Fake consoles

The Wireless 60, the all new console! Fuck Wii, we got an even better console, pushing better graphix. Obviously trying to bank in on the Wii's success, by tricking parents into buying this garbage.

Shit looks sweet, better buy two just in case my kid breaks the first because of how awesome it is!

Lets share other consoles trying to bank on the success of others, or attempting to trick parents/kids.

The Phantom. Tricked 14 year old me into believing I could partake in glorious PC gaming at an affordable price.

Now I think about it, could this be some thing close to OnLive?

Ya, that is the one I remember the most. I remember the talks about it having all exclusives on it and being the "independent" platform. Now no one is completely sure it was ever a thing.

I'll never forget the PolyStation, so many broken promises and crushed dreams.

And its partner:

80% of the games didn't work
5% did work
15% was the 5% games with different colors and names.

A store I used to work at sold "SUNY DreamStation" iv never been able to find one since. It was basically a NES guts with a black vacuum formed shell that looked like a cheap DVD player. It had a disc drive but as far as i could tell it would only play CD's

Some horrible 90's PC gamepad and 12 preloaded titles that i had never seen. Some sonic clone was shown on the box.

The kicker was it said on box "plays all your favorite games from x box PS and game boy.

A surprising number of people bought it. It was something like ÂŁ40. Mostly old clueless grandparents.

I can't imagine what it would be like to open that up on Xmas.

Edit: now i think about it the name might be slightly wrong but im sure it had dream and station in it.

I remember one from a German commercial* that had a controller that looked like one for N64 (I think) and came preloaded with tons of (shitty) games. I wish I could find that one, I'd probably get it. Too bad I don't even remember the name.

I think it was one of the TeleShop commercials.

Years ago I used to see stalls around towns selling those kind of things, like an n64 shaped controller with NES games in it, no idea how they got away with it.

That thing was hyped to hell and back. Every month in nearly every gaming mag, there was some sort of advertisement or an article about it.

I think this is the one my friend got in a Secret Santa gift trade. If not this one, one that looked very similar. It had the standard "40+ games pre-installed!" and we played it for an hour or so just for the novelty of it.

We couldn't figure out if the controllers or the games were broken though (maybe both). Most of the inputs had no effect, and you could almost never win anything.

EDIT:

I was wrong.

IT WAS THIS ONE!

I never understood who thought that it was a good idea to put the ethernet port on the front of the Phantom. How the hell would that look under the TV? It looks stupid.

my first system was little master gaming system.

Had 250 games in one.

had

karate ka
lode runer
arabian
mario
burger time
bubble bobble and countless other games in one cratige. It was awesome.

The company Phantom Entertainment Inc Previously Infinium Labs has 3 employees and now make hybrid keyboard mouse mats for comfy couch gaming.

I remember being on the official forums years ago and reading hundreds of posts by angry shareholders and investors asking WTF was going on and when would they see anything from the money they put into the company.

The company has been in virtually constant legal trouble due to the malpractice exhibited and have wasted somewhere close to $100 million.

Mine was a NES rip-off with 32 games in one cart. It had Adventure Island, Ice Climbers, Tank game, Tetris, some Mario variants and a bunch of other stuff I dont remember anymore.

I loved it lol

I wonder how much it weighs. It's probably mostly empty inside lol.

^Really? It looks like an ethernet cable.

Ok on closer inspection it doesn't look like an ethernet cable at all. it still looks kinda stupid though. *shrug*

My country had a COLLECTION of famiclones, with this one - Phantom System - being the most famous

I hear ya, but at least this one was done by a reputable company - and not some random dude in a garage em Guangzhou.
