Ever Jam to christian rock/rap?

I used to have a newsboys album when i was a kid. It was pretty alright.

I do love classic gospel music. The ladykillers soundtrack is one of my favorite albums ever.

No; as an atheist whatever Christian rock/rap I've tried to listen to has been utterly cringe. And I mean the genres pretty specifically, not just any music with Christian themes.

If I want to listen to Christian music, I hit gospel/house/classical/chanting/soul before anything else. Plenty of religious themes/undertones there.

I was flipping through radio stations a few weeks back and stopped on a station with some upbeat pop-rock kinda stuff and thought "this is nice." I was listening for at least ten minutes before I went "Waaaaaiiiiiit a minute....."

It's much more subtle than I remember it being, the lyrics were poetic and focused more on being uplifting rather than hardcore religious it seemed. I enjoyed it and have listened to the same station on occasion since.

I'm a Christian, so naturally I do, but music is music to me so I don't give Christian acts a free pass.

My personal favorites are Red, Disciple, Thousand Foot Krutch, Underoath, Demon Hunter, and August Burns Red. I liked As I Lay Dying alot as a teenager, but ever since the Lambesis arrest it's been hard to give any of it a listen, which sucks for the rest of the band.

And of course there are plenty of Christians playing in mainstream acts that put out some good stuff. Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage and Times of Grace is open about his faith without getting too preach much lime Bono of U2. On the other hand, both of them are preachy about their political views, which I know can be a turnoff for a lot of people, but I personally don't mind too much.

For Today's first three albums are phenomenal metalcore albums and then they became incredibly generic.
August Burns Red is great and Theocracy is an incredible power metal band.

This band needs more love, seriously. About as niche of a genre to put yourself in, but it's fantastic that it even exists. Mirror of Souls is a God blessed masterpiece.

When I was a kid I went to camp through Salvation Army. The counselor liked christian rock. I remember this one song about Jesus and the devil fighting in like a boxing match that I thought was pretty cool at the time.

Grew up in an involved Christian community so Christian rock/metal was about all I listened to til I was 14.

Still love Relient K, but most other bands I just don't really care for anymore or just stopped following. The Christian message can get a little grating sometimes just because it reminds me of old times and people.

Bit of Skillet now and then. They got some good jams, though I ain't feeling their newest record. Saw em open for Slipknot this year, which was fun.

Not sure where Icon for Hire sit on this, since people go back and forth and I think internally, the band does as well, but they have some great songs.

I was really into a lot of christian rock/metalcore a couple years ago. Every now and then I like to revisit some bands for nostalgia sake. The new Norma Jean album is actually kind of a guilty pleasure right now and I still enjoy Project 86 mostly because the vocalist has a pretty interesting voice.

I'm an atheist but Sufjan Stevens' "Casimir Pulaski Day" means a lot to me. It's certainly the most beautiful expression of faith in popular music for me, becuase it fully explored how difficult and thankless it is to have faith in the first place. Especially in the face of losing someone.

Not a "Christian Rock" artist, but more a good artist who sings about his Christianity sometimes.

Sure. My go-top hip-hop artists/groups were:

DJ Maj
The Cross Movement
777
Lecrae
da T.R.U.T.H.
The Tunnel Rats
Flame
Rhema Soul
Dirt
Corey Red
Sho Baraka
New Breed
116 Clique

I'd say of all of them, at least 70% of my time was spent with Cross Movement and individual album projects from their artists. Looks like their label is still doing well.
good list

used to also listen to Mars Ill from time to time back in the day

Spoken - Through it All

Some stuff by Skillet

Some stuff by Thousand Foot Crutch

Pretty much found all of these by listening to AMV, for some reason those bands are insanely popular for those. Can't say I don't like them tho.

Neal Morse (Spock's Beard's old frontman who became born-again and went solo). I don't care for his Christian themes and lyrics at all, but the music is awesome, so I deal with it. It does get a bit weird when he performs here in Sweden and tries to do a bit of Jesus-y church service stuff and gets basically zero response from the audience, but oh well.

Came to this thread for this.

Neal Morse is so damn good, dont even care about the christian lyrics and themes, but the music is really good.

My favorite of his is Sola Scriptura

I use to listen to some Christian hardcore groups like Underoath and August Burns Red, still will jam out to a song of their's every now and then.

I'm not religious, just enjoyed their tunes.

Still listen to Anberlin every now and then, they also made one of my favorite songs.
Ah yeah, Anberlin for me too.

I also forgot I used to be really into Emery. But they kind of sound like garbage when I go back and listen to them now.

I heard a few Christian Rap songs before, but I can't remember who the artist were. If you count Take Me To Church by Hozier as Christian Rock music, then I'd say yeah.

The gospel AM station is always jamming. It's not rap or rock, but it's jamming.

Ye man. Braille is a good hiphop artist. Never really get too preachy and just talks about personal experience mostly.

If you appreciate hiphop its next to impossible to not nod your head to some of his shit.

Native Lungs is a great track.

Ah yeah, Anberlin for me too.

I also forgot I used to be really into Emery. But they kind of sound like garbage when I go back and listen to them now.

Emery is weird, used to listen a whole lot to them back in the days, but now I can't make it through more than a couple of songs.

I'm aethist but Jesus walks is one of my favorite rap songs. Kanye just seems so into it (is know rhymefest wrote it). His intensity is moving.

Also the bill and Ted version of God gave rock and roll to you is another favorite. Followed by Argent, then Kiss.

Loosely related but slipping it in since it was from a classic soul/R&B/hip-hop release, Lauryn Hill's Tell Him. Lovely.

Pity things didn't work out after that release, though I still appreciated her Unplugged session. At least we also have her Fugees contributions, including live bootlegs with original material and freestyles. It's striking how different her style and voice was from their first record in 1994 to 1996. She really came into her own during that transition.
