If I have a kid I'd want it to be a daughter. I like my niece more than my nephew atm haha

Me too. :) I want daughters rn!!!

I only have nieces but I can't imagine giving a shit about a nephew. My friend had some 11 year old son or something and he just kept ramming into me and laughing. Gross little fucker.

while I agree with the statement that most boys are disgusting I also have a little bro who is the sweetest kid ever. so that does happen too. y'all just need to raise 'em right, folks!

I'm just kidding around and I've being honest I think girls can be fairly disgusting too!

Also, having a little girl is great, but wait until she hits her teens. You'll soon regret it. I know I'm not looking forward to it. Her tantrums at 6 are bad enough. I imagine it will be that multiplied by infinity when she hits 13. Ugh.

My nieces are 10 and 8 and they really don't throw tantrums or cause problems. For the most part they're incredibly easy.

That's the weird thing about having a kid... Roll of the dice when it comes to their disposition.

They all poop, pee, and vomit the same you know. A boy might be harder to control, but that is more based on making gender roles real than what you would get if you took the effort to treat them the same. Verbally in particular. People tend to be less patient with guys / boys as well, because apparently being lost and on your own is a masculine norm. I I wish I had a Fatman in my pocket for all the times I've been told to "man up" just because I'm a guy. I don't consider myself with the wrong gender, but goddammit do I hate all the implicit stuff that comes with up. For both sexes btw. Or at least the heteronormative ones. I can obviously not speak for anyone outside of that 'box'. All I know about that is that it's no fun, particularly when people know about it.

As someone who's taught middle school and high school I can tell you that girls are much more likely to verbally roast you. Or anybody. I realize that sounds kind of sexist but it's been my personal experience

Gender roles are fucking bullshit and I hate them.

I'm not manly. I don't want to be fucking manly. Rargh.

A vacant seeming parking garage at night looks very different to a woman than it does to a man, right?

Actually I was talking about social anxiety :P

I live in the country still so I don't encounter many parking garages or back alleys. I only spend maybe 10 minutes a day outside away from people I know

it reminds me of the Louis CK joke where a guy will just physically beat the shit out of you but a girl will emotionally torment you if she doesn't like you.

been my experience lol

Oh you specified physical size or whatever, confused me. :)

This is totally how I survived growing up with my siblings. They beat up on each other all the time but never at me, because I knew that I could savagely rip into them with my words. Honestly, it was kind of lonely at the top of the food chain.

I'm surprised by how common social anxiety seems to be -- at least on neogaf. I guess I have experienced it to a degree but it's not a defining aspect of my character. There seem to be far better things to be anxious about, like whether one of my hands is cleaner than the other.

it's really scary!

in middle school i got into a few fights (which i didn't start, people just picked on me), and sometimes when I walked home I would get jumped by some kids since I lived really really close to a welfare housing neighborhood.

but man, never do I ever want to get on a bad side of a girl again. NOT WORTH IT!

Easier to talk on forums. You can just hang around posting inane shit and bailing whenever you feel like.

That said I do quite often write out posts and then think "No that's dumb and people will think I'm dumb" and back out

No girl is going to pick me apart and come away unscathed. I'll give it right back. I can find peoples' insecurities. I don't wish to, though, I don't enjoy causing lasting harm unless the person reaaallly has it coming.

Online communication is a romance killer :P I hate how the rules behind communication have changed during the past 15 years or so.

You're telling me.

my social anxiety is sorta different. I don't really dislike social situations and am actually really good at small talk and speeches and other things most people with social anxiety have. I just short circuit in unfamiliar situations and work better with someone else carrying the conversation so I can ease my way in and eventually do a ton of talking.

like at first I don't have an idea of how i should act towards someone or something till i get a decent idea of how they are.

That makes sense. I can probably relate to that.

I get preoccupied with dumb shit. Not always germs but a lot of times it's germs. Ever see The Aviator? I related to that movie. Not that I'm anywhere near as troubled as he was in the film, but I know what it's like to be preoccupied with something seeming germy. I also relate to the dinner table scene where everyone's talking and making noises and it can seem a bit unnerving.

I also do the "phrase stuck in my head" thing. I don't lose control like Howard does, but there are definitely times when I or someone else says some random phrase and for whatever reason I kinda get triggered and just keep obsessing over the phrase, running it over in my head repeatedly. If no one's around I'll say it softly under my breath.

Typing this out makes me realize I might sound crazy. :)

My sibling is so much older than me we basically grew up as only children.

I wish we grew up together D:

I have three siblings. We're three boys and a girl. I'm the second youngest.

That may sound stupid, but it's a thing I've had since I was a small child.

We're all crazy. Don't worry about it.

Thanks, and you took the words out of my mouth about gender roles. I remember venting about this in the past. Society's idea of what "masculine" is supposed to mean is destructive.

I like pink, and, in fact, I just bought pink converse shoes not long ago.

Honestly how a guy reacts to you seems to depend on your gender.

In middle school my guy "friends" would emotionally torment me. But they would never try to beat me up. (Although I think the lesson there is don't be an ugly girl and be friends with guys in middle school. They're not very happy that the only girl who will pay attention to them is ugly.)

Meanwhile I've only gotten into real physical fights with other girls. Although I have also verbally roasted more than I've punched.

pink is a traditionally male color :P

You're going to need to substantiate that. In my lifetime it's been relatively uncommon to see boys or men wearing pink (obviously it's not unheard of, just less common) and quite common for girls to wear it.

Before World War II it was the color for boys. Meanwhile girls wore blue.

She's talking about a hundred years ago and more. Anything reddish was the color of blood and war, whereas blue was clean and beautiful. Now, yeah, pink is more feminine.

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/when-did-girls-start-wearing-pink-1370097/?no-ist

For example, a June 1918 article from the trade publication Earnshaw's Infants' Department said, “The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.

In 1927, Time magazine printed a chart showing sex-appropriate colors for girls and boys according to leading U.S. stores. In Boston, Filene’s told parents to dress boys in pink. So did Best & Co. in New York City, Halle’s in Cleveland and Marshall Field in Chicago.

Well, ancient history, sure. :) Fact is I'm being rebellious in the here and now with my tubular color choices.

Just another example of women co-opting our culture for themselves.

Monica is cruel

Some Friends stuff is kind of dated. If I recall, it fairly regularly featured mildly homophobic humor.

It was also weird rewatching The Daily Show episodes from a decade and more ago. They used to say "retarded" constantly.

omg i was seriously gonna post I have 1 salmon colored shirt before I saw that

Put aside that salmon bullshit and embrace the

In the game I'm making, anything related to "ghost energy" (for lack of a better term) that represents the main character is signified by shades of pink/purple.

The article doesn't say it was traditionally a masculine colour, just that in America in the early 20th century it was thought to be a masculine colour, which is not quite the same thing.

that's a little bit too much saturation for me. I usually do end up wearing more darker or faded colors.

but for some of my design work I aint afraid to go color crazy, i really like saturated deep pinks

apparently my computer which was supposed to get here in 3-7 days is getting here in less than 2. glad I didn't pay for faster shipping

I like to have small saturated elements going against everything else being subdued. For example, grey jeans, a grey shirt, and hot pink converse shoes. Maybe I'd also choose a shirt that has a hot pink element on it to go with the shoes, but I don't typically wear graphic Ts.

I've also occasionally color coordinated the small red edges on a pair of glasses I own with red shoes. Stuff like that.
