THIS MAN KNOWS SOMETHING.
Yes, it's the EA game announced last year: http://kotaku.com/5037277/ea-to-publish-new-ip-title-from-epic

Electronic Arts has signed a deal with Epic Games to publish an as-yet untitled action game.

The game will be released for PC, PS3 & Xbox 360 and be developed by Epic's People Can Fly studio, based in Poland. For those of you wondering, People Can Fly were the folks behind Painkiller.

“Epic is excited to work with EA Partners to launch our next big IP on the global stage,” said Mark Rein, vice president, Epic Games. “EA Partners gives independent developers like Epic the muscle of a global publisher like EA, along with the focus and flexibility of a smaller team committed to working with our individual needs.”

Full details after the jump
You'll notice they also trademarked the game since they're showing it off, and had to trademark the name before hand.

That little note says a lot really. The again he could be playing us all for fools. I'm thinking not.

Somewhat confused still on that Geoff's twitter because I could see where Cliff could be at both now, but he denied he is heading up this game. Maybe simply for the sake of marketing it? Or it's simply not him.

360 owners are about to start getting a dose of what PS3 owners get....

"SCEJ is proud to announce a new FF is coming from SE to the Playstation.... portable"

And now we'll start seeing:

"MS is proud to bring to the stage Kojima, who has something he's been working on now and is excited to show us". "Introducing MGS...... for the Zune HD!"

Didn't people go nuts at the MGS touch game and thought those hints meant it was 360 bound or another PS3 version?

Any one of these developers could be signing exclusive deals, but on handhelds. It's easy money to be made.

Let's just say I'll be shocked if the Zune HD doesn't have a few announcements game related from PS developers of some kind. Like maybe a SE Zune HD game or MGS for the Zune HD. I also think there will be a good 3 games announced from Kojima. One for sure on a MS platform (either 360 or Zune HD), one for the PS3, and one maybe for the PSP.

It's funny how many times I've been annoyed by incoming announcements from Sony, only to find that they are PSP games. And you can always bet that Sony will waste part of their presentation on the PSP. Now my guess is MS will start wasting 360 owners time on stage with the Zune HD. LOL

Does the PS3 have faceplates however?

Here lies the best evidence against this.

We also have a conflicting one right here: http://buttonmasher.co.nz/blog/2009/05/20/expect-epic-announcements-at-microsofts-e3-conference/

Expect Epic Announcements at Microsoft’s E3 Conference
Posted May 20th, 2009 by Brianemone

Epic in origin, and perhaps even Epic in impact. The feedback from Epic games in setting up appointments for E3 is that Epics announcements for the event will be made by Microsoft at their press conference.

Gears 2 is already out and while there is some DLC coming up for the game I would expect something of a more monumental nature than simply and expansion to what we already know about its upcoming content. The only other confirmed title that is being created by Epic is the unnamed title being worked on by People Can Fly which is being published via the EA Partners program.

So what are we left to expect, Gears of War 3 perhaps? More than likely it is something else as it seems a little too soon to announce the final in the Gears trilogy. A new shooter? Something different perhaps? Time will tell.

The Microsoft press conference is being held on Monday the 1st of June.

The meltdowns already happening in this pre E3 threads will be more entertaining than the actual E3 events. Though just one or two good shots at Sony would be fun to see, just to see the forum's sky falling over itself.

The first PS3 exclusive from epic was a huge embarrassing failure, and their games sell like crazy on the Xbox360, so I guess this rumor makes a lot of sense.

Provided, of course, that Epic absolutely despises money.

poor UTIII was baaabomba on the Xbox360 , just like what it was on PS3 .

Yeah, because Unreal Tourney III sold like crazy on the 360. You're delusional.

The reason the only crack Epic took @ PS3 bombed, was because the game sucked. Both console's audiences proved this by not buying it.

If Gears came out on PS3, it would sell like hotcakes, I'm sure. Good games sell, bad ones do not.

I doubt this EA game is going exclusive to anywhere. It´s a different project from Epic USA if it even exist.

Yes, I agree. That's what I'm saying, this rumor isn't real, because the Examiner lies on a daily basis, and people really need to stop sourcing them.

They're just as bad as GameFork.

If we want to take dodgy sites and source rumors however, we have a conflicting one right here: http://buttonmasher.co.nz/blog/2009/05/20/expect-epic-announcements-at-microsofts-e3-conference/

Of course this whole thing is ridiculous because neither of these sites have good track records.

Ok fair enough on the faceplate point since the patent was just filed on those as well. Could be two separate games. This and whatever People Can Fly are working on. Thus Epic at both shows?

Perhaps two titles as kind of suggested here;

Epic files patent for Nano.Strike game title and console faceplateMay 2nd, 2009 @ 17:01
By Stephany Nunneley

Epic applied for a game patent last week titled Nano.Strike, along with a patent for a console faceplate.

No details are give in the applications, although GameGuru suggests that this could be the psychological horror game Cliff Bleszinski was rumored to be working on back in November of last year.

Also mentioned was the undisclosed title that Painkiller developers People Can Fly are working on, which as you all know, the firm had a majority stake purchased in it by Epic back in 2007.

So it could be either one or something entirely new.
We’ve contacted Epic for comment, so be sure and check back with us

The problem is we're based this all off the Examiner. However, anyone can become an examiner.

For example, I could apply to become the Minneapolis Architecture Examiner today, and probably be accepted despite knowing absolutely nothing about architecture: http://www.examiner.com/Become_an_Examiner.html?channelID=275

All I'd have to do is read up a little bit on it to make a slightly compelling application.

