Every Revolution Game IGN Knows About

now that you mentioned the logs, fucking hell some of the logs in MP2:E were so easy to miss that really piss me off in the MP there were some that appear once in the game but at least they were hard to miss. I really hope Retro tones down that shit.

The "Lore" in MP2 was actually the easiest stuff to get (Luminoth logs and the keybearer info was pretty much in plain sight), it was the Creature info that was the hardest, with some of the bosses having multiple forms to scan, I didn't mind having multiple scans for bosses, but there was sometimes no real discernable event that showed if the boss' form had changed like Dark Samus or Quadraxis. I just finished a game and I've missed one scan and I dunno what it is, and I think I'm missing 2 missle packs.

MP2E makes it much easier to figure out what you've missed, however, thanks to the fact that all scans are now organized into branching subtree categories. I know exactly which boss I missed scanning, it was the one you scan before you can ever fight it. The morph ball boss in the Sanctuary. I forget the name.

Battilion Wars on the Revolution could really rock. The GC version had so much potential, but the poor controls, hectic/uncontrollable action/AI hurt it real bad. Using the Rev controller to control aiming would be cool. Plus squad control would be easier and more mouse/RTS-like.

you must be a mind-reader :D

That is true, the scan I'm missing seems to be from something in the "Offworld" category, meaning that I may have missed a Dark Samus form or something similar.

One thing I hope Retro does address is the logging of the info, and placing the logs in proper timeline order. The Luminoth logs are actually pretty well written and good reads. I just wish they were ordered better so I could read events from begining to end. Though it still is better than Prime 1's archive by far.

Stop the metroid talk! BW online?! Cool, I liked the last game alot, just lacked a little polish - like refined controls and evening out the difficulty. A sequel would be great provided they sorted out those problems. Even with the problems, the first one was good.

how the hell will Mario be at launch if Miyamoto still doesn't know what the fuck to do with title?

Bingo. Not to mention putting DK: JB on higher priority shows Miyamoto just likes fucking around.

...okay, a bit of an exaggeration, but still.

No Mario 128 @ launch == missed opportunity^¹ººº

Don't do it, Nintendo.

They'll announce mario, they'll show mario, but it won't be ready for launch i think. I'd rather have them release mario 6 months later and make it a really good solid platformer, then a rushed game that we'll all bitch about for years to come.

We'll just have to... say it with me... WAIT FOR E3. :lol

I hope they do a Pikmin 3, as the Rev controller would be godly for that game. Looking forward to IGN's article later this week on 3rd party games.

The first games of Gamecube (Luigi´s Mansion, Pikmin, Wave Race...) where great games but they have the problem that they are short and more impopular than the Super Mario Franchise.

But Pikmin 2 was a great improvement from the first game and Luigi´s Mansion needs a sequel with more hours of play and more scenarios, it can be fun a Luigi´s Village being a parody of Resident Evil 4.

A great launch list of games could be:

-Metroid Prime 3 (Retro Studios)
-Pikmin 3 (EAD)
-SuperSmash Bros Online (HAL)
-Donkey Kong (2D Platformer by Nintendo Tokyo)
-F-Zero (Racing Game by NST)
-Luigi´s Village

All this list for the end of the year and from Nintendo, for a console that is released in the last quarter I believe that is more than sufficient.

There are far too many large IPs in there, so it would be kind of silly. I'd expect maybe Smash or Prime 3 at launch, with a new serious IP and a few quirky non-game IPs. Oh, and I'm pretty sure HAL isn't doing Smash.

That's too much, and it would leave immense dry periods for Nintendo released games. Here's what launch should look like:

-Mario 128
-Metroid Prime 3

Or

-Mario 128

Afterwards, slowly trickle in all the other games, like MP3, SSB, etc.

M'F*CKIN' fiXoRED FTW

I'm expecting at least 3 franchise games. I dont expect MP3 or SSBM to miss the launch/launch window - and i wouldn't have been expecting Mario to either, but there are definitely lots of doubters around here - which has maybe made me doubt it 10% or something small.

