I just got the emergency alert on my phone telling residents to stay away from the windows on 27th between 6th and 7th.

Same. We had a guy on call tonight at my company's HQ directly across the street from FIT. He finally chimed into our Slack feed letting us know he's back home. Ugh, I really hope this isn't the start of a new wave of NYC/East Coast attacks.

If I stayed 15 mnts later at work like i was scheduled. Thst could had been me!! Holy shit man. I passed through there daily. I work a block away.

I hope law enforcement releases pictures of that thing(before it was neutralized) sooner, rather than later.

Edit: Pictures of the Pressure Cooker on CNN. That thing looks sketchy as hell.

I'm going to assume this is not a reference to a past news story, because if it was, you'd be on thin ice.

Oh, don't get me wrong. It is definitely a reference to a past news story. It's hard to look at cobbled together bits and not get a funny feeling. I don't envy anyone who has to make such calls under pressure.

Damn, after these two, suspicious packages are being reported in different locations. It's kind of scary not knowing whether it's the paranoia of being cautious or actually being real.

Wife's friend on Facebook is hearing reports on their local police scanner in MN about a mall/Target store being evacuated by police.

Didn't want to start a thread for something that may be nothing, but wanted to give a head's up.

Just saw news about this and remembered your post. Seems like people were attacked there tonight as well. This is getting a bit nuts. It still could be random, but if it is related, why today and at such late hours?

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/police-respond-report-shooting-stabbing-mall-42167457

At least eight people were taken to a hospital with injuries after a stabbing attack at a Minnesota shopping mall that ended with the suspected attacker, who reportedly made references to Allah, shot dead by an off-duty police officer, authorities said.

Was on 7th and 13th or so. Had no idea there was an explosion. First day ever in New York and I'm blocks away from something like that. Glad no one was killed

They were just talking a out this on CNN, said the person was asking people if they were muslim before he went on the stabbing spree....
They were doing a form of this in that one shopping mall attack in Africa, and I always wondered, that time it was like 50 people or something more insane, why after the first ten or so people kept giving the clearly wrong answers.

Though in that case I think there were some suggestions that the attackers were not exactly adhering to the "rules of the game" as strictly as they should have been.

This is a dumb post.

So far everybody else I've talked to here in the city has been pretty nonplussed by this. You get pretty desensitized to crazy shit living here.

That second device was one block over from my office, by the way. It's a weird block to put an explosive, honestly. And one block up is a major police station.

I took a peek at the #Chelsea trend on Twitter. Big mistake.

Hillary just gave a quick press conference on her plane right now about the explosion, went well, bla bla. But the Alt-right and Trump supporters on Twitter and unhinged... more than usual.

They desperately wishing for this to be some sort of Muslim terrorist attack and even mocking Hillary for being tired in that press conference.

Amazed that no one was killed. Hope it stays that way.

Sounds pretty crazy, hopefully they disarm the cooker and investigate it

hope everyone hurt is OK. how can they say this isn't terrorism?

Terrorism has a pretty specific definition. So far, this doesn't fit that specific definition. The motive really matters in these cases, and we don't know it yet.

That said, it likely will end up being defined as that.

I work on 42nd and 8th... Time Square, Port Authority, heavy tourist area and a bunch of crazy homeless people. I always felt that area is a giant bullseye for these kind of attacks.

Not looking forward to going to work Monday...

Device and location, I guess, mean it could've been a lot worse. So grateful for small mercies. It is a strange location from what little I know of NYC.

Oh for heaven's sake, clearly a joke that targets the antagonist of the referenced news story i.e. the people that thought the clock was a bomb.

Wasn't there a failed car bombing there years ago?

Woke up and saw the news, glad to hear nobody got killed and according to Swedish news one was seriously injured, hope that person recovers.
