Excellent DS Lite - Original DS comparison video!

Good god. I just sent a msg to where I'm getting mine from telling that I'll pay premium price. I just must get that with me to this year's GDC trip, playing in plane.

So. Beautiful.

I wonder if it comes with a protective pouch?

Wow, Firefox don't want to know nothing about that Cabel's Blog. It just keep crashing. I'm the only one that have that problem? "Somebody, upload the vid somewhere else!!!"

Whats up with that, it displays fine here dood

I was a little disappointed he didn't pick up both at the same time and show you a comparison of thickness. (EDIT: And yeah, I'm aware there are probably several such shots on the net, but not in this video!)

Also, I can't ignore the cat sticker.

You wait till you see it in real life. Such a good redesign.

No pouch though, just wrist strap and spare stylus.

There's a great review of the DS Lite at Cabel's Blog, with an excellent DS Lite - Original DS comparison video.

Hey! You beat me to posting my own blog entry to GAF! I totally suck. :)

If anyone else wants to see any other videos, or has any questions, I'm at your service.

- How comfortable is it to play, compared to the old DS?

- What's your experience been like with battery life and recharging?

Somebody YouTube that junk. No reason for crappy wmv or mov problems any more...

Just for you, Teddman: some YouTube junk.

(Although, man, they compress the hell out of things, don't they? Get your hot hot Quicktime and watch it the way god intended on m'blog!)

This looks superb!

Is there an official release date in the US? I tried to prepurchase one just now and no U.S. sites had it for presale.

Anyone know?

Thanks,
Dap

there's no official us release date yet, but it's thought to be in may, around the release of new smb.

same... weird.

Ok that screen is more than just brighter than the old DS's. What is making the colors so vivid and vibrant on that thing as it can't just be better backlites. The images looks like print outs.

Now that it's known that the brightest setting might... kill you, I don't think the FDA will approve it without major revisions.

At which point the DS LITE might kill you.

lol, that was pretty good. This guy ain't so bad a video reviewer. Just made the wait even harder! Hurry up and announce it Nintendo

that was a great Video review. laughed my ass off.

i wasn't that interested in the DS lite till now.

it really is much different then i originally thought and the brightness levels that will kill you make it a now must have!

Heh, "Welcome in the DSL hype. Please take an number and go in the line" :)

Are the Ds-lite's dual screens the same size as the original DS? I know it is probably an optical illusion due to the smaller system framing, but the lite screens look smaller on the video -- please confirm!

(Great little review)

Great video... I think this pretty much seals the deal on me putting my original DS back in its box and not play any DS games until I can get my hands on a DS Lite. I mean, what's the point anymore? :) Tetris and Brain Age will test my patience, though.

Yep, they're the same size.

HOORAY FOR OPTICAL ILLUSIONS. ^_^

same size, and i think they look bigger. (since system is smaller and all) But yep, same dimensions and crap.

One problem with that video is that he deliberately (or maybe accidentally) makes the original DS brightness look worse than it actually is by placing it at an angle (an angle you would not view it at). The difference in brightness between the two systems, if you both normally, is small and hardly as significant as it looks.

Another problem is how f'ing annoying that guy is. I had to mute it quickly.

What the video DOES achieve is highlighting how obvious it is that DS owners got played by Nintendo, in that they likely intentionally nerfed the original system in order to release a NEW AND IMPROVED DS Lite that WE MUST BUY INSTANTLY. Me, Im skipping it. Doesnt seem necessary, especially considering Nintendo is bound to deliver another in a year or two.

Trolling fails. For God sakes the guy was fine, in fact funny. "DSLITE IS THE WINNAAHHHH"

And for the "Nintendo played us oh noes" thing, screw off. Some people wanted a DS for all the shit crazy awesome games that have come out between its release and now. Some people didn't want to wait for this. Now that it's out, you know what? The original DS is fully functional still, you don't HAVE to buy the Lite. It's just that it is a better products and better suited to what Nintendo has become this year (awesome Apple design and philosophy).

of course, nintendo could have just gotten the design right the first time and saved everyone a whole lot of trouble. but that wouldn't have been very nintendo-like.

the video kicks ass btw. I want one now.

ant, it wasnt made to be rated. Sure. But the fact is that it is misleading. In whatever purpose this comparison serves, its value is lessened by one major point (the brightness) being inaccurate, no? Also, ant, why are positive comments so many and embraced, but the moment someone mentions something negative you believe that it only exists for us to observe! Come on.

BrandNew, all well and good, but where do you actually address my criticism? Why bother replying?

What are you talking about, my whole post was addressing your criticism. You said that Nintendo sucks in making a new model, I explained why I believed otherwise.

So much bitterness here. Please go troll elsewhere. :lol

No, you gave some familiar rhetoric ("you dont HAVE to buy it"), but really avoided my principle points. Thats ok, though.

Magicpaint, trolling is something that only exists to engender replies, right? I was just speaking my mind (use of capslock does not equal bitterness) and that was enough apparently for people to get upset, but its not what I wanted. Sometimes people dont go with the grain and Ive found that such dissension (sic?) is virtually impossible for GAF to handle.

If we all agree with you next time, will you stop? What kind of discussion are you intending to have? We don't agree with you.
