Everything about the Switch's branding and packaging and marketing is on point.

At first I thought Switch could be a moderate success around N64 levels. Now I'm thinking this could be a huge success if they play their cards right. It's starting to generate some real buzz.

Now tell me if you did, or didn't hear it in your head? If the awnser is yes, they've done a stellar job on the marketing.

People can say whatever they want about other aspects of Switch marketing but the "combo" logo + sound is amazing in a marketing perspective.
I think Nintendo has done so far an ok work with Switch Marketing, like I said previously I think its a big step over WiiU but nothing special.
Still tho the moment I saw the click sound on the re reveal I thought "damn they nailed it".

Nintendo said in their fiscal call thing that they expect to ship 2M units in march.

If it stays sold out throughout march, we can probably assume 2M units sold.
Yeah I know what they say but I don't believe that they are going to sell that much at the price they are asking. It's completely overpriced. I could see them adjusting the price like they did for the 3ds.

They just don't have the content right now to back it up....Zelda is the only "STELLAR" title till the end of the year....will it be getting a titanfall 2? No..New Starfox? No...F-Zero? No....a Virtua Fighter exclusive from Sega? No..A Mass Effect? No...Anything GTA related? No...

All the hype and for what....this ain't no game-changer...

Media reception seems to be pretty bad in Germany to be honest, although that is probably more the fault of the device/price/line-up than the marketing.
After the media had a collective wank over the Vita, I find it difficult to put much stock into how much media reception truly matters in the grand scheme of things.

Agree, for casuals players the message is clear and that's why the Switch is going to do great in terms of sales (price is ok too), Also "almost" everybody with Internet access already know what The Switch is, and the feedback are really positive (Based in Youtube comments). But for the more hardcore (Neogaf) audience the information is too basic.. other than that is really great.

It's not hard to preorder in most other countries either. And that is despite the very limited launch stock situation.
Yeah you can preorder in Amazon here in Spain. But you won't get a day-1 delivery on March 3rd. It looks like they already have a second batch of consoles ordered after the initial one that sold out the same morning they made it available. IIRC, Kimishima said they would be able to launch more than the 2 million if necessary.

EDIT: It seems right now its available for delivery on launch day, but this is changing since I've been checking this out several times in these weeks. I'm not sure how Amazon is handling the preorders...

And changing the subject, the prices for the console, games and accessories in the EU are fluctuating because there are not Nintendo-impossed-prices here, and each retailer sets it's own prices. I personally hope they lower the prices on some games.

Buggy Loop ok, my bad fair enough Mario kart, splatoon 2, etc...all well and good but for me they aren't exactly titles that would make me go WOW Oh my god....there's no denying the quality of them yeah....but it doesn't say to me, forget everything else, these are the tiles to have...another mario kart iteration, another splatoon...but what about another Kid Icarus? Another Metroid, Starfox- F-Zero?

I'm not sure if German mainstream media ever gave a single fuck about Vita.

Edit:
Seriously. It's been way too long for me to remember.

Im only interested as it in a handhled to replace the vita when its time is up. Since its nintendo i have my doubts. Thing probably causes uand cramps within 3 min and a horrible battery life. I hope im wrong bc i would like a handhled that gets real games on it with two sticks. Also 3D mario

The messaging is miles and miles away better than the Wii U, so they don't have that actively crippling them

But software moves hardware. If they get the software there, they can move hardware

The branding is fantastic - nice clean logo, love the red, and the 'click' sound effect works really well. The design of the Switch itself looks nice too, big step up from the Wii U.

You're expecting all that in the first year? o_O

all i'll say is the marketing is a huge step up from wii u. maybe this thing will bomb but it won't be because "the messaging was off"

The marketing and branding has been fantastic so far, the own downer was the presentation. But in reality, only the hardcore have watched that - the rest of the world population have just seen the youtube trailers and social media offerings.

Aside from the fact that people are still arguing whether it's a home console or a handheld, sure.

Only neogaf is arguing about that. What i've seen this consept of hybrid is easy to understand to common folk. Actually I don't understand why is it so hard to understand here in gaf. People see that it is a console. Then they see 'oh you can also take it with you and play it anywhere'. And that's it. Why is it so hard to gaf?

I do wonder about other SKUs down the road.

I am very interested in a Switch XL - With larger battery, larger joycon controllers, bigger screen. They might be able to increase the footprint only a little and move towards a bezelless display to achieve 2-3 inches more screen.

With a bigger screen, they could have another SD card slot and built in Stylus for backwards compatability with older DS and 3DS games, as well as a nano sim card slot so you could go online away from wi-fi.

Question is if we will ever see things like a Switch XL or a Switch Lite and so on. We don't know yet. If there was an upgrade path so I know that I could upgrade my Switch to a Switch XL if it ever came off, and perhaps get 30-50% off on buying the XL model, that would be cool.

Because collectively , we're a bunch of idiots :D

But yeah you point is spot on. I guess it only matters to gaf from a spec perspective, in reality it doesn't matter that much.

I think the packaging of the console itself is kind of boring, by the way. The Japanese red one is way cooler! But again: for the mainstream, this clear and boring packaging is probably better.

Damn, I was convinced the red box was for everywhere, not just Japan. That's a shame, because the red box looks perfect, and I immediately associate it with Nintendo in general. Oh well, it's just a box, but still...

The Wii U's biggest problem was that most non gamers thought it was a regular Wii. Worst naming in Nintendo history.

I can't remember the last time Neogaf used Youtube views as a metric for anything outside of some Switch threads.

But I do agree that their logo treatment and boxes are dope.

Indeed. It's only good for when you buy it until the moment you've unboxed the thing. From then on, your console will look the same as it does everywhere else in the world :)

Noooope:

Nintendo needs to do whatever it takes to wipe this spazzy reality from existence.

you mean have things that can become giffable and easily shared on platforms like twitter to at least spark interest in finding out what the product is?

youre not one of those that goes - if I don't like something = it's bad - are you?

Although I do like the advertising, it's the concept of the system which convinced me to pre-order. It's so much stronger then the Wii U, and the messaging that much clearer.

Their marketing is on point and the console itself looks fantastic. I just think it's a shame they don't have more software for the thing. I think it will sell well initially but can it maintain that momentum without more early software? I feel like The switch could be a big success if they handle it properly.
