Saw the movie. I laughed a good amount, but the audience were quiet most of the time and my group often were the only ones laughing. It kinda weirded me out. Definetly not Mike Judge's best writing, especially in the last 15 minutes of the movie it was tedious. Yeah, he's losing his magic. :( Not really any quotable's in the movie. Maybe, "I fucking HATE call waiting!" will become popular. Wait for DVD on this one. It's funny, but not Office Space levels of funny.

What I think made the movie great was all the side-characters, the grind-core guy, the gigolo, and Ben Affleck were all hilarious.

I loved Office Space, I loved Idiocracy, and I loved Extract. If you even liked those other movies you should definitely check this out.

Just like with Office Space or Idiocracy, this movie is very difficult to capture in little snippets and thus hard to promote. It ended up being very different than what I had expected from watching the trailer.

Office Space from the small business owner's perspective is a very accurate description. As the owner of a small manufacturing company, this hit very close to home. On a daily basis I deal with employees just as incompetent as those in the movie with personalities just as dysfunctional. I have a woman working for us right now who has definitely said out loud every bit of dialog spoken by the spinster line worker in this movie. Not only that, but personal injury lawyers a periodic annoyance. In some ways it feels like Mike Judge made a movie for me personally.

The main cast was all fantastic. Mila Kunis did little besides be hot and move the plot forward, but that's fine. Ben Affleck was great and the pot smoking sequence was fantastic (and I don't even smoke pot).

Like most Judge humor the best parts (especially in repeat viewings) are the sequences with the random peripheral characters. Probably my favorite character in the entire movie was Step's Pepsi drinking half-brother (if I remember the relation correctly). Another highlight was Mike Judge's cameo.

Random note- at times there seemed to be strangely inserted dialog (with no character visible speaking) to try to make jokes more obvious. I'm sort of curious if something happened along the lines of the insertion of Harrison Ford's narration into Blade Runner for the theatrical release. I could be crazy, but roughly half a dozen jokes in the movie seem to me to have been deflated by this overselling.

Definitely go see this. I'm going to try to catch it again while it's still in theaters and I will definitely buy the DVD. If you liked Office Space and Idiocracy you will enjoy this.

I saw this last night and thought it was hilarious. Loved the grindcore kid and Ben Affleck.

Also, in general, it's a very zen movie, with no real tension or conflict, which is one of those things I like about Judge. Stuff just sort of happens and it's funny but it's never oversold. I enjoy mellow little movies like that.

Eugh. After re-reading what I wrote, it kinda reads like I didn't enjoy the movie. I just had a bad theater experience . There was some kinda loud noise that sounded like someone was working inside the ventilation shafts of the theater or some shit that kept happening off and on throughout the whole damn movie. I guess everyone else in the auditorium were too distracted and annoyed by it to enjoy the movie, which would explain the lack of laughter. After the movie ended, I told one of the theater cleaners about it but he didn't know what was going on.

Tom_Cody is right. If you like Mike Judge's other works, then go ahead and see the movie.

I'm definetly going to catch this again for the home release.

What??? Damnit, if that's true then I feel robbed by that noisy auditorium I was in. Can you give some examples? The only time I can remember is when Step's half brother shouted out from the house.

I thought it was maybe a solid 7/10 but not nearly as memorable as Office Space or Idiocracy, in terms of Mike Judge movies.

It just felt like a lot of the jokes fell flat. That said, when the jokes didn't fall flat, they were pretty darn funny.

Same thing happened here. I didn't hear a single laugh outside of my group of friends.

One example I clearly remember was the joke aboout being home before 8pm. Between when Jason Bateman first mentions his problem to the time you actually see Kristen Wiig tighten the knot, there were redundant lines of dialog repeating his deadline that felt like they were there just to make sure the slow members of the audience would get the joke.

Solid 7/10 movie.

Better than that Idiocracy shit.

Idiocracy had a good premise but the execution was very hit or miss. Judge himself admits that there are scenes in that movie he just can't stand to watch because they make him cringe.

Just saw Extract on Saturday (seemed like it was the last weekend I'd have a chance to) and I definitely enjoyed it. I think I expected a lesser movie going in given that the ad's focus on the accident/Mila and don't really deal with the domestic element which I think is really the overarching plot line.

I thought that the supporting characters were great and Bateman's delivery/timing (very AD-esque) kept me amused throughout the film. It's a shame that the best elements of this film (the annoying neighbor, the brain dead gigolo, "Call Waiting" dude) didn't get highlighted in the ad campaign. Sure it might have made the viewing experience a little less "fresh" but I'm sure it would have created a lot more interest in the film.

Overall I think it was a pretty entertaining niche comedy that will serve as a pleasant surprise for a lot of people once it hits the home video market.

Will probably wait until it comes out on DVD, but damn Mila looks good in this movie.

Just saw the movie today, and really enjoyed it, but as others have mentioned I don't think it's really destined to be a classic or anything. Not quotable enough.

On a side note, the guy who played Rory (grind-core band member with that piercings and such), T.J. Miller, had a REALLY familiar voice, but I can't place what I know it from. Nothing shows up on his IMDB page that I would recognize him from.
