EVOLUTION 2017 final Entrants numbers, comparison to 2016 entrants numbers

Sad to hear about this, though I registered for three tournaments this year! Second evo I'm going to.

Fuck yeah, Tekken rising up!!

As for the other games and their drops, sheesh. I didn't expect it to look like this, lawd.

Injustice 2 not matching MKX's debut year numbers (1162, in case you're wondering) is concerning, but at least it's an increase from MKX's 707 entrants from last year.

Taking the price into account I am not surprised numbers got down, that hurts a lot. Probably for the best since organization is going to be easier.

Yeah, last year it was $20 plus $10 per game. This year I believe it started at $65 plus $10 per game. And finals tickets were an extra $60 both years as well.

Huh. I thought it was more expensive than that. Last year's numbers are probably WHY it's so much more expensive; to make it prohibitive.

Evo becoming more expensive coupled with some of the poor management of some games I hear from last year, I can't be too surprised by the drop in some numbers.

Not to mention more than every other annual tournaments are stepping up there game. Combo Breaker, CEO, and CEOtaku are for example are only improving. Evo, personally I don't think matters as much as it used to tbh.

EDIT: Also I keep forgetting they use Mandalay Bay for the finals, shit's expensive.

Here is hoping no game gets problems, I cant remember if it was last year or 2015 where Smash 4 was kinda of a mess for multiple reasons. =(

Just wanted to point out that the percentages in the OP are completely wrong. The ones from twitter are correct.

Other tournaments are run better & offer a better attending experience. Evo is not the only show in town no more. Not the best idea going with huge price hike.

SFV's drop is huge, but also expected. It was fresh last year with a far more active players. Expect a similar drop with Tekken next year. Having said all of that, it's looking to be another damn good tournament.

I'm wondering whether the EVO team were fully anticipating this. Maybe 2016 was too much for them.

Tekken 7 bump isn't too surprising and is nice to see. I think the biggest news here is Guilty Gear. Somehow despite being one of the much more niche fighters in the lineup, they've held tremendously despite the price increase on top of being a Saturday game now.

Guilty Gear fan base is fucking dedicated and really highlight how BlazBlue has fallen to the wayside tremendously in comparison. Putting Central Fiction on Sunday is looking like one hell of a mistake. I expect Rev 2 to be back next year on the Sunday slot.

Question. What is the reason for the big SMASH dropoff?

Pricing. Keep in mind that outside of Smash-centric events the average entry numbers for Smash games in supermajors tend to hover around 800-1000, with Smash 4 usually erring it out in FGC-wide events. The Smash numbers EVO are pulling here are more closely comparable to the likes of GENESIS, The Big House and Super Smash Con which has always been the "upper end" of Smash tourney entrants. Wii U being dead has nothing to do with it imo.

Yeah, last year it was $20 plus $10 per game. This year I believe it started at $65 plus $10 per game. And finals tickets were an extra $60 both years as well.

45$ seems like a drop in the bucket when you take into account travel and lodging. I don't think it is a good explanation for the drop.

Smash 4 fiasco last year at Evo may have contributed to the decline as well. It's actually good that it decreased so that managing the tournaments will be easier to the organizers.

Marvel Infine will have the highest number of entries next year, around 4000...

...which is also the number of copies the game will sell unfortunately :3

I kid I kid.

:(

They should rename the tournament Devolution. Womp womp womp.

EVO will still be hype. Punk, Mango, make me proud.

As a spectator I think I'd rather watch this kind of tournament compared to last year's. Endless pool play with mostly known outcomes isn't terribly exciting. Those SFV numbers still mean there's room for upsets though, so it's not just the usual suspects.

Nothing to see here. Price is way more expensive than last year + Tekken 7 just released and people prefer play offline on this one for obvious reasons.
