Ever purchased a game just to support a developer/publisher?

I do this with most indie bundles, such as the Humble Bundle; I know I won't play most of the games, but I buy them nonetheless.

I'm also probably going to buy a PS4 for this very reason, even though my PC will take up all of my gaming time. I just want to see it and Sony do well!

Persona 4: Golden, No no Kuni & Resistance 3 are the most recent examples of games I have bought new recently to support the devs.

Anarchy Reigns from Platinum Games.

As much as I love Platinum Games anyway (Bayonetta, Rising and Vanquish are godly), Anarchy Reigns is shit but at ÂŁ13 I had to get it primarily to help them out.

I did this.

I may buy killer instinct but I may never own an Xbone.

I would've done this if it weren't for the fact that it's free to play. Seriously, I said to myself, I'll buy this game without the console even. Well guess what? Meh developer + Free to Play. Awesome.
(albeit half of double helix games titles are movie based)

I bought Pandora's Tower to support OpRainfall and XSEED because it was an awesome project 1 and 2 I feel that I didn't pay enough for The Last Story (I paid $50 :O )

Same here. Props to Sega for releasing the game at mid-price. I wouldn't have bought it if it was 60€ (I love Platinum, but not THAT much).

I bought some Platinum for Warframe. Really enjoyed Dark Sector, really like Warframe, figure $20 ain't so bad. First money spent in a F2P game yet.

What?! Where's the sense in that?! Surely if you buy it you're sending the message to Nintendo that it's okay to release sub-par games. You're better not buying it, and if the publisher has enough faith in the brand to stick by it for a sequel then they had better bloody well pull their finger out and make sure it's good.

Well, I thought about that. If Wii Music was a definitive reflection of Nintendo's historic portfolio, I wouldn't have purchased it, obviously, but since I knew it wasn't and also knew that by supporting Wii Music I was helping to finance games like Mario Galaxy 2, I figured why not. Just like I'm going to buy Game & Wario...I know the game is beneath Nintendo's potential and future output, but it'll help finance the new Zelda, Mario Kart 8, and Smash Brothers.

Why did I buy Tetris 3DS and Steeldiver? Lol.

I bought Shinobi on 3DS just so Sega knew someone somewhere had an interest in this franchise. I want next-gen Hotsuma, though!

Meant to say this in my first post, but I'm honestly considering the Wii U versions of COD Ghosts and Watch_Dogs, games I'm actually interested in but the whole "blah blah Nintendo and third-parties" is influencing me to that direction.

I actually bought metal gear rising day one because my love for the franchise and platinum games even though I usually wait on price drops for predominantly single player games.

I bought the LE of Rising because PG rarely (if ever) puts out LEs.

I've done it a couple of times. Sometimes it's about supporting a game, genre or developer. It's not very dissimilar to why I re-buy classics on Virtual Console or PSN. Pretty much all my NES/SNES/PS1/... games are used copies I picked up from eBay or flea markets. I know that re-buying them online won't go to the actual developers, but I think it's important to send the signal with my wallet that I enjoyed a game. Maybe it'll help show them there is a place for those franchises or style of games.

After taking a chance on Persona 4, I bought P3F, P3P and then P4Golden. Atlus, I like Persona.

Technically just pre-ordered a console to support Sony's stance this gen...

I wanted The Last Story so I bought Xenoblade out of principle. That ended up being a really, really good decision.

A lot of third party wiiu games in the hopes that supporting my console will bring more third party games down the line so far the mission is failing lol

The THQ Humble Bundle since I knew they were going to go under soon so I put all my proceeds towards them. Then they went under ;__;

I used to do it for Square Enix, Atlus and a few other studios.

Nowadays, I've kind of stopped caring. Unless a game distinctly appeals to me and comes out during a time period where I have money to buy it, I'm probably going to skip it.

