Evil doppelgängers and 'rival' characters. Who's your favourite?

SA-X from Metroide Fusion, I loved that part of the game. It was kinda scary as a kid especially the part where it's so close to you and you are so weak. I was always like "Oh fuck, please don't finde me"

Hell yeah it does.

I know i'm probably the only one, but I loved Clone Sheppard from the Citadel DLC on Mass Effect 3.
It was all the evil clones tropes in one, such a fun parody, and it made an awesome battle to my Vanguard Sheppard.
I was like : "I'm that annoying in battle?" haha

In general, the concept of 'dark clone' is overdone in videogames/pop culture. There is potential to do something interesting with it, but usually 'dark X' popping up is just a sign that the creators have run out of ideas.

One of the exceptions. Masterfully created sense of tension by Sakamoto.

The heir to the throne of the roaming Rhullo, leader of the space pirate band known across the universe as the Guyzoch, Prince Vorkken.

And Alastor, of course. For a rival character though, his moveset isn't all that similar to yours. Captain Blue's on the other hand...

Nelo Angelo- Devil May Cry

Vergil and Jeanne are awesome but they have to pay proper respects to their grandad yo.

Yo, it's Nero Angelo :p

I think he counts and nobody said it yet (edit: whoops, too late):

We meet again, Blunder-Red!

It would be this for me if it wasn't for tge framerate dripping terribly in all of his fights.

So I will just go with Jeanne instead.

Also dooplis gets an honorable mention.

When executed well, I think that rival battles create some of the strongest, most satisfying, and memorable parts of games, particularly action games.

Vergil from DMC3:

Samuel from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance:

Jeanne from Bayonetta:

Vorkken from Wonderful101:

Fiend Ryu from Ninja Gaiden Black:

Azel from God Hand:

Alastor from Viewtiful Joe:

They can be absolutely pivotal in establishing growth of a character, both strength and story-wise. My personal favorite is Vergil from DMC3 because I think he is the paradigm by which all rival battles should structure themselves- in terms of introduction, complementary moveset, story structure, level growth, encounter pacing.

Basically came here to say this.

Star Wolf trio, particularly Wolf, but the whole group in general. They're pretty dynamic and well, Wolf is the only interesting character in Star Fox

Jeanne of course, and I prefer her Bayo2 look.

Well, if it isn't the heir to the throne of the roaming Rhullo, leader of the space pirate band known across the universe as the Guyzoch, Prince Vorkken!

Sam from Metal Gear Rising is pretty hilarious too.

I always love Robert Garcia's playstyle moreso than Ryo Sakazaki

Similarly I'm more partial to Ken Masters as well

Maya Schrodinger in Wild Arms 3 is also my favorite, and I like her more than Virginia (one of the main protagonists)

ALBW spoiler:
Ravio. Him being a sympathetic coward mirrored Link's innate courage very well, and it was so funny to see

also, Dark Pit

so awesome

Since most of my initial choices are already used...

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Mecha Sonic (not metal, he's overused)

The GOAT, back when Sonic didn't suck.

King of Fighters 2002 - Kusanagi

SNK does evil characters better (even though this is a copy and not the same Kyo)
I guess this one also includes Kyo-1 and Kyo-2, their AI was unforgiving.

Worst videogame trope, I hate them all. Except maybe Wario, because at least something unique came from him afterwards.

Vize, Anita and Faina from Skies of Arcadia Legends.

Guess it's also somewhat fun if done right in RPGs. Though mostly in story context.
