I'd be fine with the Kitase crew doing FFXV, XIII was a huge letdown to me, but FFX was not. I think after doing XIII they could address the issues people had with it and make a much better product, plus now they've had plenty of experience developing an FF title for current consoles.
Sure, that won't do much for the actual writing/storytelling but I felt FFXIII had problems way beyond that. I can stomach a stupid plot if its at least entertaining and enjoyable to see unfold, but what I cannot stomach is the linearity, the terrible, god-awful sidequests that came off as horribly conceived chores, the inability to return to areas with enemies that are more or less out of your league upon first arrival, and so on. A lot of the complaints concerning FFXIII are story/writing/voice acting focused, but even if the plot made Tolkien wallow in his grave you'd still have a messy, poorly designed game with a saving grace of a battle system.
So sure, I'd be fine with Kitase and Toriyama directing FFXV but only if they intend to make a product closer to FFX than XIII. Which, that still wouldn't be my ideal FF, but after XIII I think it will be hard to be disappointed unless they make it a first person shooter.
