i like it.

i use facebook to keep in touch with people. i could give a shit about how many people match their personality test or what their mob war status is.

this makes everything much much easier.

Huh. I like it. Nice without being overly complicated. Except where did most of my stuff go? My Gamertag, my Wii Info, none of it's on any of the tabs.

Seriously, they kept pushing the release date back for months and months and this is the best they came up with??

You can click "posts by others" to only display your wall posts, and not the feed. But it does not save this setting, and you have to do it for every profile you visit. Lame.

Wow, that was truly awful. The news-feed page was bad enough with everything randomly stretched out and loads of dead white space but clicking on my profile was like entering a dimension my eyes couldn't comprehend. There was absolutely no order to it, it was the very definition of chaos.

I can see this turning away a great number of users if they enforce this as the final update.

On the topic of UI's on sites getting rubbish, the latest DeviantArt was actually a great new UI for the site.

Ive been emailing them every single time they update, and ask for feedback, asking them to keep the "wall" and "feed" separate.

So have thousands, hundreds of others, judging from the comments on the preview page.

They didnt listen, im so close to leaving facebook.

Right now, all it would take is for a song to start playing (ala myspace), or the ability to change a background, or the ability to have any sort of animated .gif, and im out...

It looks like a fucking mess. I'm sure if they tweaked it a bit it would turn out better. They really just need to get rid of applications. I like the faster loading in-page though.

If it weren't for the fact that I use it so I can keep in touch with my overseas friends (they hate e-mails, hur hur), I'd have ditched this Facebook shit a while back. Hopefully they keep the current look, and that itself is even already looking a bit convoluted.

Hmmm

Myspace started looking like facebook, facebook starts looking like myspace.

What are you talking about? The new Facebook looks absolutely -nothing- like MySpace. Not even arguable.

On that note, the new layout is fantastic. Home page could use some work, but the profiles are almost perfect. Anyone saying it's too cluttered or it's messy is simply used to the old layout.

The new one is MUCH more streamlined and easy to navigate.

At first GLANCE, it looks like there may be too much going on, but once you actually start using it, I'd be shocked to see anyone find reasoning for liking the old layout better.

And all the apps under one tab is great. The tabs in general are great.

How the fuck can that be described as an improvement. Looks like they tried to jack the myspace design and just ended up with some cluster fuck with no coherent design scheme whatsoever. I do not approve.

Both Facebook and Last.fm, both very popular sites, but why is their UI taking steps backwards?

Can't understand this either. The new Last.fm layout is the defintion of taking steps forward. It's cleaner and more streamlined. The old layout was a messy pink piece of shit.

...

Because MySpace has photos, notes, videos, and friends on the left hand side, tabs for information and applications, mixes your updates with comments, and blocks you from using HTML.

Wait, no it doesn't. What are you talking about?

It looks NOTHING like MySpace. If I asked how it's more like MySpace now, you wouldn't be able to explain.

It actually hurts my eyes.

A combination of navy blue and white hurts your eyes? Then you should have them checked.

I like the new facebook. But I also like the old one. I usually just write on walls so this one makes it easier. I think this redisign is more of a "back to basics" as it doesnt push applications as hard as before. Im not sure how the app-happy users will react to that, and there's a lot of users out there who love them useless apps.

Combining the wall and feed is really fucking stupid though, I just cant see how someone thought of that idea and actually got it through. Its probably the only reason I'd go back to old facebook.

only thing that is terrible is the wall/feed.. everything else isnt THAT bad.. doesnt really affect me anyways since I only use the iphone facebook site/app.

omg rite is right.

A lot of the rest of you are closet conservatives about interface designs.

I'm just coming in here to say I think the new design looks really nice. The wall feels a bit cluttered, maybe they could clean it up a bit, but I think overall the design is way better than the old one. You're all losers.

As new versions go, this seems more of a spit and polish than a whole new look. At least it uses screenspace better.

So now all the stuff on your profile page is on 4 tabs instead of one fucking page. This is ridiculous.

It's like they're trying to drive people away. Myspace had a better layout already [customization wise], now MS just rapes them.

Yep.

I can see what they're trying to do here. As someone who never had that many apps in the first place, though, I don't really need this to be done.

The de-stupid-fication of the internet is so blatant piss poor and annoying, I can't stand it. First they try to make Myspace look like Facebook, then they made last.fm look like Facebook, now they're making Facebook look like Myspace, but without any of the features that make it Myspace (bulletins, customization). So lame.

Gotta admit, I do like the new functionality on Last.fm, and it's not really that the UI has gotten worse, but moreso that it really hasn't improved. It was a cluttered mess before, and it's a cluttered mess now.

I *still* have no idea how I delete artists from my charts on Last.fm. I had just assumed the feature had been removed.

WTF I clicked link now I can't go back to old facebook style!

How do I change it back to old way it use to look?

Might as well keep it as it is and get used to it. In a few weeks, you'll be forced to use it.

You can... do that?

At the very top right theres a button "Back to the old Facebook"

But, as has been said already, youll be forced into this soon anyway unfortunately.

From the bitching thread re: Last.fm's bad redesign:

The live chart updates and ability to delete artists and tracks from your profile is pretty nice. It's bit hard to fully judge the update with the site being so slow right now though.

They used to have this functionality before, maybe like a year or two ago, but they removed it during the last terrible UI update. I guess it's back, but the UI is still so terrible that the feature is difficult to find. I've done some googling, and it appears such deletions are definitely back, but Last.fm's support is so incomplete that it does not indicate how to do so, nor is such a simple feature readily apparent in the UI. This, among other reasons, is why the UI is bad.

I've gotten used to last.fm; it's too busy, but it's not necessarily worse than before.

Facebook, on the other hand, is some bullshit. This is really fucked up.

So how the fuck do you delete shit from last.fm? I've been stuck looking like a Ryan Adams fan for like a whoel goddamned year because of one night of drunken repeating.

It used to be, at least in the beta, that I could go to the library page and arrow over the top-right corner of the artist picture and there'd be an X icon allowing me to delete that artist. I don't know what the fuck happened to that though. Maybe they're still ironing some stuff out?

Er, I gotta say, gonna have to put the blame on you and not the UI for this one.

- Go to your profile.

- Click library on the left.

- When you hover over an artist's name or picture, an X appears in the upper right of their picture.

- Click the X.

Took me less than a minute to find. :lol