I could also apply to be the official Minneapolis Sony Video Game Correspondent, and then post rumors about how Sony is pulling out of the console race.

This site is literally a platform for people to make up news on.

I know examiner is turd site no doubt about that. But outside of that we do have the People Can Fly dude in here throwing a little gasoline on the fire and Geoff K claiming some major developer at both shows plus buttonmasher dude saying Epic will be at MS's pressor. The possibility of two titles each being exclusive to separate platforms could exist.

Bah, not as exciting and attractive as PS3 losing an exclusive. The site is shit anyways. And unless it's a CliffordBee game then I'm really not interested.

OR Unreal 2k4 on PSNLIVE with

Cliffy B states in the newest OXM that he's not working on a survival horror and that he has no idea where that idea came from...

So, either he was misdirecting OR this isn't true. I'd be SHOCKED.

Edit : Well, on second thought, I guess that just because he's not working on this, doesn't mean another designer at Epic isn't.
Maybe he meant that he wasn't working on the game for 360. In either case, I hope they bring something to PS3. Gears of War was a lot of fun, but I can't say the same about UT3.

I believe all 3rd party "exclusives" these days are a 6-12 month affair. If Epic is doing some horror game I could see them going to either Sony or MS with a timed exclusivity window in exchange for some advertising deal to bolster said game's presence and hype it up.

I don't know how reputable the Examiner website is, but about the only thing of this rumor that sounds out of fantasy land is making said game perma-excluive and ignoring the 360 and PC where Epic has strong support.

Damn your edit :lol :lol :lol

Maybe it is the game you referred to originally?

Yup i would love to see it happen. Those xbots need a reason to cry bitter tears goddamnit.
Sony fans have cried much this gen. It would be fun only to see how they take it. Not that I really want any of 360's games flip flopping over to the PS3. And this only seems to matter when PS3 loses an exclusive.

:lol You guys are hysterically defensive about this. It's not a personal attack against your console of choice -- I'm just stating the facts.

Epic's exclusives on Xbox360 have sold incredibly well -- why would they abandon a surefire goldmine? (note: The wetdream desires of petty fanboys is not an appropriate answer)

And, yeah, UTIII bombed on the 360, but don't leftovers tend to underperform? How is this a surprise? We'll never know how it would have sold had they released it on the 360 first with a proper marketing push.

I think if we see anything about the People Can Fly game it would be at the EA press conference given that they are the publisher (unless of course that has changed).

The microsoft stuff I would assume to be from Epic proper.

Oh if it's just for the lulz, that's ok then :D

Personally I don't care where exclusives go but if an FPS, I prefer it to be on 360. That's just a personal preference of controller.

It was all a rumor. And in the end it might've been yet another dude who said Dead Space looked great on U3, and then another dude was like "Holy shit survival horrors on U3" and then somebody was like "what? Epic is working on a survival horror?" and the other dude was like "Yeah, people heard Cliff Blzinksy talking about it!"

I would prefer Gears 1 + 2 on a BD instead of this, but that's just me.

I'm one the biggest fans of Gears on GAF. I would approve of this. But there is no way in hell that would ever happen though :(

I don't think Epic would be abandoning a goldmine - they'd just be digging from a larger one, wouldn't they? Unless, for some reason, that 360 owners would buy fewer copies of Gears 3 if it went multi. That seems unlikely (to me, anyway).

But, do we know for certain that MS has exclusivity of Gears 3 locked up?

Um, Dead Space uses its own engine.

AMIRITE?

I think you missed the part where the ambiguity of the GOW acronym could have possibly suggested that GoW3 would appear on the 360 and GOW3 would appear on the PS3. Oh snap, I did it again.

Nice of them to try again on PS3. Last time they this experiment didn't end very well for Epic.
I don't believe this news at all, but the fail comments in this thread are funny. Please tellme how the game fared on the 360 and PC.

Well, they fucked up big time releasing it during the holidays and delaying the 360 version. I mean, the Xbox had a large Unreal Championship player base that would have likely jumped on board if it had been marketed properly.

Also it wasn't smart of Epic to talk shit about the 360 version before it was released, kind of turned off a lot of people by doing that. :lol

That went well. :/

Yeah UT3 didn't sell well (on PC or PS3 mind you) because it was time exclusive to PS3 not because it was released a month after Call of Duty 4.

Jtyettis said:
I believe so. Why would Epic be at the MS's conference next week. No reason. Unless of course Gears 3 is announced next week which ain't happening.

New Gears maps maybe.

Anyways so many rumors and so many of them will be proven wrong in 3 days.

I would have loved for the PS3 version to have done better. Bought it and loved it for quite a bit. Unfortunately I don't think after that experience, regardless of the reasons for its weak sales, Epic will be too eager to announce an exclusive that isn't being funded heavily by a platform holder.

I too think Epic will be present at Microsoft's conference for Gears 2 PC and to talk about the upcoming add-on for the 360 version.

Maybe your right but UT3 didn't sell that well on any platform.

I don't know how anyone could get excited from a horror game from Epic. or anything that needs to be atmospheric in general. Their art sucks.
I like the atmosphere of Gears. I mean, sure, I would've preferred it if the atmosphere more closely resembled, for example, the feeling of the Mad World commercial; and, yeah, admittedly, the character designs are pure shit. But the general aesthetic of the games is appealing.
