of microtransaction bullshit into Inquisition.

And while my concern for Battlefront 3 is partially because of how terribly DICE handled BF4, it's also because of how microtransaction-happy EA has been.

you should also be fearing for Titanfall

don't know why people think it's magically going to escape the EA influence.

Lol @ mass effect and bf being in this list.

Even though Derrick likes to dislike everything, there is a very particular shift in game design for both series. ME focus on the shooting side over stats and character sheets side, its multiplayer and BF resembling CoD more than its previous entries, means he's not entirely off the mark.

I just don't understand.

I just watched the NerdCubed video about this game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpdoBwezFVA)

Do people actually put money into games like these? I don't know anyone who would ever do that, but i guess lots of people are, or else these games wouldn't be made.

I cannot possibly comprehend why anyone would put any money into Dungeon Keeper and give it good reviews.

Oh, come on.That's like saying Deus Ex were desperate attempt to cash in on Half-Life's success

Also..Mass Effect camed out a year after Gears and a day after Uncharted..lol

And ME2/3 becoming much more like traditional TPS had nothing to do with those games' success right?

I understand why they reviewed it so low, but I fell sorry for the devs seems like its not fair for them.

The game actully looks and play great, it's a shame that EA pushed this kind of microtransactions.

Doubt it. Unless you think those are the first shooters that became popular. Especially since ME was selling a lot better than Uncharted.

ME3 added a freakin horde mode that was ripped straight out of Gears and the cover system was improved to look just like it. I can't understand how someone could deny the massive inspiration those games had on mass effect.

Taking inspiration from other titles isn't the same as "desperately trying to cash in on other games' successes".
Also I don't know why you include Uncharted for inspiration for Mass Effect 2-3. The only thing those series have in common is that both Naughty Dog and BioWare were getting inspired by Epic's work.

If people en masse reject f2p, the games will go away. This hasn't happened yet, so the games keep coming.

Government regulations for pay2win bideojames lmao no

No thanks to a boycott. If a game is good, I'll buy it. It doesn't matter who makes it. And I'd be stupid to not buy Battlefront 3.

Yeah, until the next game you want from them comes out. This is the case with most sane people.
This is such a shitty and myopic view to take.

EA is poison to this industry. Their size, exclusive deals and clout mean they get to write and dictate in many ways the direction some of this industry takes. You can't buy a sports title in football without the EA logo for instance. There focus on monetization through IAP and withholding content for paid downloads while prioritizing such actions above game design and doing so much more aggressively then other companies sets a horrible precedent for the industry. Supporting the company only gives them vindication in their actions and business models that are increasingly focused on gouging the customer over creating quality products.

Almost every company ea has acquired has seen the quality of their products decrease while increasing monetization elements. How anyone can support this company is beyond me.

Mass Effect 3 is a great game, anyone that says otherwise is dead wrong. And besides, there's also Mass Effect 1 and 2 which are also very good. And Dragon Age: Origins. Even if you only like the earlier games in those IP, they were also published by EA.

I've replayed it twice and seriously the only reason anyone should play it, is to play around more with the voice actor characters on your team and shepard. All of the DLC except citadel is overpriced and lackluster, and the actual game is overpriced and lackluster. Couple this with the ending which is shit even after being "fixed" to "less shit kinda", requring MP to satisfy SP requirements, terrible michael bay cinematography because BOOM AND GUNS AND INCEPTION NOISE, horrible scripting and retconning. Yeah no. It's bad and saying it's good is just lying to yourself.

Also I tried Dungeon Keeper, and I don't usually play free android games with p2w mechanics because I can't stand them. Here's basically what happens:
- you play a little tutorial, almost each and every step of the way it goes USE THE GEMS DONT BE STINGY
- you did a simple action that takes 45 seconds USE THESE GEMS
- during this tutorial you're forced into actions while a big finger points at what you need to do, some of these being at the USE GEMS button (which isn't instant, it actually takes like 3 seconds to "cast")
- the charm of dungeon keeper is there, kind of. the graphics are nice, the actual ui elements kind of need to be bigger, they don't scale properly on my note 3's 1080p screen. But only things that are NOT the main interface, but like accept/decline buttons for items. You gotta zoom in.
- after you've got this charm, you actually do an action, and the charm goes away. Oh rock? Wait four hours to dig this ONE SQUARE unless you use gems. Want to skip that? pay like 89 gems. Oh the square is gold? WAIT A DAY. want to skip? pay 250 gems.
- you get like only 5 gems per completed achievement, and 10 gems a day from logging in. as far as I can tell, there's no way to get gems for free otherwise unless you are rooted and use a cheat manager like app.

tldr: the most simplistic basic actions are hidden behind a paywall, unless you want to wait all fucking day to complete them. If you don't, expect digging out a new hole to put a building to take around a good MONTH. As soon as you try to have some fun, the game basically says "pay me, or go do something else because there's nothing else to do. Unless you pay. Which you should"

ITS NOT EVEN A FEW MINUTES, it's like ten fucking seconds.

His way of talking..what a PR bunch of bull. I can't stand these kind of persons who think there in the right but there not with this scheme. Like i said before that Golden Poo is all ready won for a third time.

Garbage. I also love his comment on how the team loves the PC game. Too bad your micro trash fest is nothing like the PC game.

I hope people keep pounding ea for this. It is the only way they will change. Perhaps the hat trick of worst company in the world will prompt them to change. Not just give us lip service that they will.

Put it this way, I spent about 30 minutes upgrading and building new stuff. I don't know about you but if I'm going to play something it's not in between phone calls at work, it's to do something I can play for 15-30 minutes on a break or lunch to soften the monotony.

I was actually able to do that, at least before i hit a brick wall. How was I able to do that? spending gems. Like, constantly. It wasn't just once in a while, to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time, it was constantly. Every action, had to use gems to complete it otherwise it meant I either waited for 4-60 minutes for an action to complete (mind you, building a level 3 storage (out of ten) said it would take 2+ hours. Or I could pay 40 gems to skip it.) and mind you while this is happening, you have one less minion. and there's what 6 minions to get? the third one costs 800 gems. What will 4 cost you? 2000? Five? Six? How much time is it going to take me to be able to expedite some sort of natural gameplay progression? How much money?

At the end, will I have this installed on my device? I'll probably keep it on for a few days, doing one action a day until I've had my fill of this (mostly wanting it to be something it clearly isn't and not being satisfied with what I got) but I think the point here is that:

Until someone speaks up, until we all speak up, they'll continue shitting down our throats.

I just hope War for the Overworld becomes a breakaway success... that would surely be the only way to send a message to EA that the traditional gameplay style is what we gamers want.

I Kickstarted it with a rather high pledge level - and will continue spreading the word about it, as the classic DK games have a huge fondness in my memories.

I love this comment

Oh look, EA dug up bullfrogs carcass, you know, after they murdered them and stole their ip's, and now they have strung the carcass up on sticks and are charging for a peek at the corpse puppet.
