I've had my 32 inch Vizio for years. Love it.

I've owned one of their Galevia series since '07. Not the best image but it gets the job done.
Hmm - I'm in the Prairies and see them all the time here. Interesting.

I've bought four of their sets, though I sold two on to friends after a couple of years of ownership. Great value - they typically don't deliver the tippity top of visuals, but they're almost uniformly pretty good, especially at their price points. I wish they were still doing local-dimming LED-LCD sets, because I have no idea what I'll replace my XVT with when it comes to that.
Monkey wrench! I got to Costco and saw the model I went to get right next to a Samsung, same size 55in with a 500 dollar manufacturer discount for basically the same price!
I bought a 55 inch Samsung near Christmas time. It was a great decision.

What's with all the samsung love?
I bought a samsung le40A656 in 2009 for 1500 euros, which was supposed to be some excellent image quality mid range set that set a new standard for its price range and blablabla according to reviews.
I don't even know where to start with this piece of shit:
-3 years in the two cooling fans in the back had their bearings wear out, the tv now is as loud as a 2007 xbox360 so I almost never use it anymore.
-24p mode doesn't work since it's 24fps not 23.9xxx , the result? frameskipping and 24p judder- > GARBAGE
-input lag out the wazoo
-motion resolution is something pathetic like 600p due to poor response time.
Everything about this tv falls apart in panning scenes
-they sold 2 panels under the exact same model number, I made sure to get the samsung one but if you didn't do research you could just as easily end up with a vastly inferior sharp panel
-uneven backlighting after a few years
-tv came broken, ps3 through hdmi caused the panel to turn spaz out (black screen flicker), a very common problem on the 6 series samsung tvs, I had to have a samsung repairman come over who then replaced the entire motherboard of the TV
-frame itself is made of some kind of plastic that agressively scratches if you even try to run a microfiber cloth over it to wipe off dust.
-the speakers are useless, think some 5 watt 10 dollar pc speakers like these
I know standards for lcd tv speakers are low but jesus christ these things are unusably bad.

, I've owned some 1000 odd euro sony and philips tvs over the years and they all had speakers ranging from usable to acceptable, one Sony tv even had a genuinly good speaker system.

Using one now! Pretty good tv, no problems whatsoever.
i've always heard great things about Vizio's performance
rice ratio. Very underrated from my understanding, I would definitely give them a shot if I was looking at new TVs.
I don't have any first hand experience with them though. I've only had Sony LCDs (2 46s, a 40 and a 55), and one had the 2 HDMIs die, but was a great TV otherwise. But seeing as Sony may exit the TV business, I may have to give Vizio a fair chance (especially since Panasonic may exit as well).

I have a 52" one I got a few years ago. I've heard about the "Vizio Pop" where they go bang & die but mine has worked fine for many years. You might want to check that out. But even if there were such an issue, they probably have it under control now.

I bought one in 2006 that was awesome and still works for my uncle now. The one I got in 2009 is still amazing and never had an issue.
My parents bought one last year that died after 2 months. They attempted to fix it and then just sent a better tv.

Their high end models tend to have a lot of input lag via HDMI. Not good for games.

I bought one, it failed in two days (audio went out). Then returned it. That was 3 years ago but I have been extremely happy with my Samsung I bought then. Sad to see that Samsungs build quality is going down hill now, I hear nothing but problems about the new ones that are in my price range...

I've owned quite a few brands of TV's (I usually upgrade every other year) and each brand has their ups and downs. That being said, that set is quite a few years old. The quality has gone up...

My family has 47 and 37 inch Vizio sets. They have been great for us. We've had them for about 3-4 years roughly. No issues at all.

I was under the impression that judder wasn't solved by 24fps modes but rather that judder was a symptom of the 24fps standard in general. It just is a bigger problem at home vs the theatre because of the way the film is projected. with the result that a lot of tvs look better in 2:3 pulldown at 60hz, and the best picture comes at 120hz with heavy motion smoothing enabled and 5:5 pulldown.

Regarding the comparisons, there are high end and low end models.
I have a friend who swore up and down his samsung was the shit. He would then come over and ask why my vizio and sony tv looked better than his tv that he paid more for and was considered the current best.
This fool was using out the box settings, had horrible basement lighting except for the little bit of glare that came through a window and sat directly on his screen. With rca cables no hdmi cable and then standard ps3 settings after buying (an foolishly expensive bestbuy) hdmi cable.
I had to come over and set his ps3 settings, look up some tv settings on avsforums for some options, explain to him about hos poor the lighting in his basement was as well as either blocking that small window or moving his tv to a location to where it would not get direct sunlight on it.
After that, he was happy, extremely happy, but before that he was just buying a tv brand that people said was the best without any proof or common sense (to us) to set the settings to a proper mode for your home.
Maybe the standard settings were good enough, but I asked him, what was the lighting difference between the store showroom floor and his basement? Literally night and day not to mention the hdmi vs rca cable setup.
I've seen some great 47" Vizio tv's that look just as good as most samsungs for less price.
But at the end of the day, Samsung is a competitor or Sony and other top tier brands with high end parts. Vizio is an economy brand. Even if you can't tell the differences by the visuals you will definitely notice it by the hardware design and thickness.
If you just want a really good tv for cheap go with vizio, I don't think anyone would be dissapointed. Got money to burn? Go with samsung.
But even that is subjective, with so many models a high end vizio vs low end samsung would give vizio the edge and save you some money.

Same here. The picture is damn good for the price I paid for the set, the Smart TV apps are decent, and the 3D is surprisingly good for such a cheap TV.

I have one of those, but it has an audio problem. There's a constant noise out of nothing, and that I can't manage to remove it after trying out everything in the sound department (unless I desactivate the speakers, of course).
While the noise is not (mostly) noticiable with loud volume, it's bothering me when I'm playing a game or watching a movie and there's not a lot of audio going on.

At least on my set (E3D420VX) there's a Game Mode option that's supposed to stop extra processing to reduce lag; I've got no complaints using it for PC/consoles.

Is it a constant 60-cycle hum? I've experienced that due to a ground loop issue.

Yup. Love it.
Make sure you set the auto-brightness correct OFF so it doesn't go weird while the lighting in your room changes. The sensor can be quite sensitive.

No, it's more like the sound out of "snowy" noise pattern that you hear when there's no transmission signal in a TV.

My friend bought a 47" VIZIO in early 2011. Works great, no problems.
I saw this problem with a 2007 or 2008 model. It was a nightmare with Rock Band/Guitar Hero. My friend got a 2010 model and the input lag wasn't really noticeable.
