Extermination...? Where'd you go?

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

Hey, whatever happend to Extermination?
Why did it die?

I really enjoyed the first one - especially for how early it came out in the PS2's lifespan.
Why did we never see a sequal?

The game takes a lot of inspiration from the John Carpenter film "The Thing" in the setting, plot, and even in some of the music, which resembles Ennio Morricone's score for the film.

It was a Survivor Horror action title, first party Sony game.

Story:
The plot of Extermination focuses upon U.S. Marines Special Forces soldier Dennis Riley. Part of "Team Red Light", his squad receives a distress call from Fort Stewart, a top secret facility in Antarctica. In response, Team Red Light is sent in via parachute to investigate the facility. Dennis, along with teammate Roger Grigman, quickly find themselves in an unexpected situation: The fort has been overtaken by a strange virus that has the ability to infect and manipulate both living and nonliving material that has killed off most of the area's human population. Dennis, with the aid of old acquaintance Cindy Chen and the few survivors of his team, work together to escape becoming another casualty in the virus's wake.

I actually liked Carrier for Dreamcast too :lol
Why did all these action-based Survivor Horror games die?

I was just thinking about this game for the last few weeks and was hoping they would announce a sequel. I loved this game when it first came out(yes, even the clunky controls) thanks to the great weapon upgrade system and the pretty damn good atmosphere.

I remember this was the game that got me through the last few weeks of summer since I refused to go outside in the 95+ degree weather. Good times, good times.

Awesome game, I was actually impressed by the torch lighting back when I first saw it and those damn little worm critters creeped me out bigtime.

I almost bought it, i was really interested in it before it came out. My friend ended up getting it a while back, and near the beginning of the year when I was over at his house, we were bored at 2am so I just watched him play and beat it in a single sitting.

THIS REMINDS ME, I NEED A PRIMAL SEQUEL.

I also enjoyed it back in the day. Felt like Blue Stinger done properly (though BS was still fun in its own right).

:lol I remember that summer, it was scorching. Spent a week down at a buddies in Delaware, and when it was too hot to go outside we jammed on NBA Street and Extermination

edit:

More pics for fun. How badass was this back in the day? :lol

I liked searching for and collecting the dog tags of my fallen teamates, and the weapon custimization as well. The game had it all.

I have no idea, it was a game that was in development for a long time and when it came out no one seemed to care. It was suposed to be Resident Evil in space but if you were bitten once you got infected or something like that.

I remember buying Extermination and enjoying it. The best part was near the start of the game and your friend becomes one of the creatures.

I would have bought a sequel if they released one. Wasn't the ad for the game pretty much a scene from "The Thing"?

Well, the guy who led the project was from Capcom (Fujiwara-san who did Ghost N Goblins series) and he was at Sony at that time. Since then, he has returned to his old nest at Capcom and doing the PSP GnG titles. So doubt we'll ever see a sequel...unless Capcom makes it! ;-D

Ohhh, that's interesting.
So maybe Sony just doesn't want to make it on their own?
It's a shame, because it sold well. I guess the series is dead.

mediocre - cant stand the visuals anymore, but the shooter gameplay is ok. the story is boring btw. and the run like hell sequences are more like trial & error button pressing. :/
