Ouch...

You can now pre-order an extra dock for your Nintendo Switch for £79.99 from Amazon UK.

The listing appears to be Nintendo's official RRP for the peripheral - and it's roughly in line with the pack's US pricing ($89.99, which equates to about £70).

As previously confirmed, the extra dock will launch on 23rd June in the UK and come with an additional HDMI cable and plug

Seems so expensive for such a tiny of electronics inside...

A bit expensive for my liking. Wish you could buy a version without HDMI and power cord for cheaper just like in the US.

So can I buy a dockless switch for £200 then please.

Seriously though, even at half the price I'd still think this is overpriced.

Is there a reason no one has offered a third party version yet. I was expecting a few Kickstarters to appear after release.

I have not really kept up to date to be honest, as my original dock is still in the box.

i believe they are intended to be spares or replacement parts so probably lower production run = higher costs;

plus usbc dongles with usb ports and hdmi are like £50 anyway.

Holy shit at this pricing.

The dock is nothing but a cheap piece of plastic with a little USB-C - HDMI+USB+Power adapter inside. Nintendo is really raking in the cash with this one.

Why are they doing this? Like, it's a crappy piece of plastic.

with a built in USB-C -> 3x USB-A + HDMI hub (compareable one on amazon, ~$ 30)
that also comes with a USB-C charger (compareable one on Amazon ~$ 20, original Nintendo one $30)
that also comes with a HDMI cable. (... well, ok ... like 2 bucks?)

Is it priced at a premium? maybe.
Is it 'a crappy piece of plastic' ... nope.

People are going to say "but the usb c cable and stuff aren't cheap" but that's bullshit. You can pick up a charger port (with two USB slots!) and USB C cable off Amazon for £14, and that will charge your Switch whilst you play it. Add a HDMI for £5 and you're looking at £20 max for something brought from a retail store. Someone like Nintendo would be able to get the stuff needed for the dock for much much less when buying in bulk. It's price gouging, plain and simple.

Wouldn't surprise me if its £60-£70 in the end, Amazon tend to put Switch stuff up more expensive and drop the price closer to release

1. Because there's a proprietary chip in the dock, without it you can't bring the Switch to handshake with your TV (which is super lame).
2. It's USB-C. Great tech but young standard, high prices.
3. Because Nintendo wants your money. I'm sure they could sell this stuff for half the price, if not less.

Man, I wish I could use the dock to charge my phone and stuff. That would be neat.

Why would you buy $13 for this when you can buy it from Nintendo for $90?

BTW,those are available on Amazon.

That's pretty insane pricing, but hey, if people are willing to pay for it, I can't fault Nintendo for taking advantage of that. Sucks for the people that really want a second dock though.

you can't because of the prongs on the bottom, right? because you can just attach a USB-C extension cord to the plug inside the dock, right? - didn't people do that for some weird reason?

Considering both of mine are bent, I'd say it's a crappy piece of plastic.

Sorry, I don't see how it would come even close to 80 freaking pounds and probably 90€.

Because companies don't sell things for cost. They wouldn't make a profit if they did.

They are selling at what they believe they can get away with. If you want it to be cheaper don't buy it. If no one bites at £80 Nintendo will have to accept that they are charging too much.

Of course this is a niche product so they may only be expecting to sell a few so even a couple of bites at £80 will be enough for them.

The worst thing is that the dock simply doesn't feel premium enough for this pricing. It really does feel like a hollow plastic case with poor protection for the screen. Yeah there's the HDMI and USB hub component so it's not just a dumb hunk of plastic, but it is a hunk of plastic.

I'd really like a compact dock that's just a hockey puck style stand with the internals, easy to stick in a travel back, i.e. to take on holiday. This dock isn't really ideal for travelling considering all the extra unnecessary bulk.

I look forward to my official Switch Travel Dock for the low low price of only £99.99!!!

Joycons = £80
Dock = £80

That means of the £280 asking price of the Switch, the actual console/ tablet is only £120.

What a bargain.

It really does make you think. I'd like an extra set of Joycons and a second dock for my bedroom tv. Might as well just buy a whole new Switch considering that..

What does the dock do besides connecting the Switch to TV and providing USB slots ?

Apart from making a highly complex process extremely simple and seamless? Nothing. Just a worthless plastic board.

While we're at it, why are routers so expensive when I can just run a $5 cable from my modem to my PC?

He said without HDMI,so that's very good solution for him.
Without the HDMI cable. So, literally the exact dock Nintendo makes for charging the console and connecting to the TV without the cables included in the box.

You're posting stands, which are completely different and have no real functional overlap.