It never helps, it never changes anything. No reason to waste money - better to spend it on things you actually want. :)

Skullgirls

I paid for it to be at Evo and then the IndieGoGo before I even got the game.
And then I didn't like the game.

Yes, but not often.

Most recently I bought multiple versions of Great Big War Game (and iOS/Android strategy game) because I really like the game and wanted to support the dev.

I bought Under Siege off PSN because it was made by a Portuguese developer and Rochard because it was one of the first Unity games on PSN. They're both good games tough.

Deadly Premonition. Twice.

I rented it and completed it, then bought it on 360 because it was cool. I then bought it on PS3, and have hardly played that either.

Prope stuff. Let's Tap and Ivy the Kiwi were kind of neat games. Shame I paid far more than I would have had I waited for a few months.

Resonance of Fate.

I arrogantly laughed in the GameStop employee's face when they asked me if I would like a used copy instead of the brand-spankin-new, developer-supporting copy.

I bought Sonic All Star Racing Transformed as a thank you to Sega for saving Relic.

Turns out it was an awesome game, so it worked out alright.

Sort of ? I'd pick up games that I otherwise probably wouldn't or I'd wait longer to get from the smaller companies that have consistent track records putting out things I'd like but I don't buy things that I'd never buy.

Except Last Rebellion. I regret not checking the online buzz on that game before pre-ordering it.

Ive bought a few indie bundles that I've never played or played about 30 minutes of and left. I had no interest in them but I knew the devs did good work, even if it wasnt my cup of tea.

Every once in a while, your favorite developer will release a dud that, after considering the string of awesome games they created previously, was a fluke, and you're left in a position to decide if you should buy that game anyway or spend your money elsewhere until said developer gets its act back together.

Personally, I've done this with Nintendo and Atlus games, and will probably continue doing so just to support them while they get their shit together. In the case of Atlus, I purchased "Catherine," a game that, while not necessarily a dud, I had absolutely no interest in prior to purchasing it. I've played it anyway and sold it.

Technically, selling it at least partially defeats the purpose of buying it to support them. :P

In the case of Nintendo - God, where do I begin? - I'd have to say "Wii Music" and probably the upcoming "Game & Wario." Wii Music was a piece of shit in every figurative sense of the word. I knew it was going to be crap but I spent that bread anyway. Same with "Game & Wario" which looks like a throw-away game that should have been a free pack-in, but I'll buy it anyway.

Supporting a company when they release crap games (Nintendo no less, one of the companies least in need of support) is a terrible thing to do; you're only encouraging to make more crap.

I pretty much buy anything Double Fine does because I want to support them, and I know that the game will at least be interesting, even it turns out to be flawed. Have so far not bought any game from them that has been crap, but I do preorder their games as soon as I can just to support them.

Double Fine is one of the best role models for a developer I can think of.

Wow, was going to post exactly this. I think I currently own every single Double Fine game ever released; in the case of BrĂĽtal Legend, I own it thrice (X360, PS3 and PC). Indeed, they have a developer ethos that resonates deeply with me; all of their games have been unique in some way, and even though extremely experimental, all of them have been worth playing. They're pretty much the single one non-indie (if they're indeed non-indie) developer that deserves the most support.

Outside of this, I've thrown more money at ArenaNet than I needed, simply because I wanted to support their incredible work with Guild Wars 2.

There are other developers that pretty much are an instant buy on my part (Platinum games first and foremost) but I've never felt like I was buying any of their games to support them; it's just that I really want their games. :D

Jeff Minter, every time, sight unseen.

The guy has provided enough entertainment to me over the years that it's no problem to drop ÂŁ1.50 on his latest, even if he occasionally stumbles.

Don't think so. I love Platinum and I've even bought almost all their games used. I support myself and my wallet before these companies.

Yes. I am not a big fan of cartoony platformers, but I bought all of the Ratchet and Clank games on PS3 because I wanted to support Insomniac and their first party-like relationship with Sony. I also enjoyed playing Resistance.
