One problem with that video is that he deliberately (or maybe accidentally) makes the original DS brightness look worse than it actually is by placing it at an angle (an angle you would not view it at). The difference in brightness between the two systems, if you both normally, is small and hardly as significant as it looks.

I put both systems on a level table. I used a tripod for the camera. I opened both screens to the default "angled" setting. What you see is exactly what my eye was seeing, standing directly behind both systems. What Grassy Knoll Angle are you referring to?

Part of the reason why the DS is more washed out on the right is inherently due to the DS viewing angle sucking, and the DS Lite viewing angle single-handidly killing Hitler and saving all of the Jews. The DS Lite is just as "far" from the camera as the DS, but because of the superior viewing angle, looks amazing. Isn't that just as important to demonstrate as anything else?

As I show, if you tilt the angle juuuusstttttttt right the DS looks a LITTLE better because the tiny backlight cone of joy is pointed directly at your eye -- but it's still not even remotely as good as the DS Lite. And who wants to mess with getting the angle just right?

Anyway.

(Can't do anything about the annoying, though. Bummer.)

Another problem is how f'ing annoying that guy is. I had to mute it quickly.

What the video DOES achieve is highlighting how obvious it is that DS owners got played by Nintendo, in that they likely intentionally nerfed the original system in order to release a NEW AND IMPROVED DS Lite that WE MUST BUY INSTANTLY. Me, Im skipping it. Doesnt seem necessary, especially considering Nintendo is bound to deliver another in a year or two.

Interestingly, the DS Lite seems a little bit quieter than the DS, but I haven't done much of a direct comparison yet. I'll dig more into that tonight and try to post an update tomorrow!

That's not a bad thing. My biggest complaint with the DS is actually that in terms of sound, it goes from quiet to REALLY FREAKING LOUD all in a very small portion of the volume slider. I appreciate that the system can get EVEN FRICKIN' LOUDER, but I'd rather have finer control over the low end.

it really is much different then i originally thought and the brightness levels that will kill you make it a now must have!

yeah. the video has shown a much bigger difference than i thought. the other thing that amazes me is how clear the screens are and how non-reflective they seem.
