Evolve has now won top awards at both E3 and Gamescom

Evolve might very well be a quality game. In fact I think it's likely. That said these awards amount to nothing. It's not the final software. Only a select group is allowed to play the game. The part of the game that is played is tightly controlled and there is a representative there all the time to hold your hand if you miss even the smallest detail of the game.

Gamescom awards are a whole another kind of fiasco on top if this of course.

And despite all that, these are my feelings toward Evolve...

I just cannot for the life of me muster up any enthusiasm over the game. It reminds me of last year around this time when everyone in the press was losing their shit over Titanfall like it was the second coming. And then it came out and it was merely good to very good, but not essential.

Played this game 6 times at GamesCom , this will be one of the biggest games for me next year
All of our matches were so fucking awesome , even with people that usually don´t play shooters

I was in the alpha and I'd love to answer this, but I'm not sure I recall exactly what the nature of the NDA was. I know we were allowed to say we're in the alpha, just not "be specific". Am I allowed to, however, give general, unspecific impressions of the game?

You could have just said " I played it and it was fun/meh" and no one would have known if you even signed one since it's been publicly available at least 3x this year.

Pretend you were at Gamescom. I mean... you were there...

A lot of these opinions should be prefaced with "I don't like any shooters", It's like me going into a JRPG thread and saying it looks boring. Evolve looks like a great take on VS co-op gameplay and is hopefully going to be the next big co-op shooter like L4D was.

I also don't get the hype surrounding it. It feels more like something that is forced upon us by the media outlets rather than actual excitement from the gamers.

The game itself looks like a solid l4d type of game but nothing evolutionary or "hype worthy".

Sadly, majority of players cannot try out this game because beta will be only on Xbox One.

I think it will hurt this game a lot.

I'm pretty sure there's a beta on PC (if you live in NA).

I don't think the fact that PS4 has no beta of this game will hurt the game. Definitely not a lot.

I always thought Evolve looked good. I don't know if it looks "upgrade my PC" good and it definitely doesn't look "support a console paywall" good... so hopefully my PC can handle it.

After playing it, I really don't see why this game is getting so much hype. It's fun sometimes, but it's certainly not the best thing we've seen. I don't even think this game will have a big enough community after the initial month to justify ever buying it.
My thoughts after playing the alpha

The new is here.

However, Gamescom has one award where the public gets to decide: the Most Wanted Consumer Award, which, this year, went to Super Smash Bros on Nintendo's Wii U console. It will be released in November.

Was it confirmed?

Saw every video of gameplay about this and i still dont feel anything special about it. Maybe the Beta on X1 can change that.

I see nothing special about this game.

Even in the previews I've watched the main concept went from slightly intriguing to boring in a matter of minutes.

But that's just me.

That is not fair.

In my case I've played and love a lot of shooters. I've got Destiny pre-ordered at the moment.

Evolve just doesn't seem to do anything worthy of note for my tastes.

Put me in the skeptics group. Still don't see what's so special about this game, and I'm pretty sure I've seen all the gameplay videos and preview write-ups.

Suprised and pleased as most of what I happened to read (unlucky sampling by me I guess) in the gaming press seemed to be "Meh".

Looking forward to reading more now.

Evolve is such a strange title. I've never heard bad things about it at all, yet there seems to be practically no excitement for it either.

throw me into the "I dont see what's so special" pile

I was interested when I saw the announcement, and when I saw the article, but everything since has looked worse and less interesting than before.

Maybe it's because the first video presentation I saw was that fake ass esports "get hype!' bullshit which doesn't work for a game that no one knows the mechanics of, or the intricacies of the classes and how they're supposed to all synergize.

Or maybe it was because straight from day 1 for me they were manufacturing hype and i think FPS esports is the worst thing to happen to video games.

I'll be interested to see it launch to 9/10s, "multiplayer is redefined" statements and then watch most of the player base drop off in a month but still hear it spoken of with "no it's got plenty of people!" like titanfall fans currently do

Press seem to really eat up new competitive fps up. Hope they're not as insufferable Scott this one as titan fall. So weird when press hype seems so out of whack with player hype; at least people were talking about titan fall.

I can't really stand the community and performance anxiety of competitive only games, so since it's not called Unreal Tournament 4 I'll probably give this a pass regardless.

same feeling for this as for titanfall.........would be a great game if the price tag was $29.99, but I cannot see myself paying full price for basically a multiplayer shooter. I dropped the $60 on titanfall......and played it for a couple days and then got bored. Never again will I drop that much up front on a game that basically is one mode of play with multiple maps with even more DLC to experience the full game.

I like what I see but I also have worries about the balance of the game, from how strong the hunters are, the medic and how the environment doesn't seem to have a lot of variety.

Manufactured hype and no-one plays Titanfall any more in one post.Bravo!

Seems to be the case with a lot of these posters based on where I see them posting and a quick look at their post histories.

Funny you'd use Destiny as your example as that game looks pretty damn boring in videos yet is really fun to play from what I've heard (not tried it myself). Still plan on picking it up anyway as it sounds like my type of game.

Can't take those Gamescom awards seriously, sorry. When it's pay to win and many games aren't allowed to be included then they don't count for me. In fact it has the opposite affect. Makes me very wary about said titles.

Awards should be earned not bought.

Now whether Evolve deserves them is another matter.

2K dollars at work manufacturing dat hype

Evolve will be amazing no doubt but it feels like Titanfall all over again. It'll be a fun but flawed game and everyone will shit on it for not being the greatest game ever after all these awards.

So much hate for Titanfall... for some reason it's still the most played game on my friends list. Maybe I'll tell them they should stop because they're being fooled into having fun.
