Everybody's Gone to the Rapture - A British Apocolypse

I am hoping for a Hitchhikers Guide reference like a bulldozer sitting in the front garden.

I will be interested on what people from other countries opinions on what there experience of a rural English village is like.

No confederate flags or guns laying about, thats for sure. ;)

When are the reviews for this game coming out? I really liked Ethan Carter, and this looks such as good

I was playing Ethan Carter last night and spent a ridiculous amount of time gawping at the wonderful visuals, and it got me wondering which game will be prettier - Ethan Carter built in Unreal Engine 4, or Rapture, built in CryEngine. Although Rapture probably had a much bigger budget so it may not be a totally fair comparison, I'm interested to see how the two compare visually.

What we need though is Threads the game.

Please no, that's too much for me to handle

Ethan Carter was extremely beautiful, definitely wondering how this one will stand out

The fact that it is rapture is interesting on its own. I am really wondering how the story will play out, and if it is longer than Ethan Carter

My friend is super hyped about this game, it looks cool but I don't really know what it's about. Visually it looks really cool though.

looks OK. how much is it?

I believe the US pre-order is for $14.99 so that works out at... sadly ÂŁ15 in the UK.

Wish they would let us pre-order it in the UK. Ethan Carter had it and pre loaded for a midnight unlock. can't see why all digital games can't do the same.

It's 20% cheaper if you pre order. So the actual price is even less than Carter, that was 19.19 hmm wonder why

Even though I wasn't really a fan of Dear Esther and not sure what to make of this, this quote really summarizes a more complex understanding of the type of storytelling that games really need but right now almost uniformly lack:

"What's happened between two characters and their marriage... is as big to them as the fact as the world is ending."

I hope they pull it off.

Just finished Dear Esther last night. That was a interesting little experience. Those caves sure are pretty for a source engine game.

So what kind of game is Everyone's gone to the Rapture these days?

I think I remember early on when they announced this game that it was almost pitched with a emphasis on replayability to get the full picture. Kind of like the Stanley Parable where each run can be pretty different depending on what you do but then at some point during development things changed.

I havent been keeping up with interviews and stuff. What structure does this game have now?

Before there used to be a time mechanic where one playthrough was equal to an hour or something, and then you'd need to play again. That's no longer there, and from the last interview I read nothing is timelocked anymore and it's probably possible to see everything in one go. But knowing them, when you "beat" the game there's probably another reason to play again.

I believe it's set in an open environment consisting of six distinct areas, and you have to find out what happened to everyone, and probably solve personal crises, maybe reconcile things Quantum Leap-style. I imagine a lot of it is going to be very abstract although I imagine there must be some kind of end goal or 'completion' state.

Everybody's gone to the Rapture [OT]: So long and thanks for all the fish.

Liking the hitchhiker's guide reference.

I'd go for:

Everybody's gone to the Rapture [OT] Is Big Brother watching us... die?
(1984 reference due to the year the game is set)

or

Everybody's gone to the Rapture [OT] Don't Panic!
(Hitchhiker's/Dad's Army)

So you just wander around in first person without any other characters? Sparkle audio logs give the story when you interact with stuff? Eh..
