Well, given this was in the Kotaku article:
which was all we had to go by at the time, my statement was correct.
Yikes, Lionhead are sticking their fingers in their ears as well:

so does "coming to windows 10 pc" mean it's not available for windows 8?
I'll try it but at this point it feels this game will be DoA

Looking at the other answers by Lionhead staff in that thread, it seems that this will be another example of F2P style many people hate, not the cosmetic-only, DOTA style F2P.Yikes, Lionhead are sticking their fingers in their ears as well:

No. Youll be able to earn everything that affects gameplay.
This is not a good answer, or at least, it doesn't provide enough information.
The answer should be:
No. Things that affect gameplay can ONLY be earned via the in-game currency.
Obviously the developers need to make money, and it's probably a hard sell to convince Microsoft to take the "risk" of only selling cosmetic items, and NOT selling gameplay items, but I really feel like in the long run it would be the much wiser choice.
Hey Randomjob,
Just to clarify on this point, any item that has any gameplay impact can also be earned by just playing the game. This is super important for us, as we don't want an unfair advantage in the game for those who can pay.
Cheers,
Hohbes
I still want a beta code...
So it's worth noting that when it comes to match making, we'll be taking your equipment and skill level into account. So as you earn new and more powerful equipment, you'll be facing more challenging Villains and creatures when you play. You won't therefore be able to buy some amazing equipment, then go and trounce somenewbie Villains - you'll be facing a Villain of an equivalent equipment/skill level.
Ah so not only is it free to play, its also pay to win!

I believe it will be allowed to buy gameplay elements (not just heroes) with cash.
This will be a very tough sell with all the MOBAS out there. Also aren't hero rotations usually weekly? Apparently with this game they are like every 3 weeks. If that's true that would be the worst .

It will bomb then. Fable Legends is not anywhere near as big to force people to buy through their store.

This makes me wonder if Evolve should have tried this route? The 4 v 1 experience sounds pretty good for this model. KI and DOA5 work well this way as well.
Could have been:
-FTP Goliath and the 4 base hunters.
-3-4 additional monsters rotate in or you can buy them forever
-3-4 additional hunters in each role (medic, support, trapper, assault) rotate in or buy them forever
-Long grinding would allow you to purchase certain characters permanently (ala LoL)
-Additional skins are all paid DLC
I'd love to see Evolve get a F2P conversion.

I'd actually give it a whirl then.
It's incredibly fun and the 4vs1 element really breaks down the pvp barrier that some people have. My wife loves Evolve but has consistently hated pvp in all other action games. I'm hoping for Fable Legends to provide the same.
Who cares? It's a free upgrade.

Wasn't it reccently said that it wouldn't be a free upgrade for OEM licenses?

Was hoping this was the case. KI turned out amazing, so I won't hold the F2P aspect against it.

DoA if they actually charged for the game. F2P changes things. Numbers should be good, but retention and sustainability will be the main questions. The fact that it's a graphically impressive UE4 AAA game for free is pretty damn cool. Hopefully the presentation feels high quality. That would help a lot to battle against the F2P stigma.
I'm very, very skeptical but, as you said for free I'll give it a try (why not). It'd be awesome if it turns out awesome and one of the better Fable games. If they do it right, I'd even be willing to spend money on it (as someone who loved the original trilogy)

Lionhead Admin:
Fable really deserves better treatment. What a mismanaged waste Legends seems to be. MS should hire from devs with good rpg pedigree and give Fable fans a real Fable rpg. Such a damn shame....