Couple those with Zelda TP and you have a kickass launch already. I seriously think they're going all out - you'll likely see a couple non/small games alongside these.

For once i hope they knock most of their big franchises on the head early on, for
1) An unbeatable launch
2) So they can deliver more new franchises post launch, rather than being tied down doing sequels for the systems lifes, like they were for GCN.

Revolution will launch with a major new Mario game, or Revolution is as good as dead.

Well it isn't going to launch with one. They have Smash Bros and Metroid Prime 3 and Rev enabled Zelda TP. Why would they need a Mario title as well?

Stop development Nintendo! You are doomed with your lack of Mario!

With regards to Metroid....

I just don't get how Dark Samus is Metroid Prime. Maybe it has some of the power of Metroid Prime because the phazon suit mixed with her genetics or something....but Dark Samus BEING Prime? I just don't buy it.

Metroid Prime was a normal Metroid mutated with phazon (to an extreme degree).

Dark Samus was the remnants of the Phazon Suit coming to life after being ripped from Samus by Metroid Prime. It followed Samus to Aether to coincide with the dark/light theme.

Beat Metroid Prime and MP2 with 100% pickups and you'll easily see that
Dark Samus = Metroid Prime. You'll see the eyeball in the hand shown in both games. MP became Dark Samus due to absorbing the Phazon Suit and taking that form pretty much.

I can't wait for the cooking game. I just love cooking in my normal life and getting to do it on a console, but without the reward of edible food at the end, sounds just amazing. I'm sure all the housewives are also going to love additional cooking on the Revolution. Maybe it will be like Nintendogs and there will be several versions to choose from - stressful top-restaurant head-chef, McDonalds frier grunt, housewife preparing dinner for 5 demanding dependents. I heard Nintendo also think an ironing game and nappy-changing game will be a success with the housewives, and a game simulating a day at the office will attract stressed businessmen.

Its pissing me off that we dont know if TPO will be on Rev. Why cant Nintendo come out and say wether or not they plan to release it for Rev. People have been guessing for ages and I just want fucking confirmation if it is going to be a rev title or not!

I get your point, but Nintendo has to cater for the mario's and Master Chiefs of this world. Do they want to come home from a hard day jumping down warppipes or blowing things up and have to play the video game equivalents? No way! They want to experience some of our delights - AKA Dog Training, Cooking and Nappy Changing.

Yeah, that was the 100%/100% ending, just one added cutscene. Not as cool as the one in MP, either, really.

you only needed 100% in items/weapons for that cutscene. Not logs.

There is nothing wrong with Nintendo working out the physics and gameplay of simulated cooking but for the love of god put it in a context where it is enjoyable and not representative of the reality of cooking. Fuck the idea of an ENTIRE game based around simulating a mundane household activity.

But if I'm working for Dr Demon and sent undercover to assassinate one of his enemies, then I'll enjoy using the Revmote to pretend I am a qualified chef working in their kitchens, casually chopping up some vegetables and flipping goat's testicles in the wok...because 10 seconds later I can throw the carving knife into someone's head, spray boiling cooking oil over my colleagues, use the creme-brule blowtorch to torture the target's butler into telling me the code to the safe, replace the goat's testicles with those of the target's son, and then, should I feel inclined, I can batter the target to death with a Nintendo branded mock. That's the next generation, that's the reality of high-stress cooking mixed with action-thriller plot lines.

Super Mario Sunshine was launched 10 months after launch... did that wait make it a better game?

4 years ought to be enough tome to make a great mario game.

Metroid Prime is a lousy choice for a launch game. The franchise has never had wide broad appeal, making it a launch game won't change that. Not to mention it does nothing for the JPN market.

Maybe they'll simply replace MP3 with some very Japanese-style game in Japan. Like that cooking game, and in US they won't release the cooking game at launch, but MP3 instead.

Also at launch MP3 could have a bigger effect than releasing it a year or so after the release. I personally don't want it to be so, but if the game is made more FPS than FPA, then there's a good chance that casuals will pick it up, especially if there's a good online multiplayer (like there apparently is for Hunters).

