Every car from 1989 looks like shit.

You know someone's going to make this exact thread about today's cars in 2039, right?

While OP is batshit crazy for picking on VW and BMW (heck, even Audi), the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 00's were objetively shit when it came to American car design and quality.

is it bad I actually really like this one

I love it, I think it's a really nice design.

So that's the year? Ugh yeah I always noticed cars with that look were just hideously bland/boring/ugly. Glad I know the time frame now.

Fuck you Papa.Tom Selleck trump card. That's right. I played it.

Those years belong to America.
The Viper was Europeans get outta here.

Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of body and dashboard panels rattling.

The only reason people (from my generation) might like this car is because street racing was big when I was in high school and you could mod this car for cheap.

It's ugly as fuck though.
Ok, time to call the buff guys with the funny, long sleeved shirts.

I like the look of many of those cars OP. I like the third toyota you posted, I like both BMWs and how can you not like the VW Golf MKII?

I agree with you generally OP, but the '89 Prelude and Supra should be in your 'exceptions' ... those models looked good, were built as well as ANYTHING being made at the time, and handled very nicely too. Underpowered would be a valid criticism, but practically everything was then.

oh rev.

anyway you have to remember the context of the age. the cars before that also "looked like shit".

some of those cars looked sweet for the time though. Performance cars always look classic.

edit: also consider the times, what they were moving away from, trying to incorporate more angles into the design, and also generally not caring what common passenger cars looked like because consumers are necessarily idiots and won't buy anything really creative.(which is unfortunate and true.) and then the "cab forward" boom.

generally cars of the late 80s do look questionable and boxy, but I do think that the clear winner is the Ford Taurus of the 2nd half of the 90s.

AHHH

I actually liked a lot of the late 80's/early 90's cars! That Ford Mustang is hella sexy but the Honda Civic 89 hatchback will always be my personal favorite.

The car was so roomy and it fit in just about any parking spot I could find. Loved it to death when I had mine.
