Evangelion has some pretty great alert screens

Yeah, it's kind of nuts. I don't understand why the stupid remake movies are the only EVA in circulation in the West.

Really bizarre. There must be rights issues... but whoever has them is leaving money on the table not publishing them.

You know you're actually right... they're all incredibly aesthetically pleasing and the style is incredibly consistent. Never realized it before now either

It really does now that I think about it. Those scenes where the alerts pop up at NERV were always hype as fuck. You knew shit was going down.

Somebody get Anno off Godzilla so he can finish up the Eva movies.

Sweet Jesus it's an Anti-AT Field.

"PILOT'S DESTRUDO IS BEGINNING TO MANIFEST!"

Also, this part of Episode 13 is my absolute favorite when it comes to alert screens and technobabble.

Who has the rights to the original TV series and the movies now? I'm shocked these things haven't had blu-ray releases yet.

I'm lucky that I still have my Platinum version thinpak that ADV released years ago, along with the DVDs Manga Entertainment released, but it would be nice to update the collection.

Studio Khara owns the rights, but no one currently owns the rights to license it outside of Japan.

Funimation has the rights for the Rebuild movies but not for the og anime.

The show's entire aesthetic is pretty iconic. Even the typography is amazing.

And the show was so audacious in its advertising.

So immediate, so eye-catching. Roughly translates to "Wouldn't the world be better off if everyone would just die? ... Then why are you still here?"

Imagine the complaints by concerned parents a poster like this plastered all over movie theaters would receive today. And HOLY FUCK at the ads that aired in Japan before the film's release. Zero fucks given for the children - in fact, actively traumatizing the target audience

This show was insane. I'm jealous of the people who got to see the absolutely staggering tonal shift in real time week to week. That sort of bait and switch is dime a dozen in anime nowadays, but it must have been bonkers back then to walk into the theater to be greeted by Shinji doing...that...in the hospital. Anno, man...the unprecedented testicular fortitude on that man.

It's really hard to argue against Evangelion being the most stylish anime ever. Even if it's not the best or greatest or whatever.
Close, but...

...still the king.

I love shit like this. "PILOT VANISHED" is particularly dope. Just gotta imagine that one programmer staying late one night thinking "yeah my boss told me this was a stupid thing to put in and a waste of time but just like... what IF the pilot did vanish!".

Lmao that tv spot, oh Anno

Eva has some pretty great everything TBH, it's an extremely well made show (baring budgetary related issues of course)
yep.

love the show and how it influenced me creatively. I find myself thinking about it constantly because it does so many things right.

Jesus, that English dub. Eesh!

But yes, Eva was fantastic with alerts of any sort, and just in general. I love the enormous contrast between animation styles, where characters will be standing totally still like statues while screens are rapidly blinking. No movement -> rapid movement -> no movement -> rapid movement. They do this all over the place, and it's amazing. Incredibly smart way to take budgetary or time issues and use them for strong artistic purposes.

This can apply to the nonsensical BLOOD TYPE:BLUE. They could have invented some bullshit type like Z or X but no, they went with BLUE. I find their lack of fucks very charming.

If Ghost in the Shell does well, I wonder if we'll finally get that live action Eva movie.

I know there are 1000 ways it could fail. But IF they made a live action Eva that nailed it... that'd be real swell.

Surprisingly, my ideal Eva movie would be a Tarsem Singh visual acid fest + great action

As far as I remember it has something to do with the movies not being finished. As in they don't want to give out the licence for the TV anime, until all the movies are released. Which at this rate will take another 2-3 years and I'm being optimistic here. I'd love a Blu-ray of EoE, UK's release was of a pretty mediocre quality, they've made it 4:3 for some bizarre reason!

With the regularity of angel attacks and apocalypse inducing incidents, someone in-verse must have made a tidy bundle putting their graphic design skills to use.