They haven't spent 4 years on the game though - Even last year a quote from Miyamoto suggested that they were still experimenting with control ideas for the next Mario.

I may be the only person on earth who ISN'T psyched about playing Mario and Zelda with the FHC. The FHC would make a cool peripheral, but basing an entire console around it is stupid. I can see myself playing the vast majority of Revolution games through the shell, provided Nintendo allows me to.

I bet all the third party games that will be discussed are multi-plat. Fucking A.

They will mention the Ubisoft FPS, the Grasshopper game, the Sonic Revolution title, the Tecmo golf game and probably some cruddy EA franchises. They might slip in the names of developers that have games in progress.

I can't recall a game in which Mario could be classified as plain. Fire Mario, Racoon Mario, Star Mario, Cape Mario, Metal Mario, etc, etc. Super Mario Bros 2 is the closest he's ever come to being described as "plain." And even then, there was Starman to save the day.

that's cuz you didn't ask exactly what I meant first, newb. j/k

When I said plain Mario, I meant a Mario that starts out as "just Mario" at the beginning of the game. Just Mario. No waterguns or vacuum cleaners or other things attached to him. I don't mind if there's a jetpack or bulldozer in the game, just as long as he has the opportunity to lose whatever he finds.

Wario ware is almost a given no? Perfect to demonstrate the revmote, it's popular and it can be developed quite quickly.

If there's no Mario at launch, I would have settled for a new Rayman game, but I doubt one is in the works. :(

I don't think Mario will be at launch. Didn't Iwata say he "hoped" Miyamoto had a new Mario for the Revolution launch? That doesn't sound like much confidence or planning to me.

-MP3
-New IP (taking full advantage of controller/Rev features)
-Nintendo racing game (F-Zero?)

If MP3 is not a launch title, there will be another FPS at launch. Ubisoft's FPS sounds like it could it be AAA material to me. Ubisoft is going full out on the next gen (GRAW, Splinter Cell, etc), and I think they'll give their Revolution title as much polish/care.

EAD is definitely working on a lot of projects right now. Nintendo has confirmed that Donkey Kong, Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime 3, and Super Smash Bros. will be products we can expect sooner than later.

What exactly will be available for launch or first year is something only Nintendo knows. We know that Nintendo would definitely like Smash Bros to be one of the titles.

Donkey kong was announced, and Im hoping it will take the character in new directions, as in non-platforming. Much like how wario's early games were derivative platformers and then they finally went and gave him his own awesome GENRE with warioware.

I'm sorry the whole
Dark Samus being Metroid Prime
just bothers me and I refuse to accept it. Why do we consider Metroid Prime such a great being anyways? It was just a stupid mutated metroid.
When you beat the first section of Prime at the end, and then you go lower to fight that blue, disappearing creature, I consider that the phazon within her, as if something 'possessed her' and mutated her.

I think maybe there is something within the phazon far greater than Dark Samus and Metroid Prime themselves.
Dark Samus perhaps carries on some of the power of Metroid Prime
but that is a characteristic of the phazon, not
prime herself
. We need to remember that Dark Samus is essentially 100% phazon.

I don't see how this list that IGN has compiled contains every Revolution title that they are aware of.

They ran a story about Tecmo's Golf game as well as the news that Square-Enix has FF Crystal Chronicles coming to the Rev as well.

Maybe their headline should've read: "Every Nintendo developed Revolution title we know of!"

I have to say, I'll be VERY suprised if Mario Revolution isn't a launch title. If Mario isn't a launch title, then I think Zelda TP being moved exclusively to Revolution for launch is VERY likely.

I realize lots of Nintendo fans bitch about new IPs and shit, but when all is said and done, we just mainly want our Marios, Zeldas and Smash Bros. If Nintendo can provide Mario at launch, the collective joy will obliterate everything else.

At the end of the article it says they'll have a 3rd party list later this week. They could have made that much clearer though... like say title the article "Every Revolution Title We Know Of Part 1 of 2".
