Macross/DYRL: 2012
Macross Plus: 2040
Macross 7: 2045

I'm at episode 12 now and it's sooooort of getting better.

If you haven't watched DYRL or Macross Plus yet, I'd do that before going into 7. There are a bunch of references to DYRL and Plus is chronologically before it (it's also awesome).
I've seen both. Just didn't think it could've been the same Max because he clearly didn't look like he had another 30 years on him.

I really didn't want to watch any more of Macross 7 after that first episode, but now I guess I'm stuck.

Edit: I'm never going to be able to recognize Jex now. :(

The first 10 episodes are pretty unbearable. :lol

You've already completes it's product and fan cycle. There's practically no need to make it.

Wow, fab avatar.

And yeah... that's true. :lol
It'd still be nice to see it anyway, even if I know exactly how it would happen.

So, is there any good anime this season? No? No...

I want Star Driver to be awesome, as I love Bones, but the trailer pretty much said "Don't watch this. This is incredibly stupid, and unless you're a complete idiot, you will hate this."

The whole "I get highlights when I'm in my Mech" thing was dumb enough, but pretty much everything I've seen has been painfully stereotypical or horrifically silly.

I want to love it, but the trailer basically said "skip".

Panty & Stocking, Star driver & Kuragehime have the best chances of being good. If they don't end up good this season is a failure and we haft to end up watching old shows like last season.:lol

Can't wait to revisit Blue Gender!

Sengok--oh, you mean Fall.

I wanted to mention Panty & Stockings, but if you found Star Driver's trailer ridiculous you probably think the same way of P & S as well. Yakumo kind of looks interesting, but it's a Bee Train show so it'll probably suck. No idea how you feel about stuff like Kuragehime, TWGOK, or OreImo.

It was either that, or glorious Maison Ikkoku avatars but someone is already ahead of that game...

Man, Yuzuya's school is terrible. Girl gets bullied and no one gives a shit and twice now she's just up and walked away from the grounds without any adults noticing. I'd sue these people for negligence.

Told ya.

Like I said, irresponsible adults is a theme in this show.

Light speed chunks of Ice.

This is some One Piece levels of wtf.

:lol

Preview clip for Rurouni Kenshin.

"Look forward to it, please".

This show is so fucking good. I have reached and gone past the point of emotional identification. I cringe when Kaoru is endangered.

Kurenai's musical episode was fantastic.
It really was.

Digging back in the anime archives, I watched a few episodes of Kure-nai because I liked Aishiteruze Baby, the premise of which is simply that an older boy has to watch over a younger girl. Both certainly work the same way, insomuch as Shinkuro and Murasaki learn to grow through their interactions with each other. Certainly you could probably just make a show about an older sibling taking care of a younger sibling, but I guess that's too boring for anime. :lol

Funny enough, some of the pacing and just the way the cast interacted with each other reminded me of Kannagi, which is probably why I liked the main segment of the show in spite of the family drama that frames the narrative.

I just wanna say that I generally love how they handled the dialog in the anime, I think almost every interaction with the apartment complex neighbors was gold. They could have taken out the incestuous family and violence and just made it everyone looking after Murasaki and it would have been just as good, maybe better.

I'm not going to try and make sense of idiocy (rather, to cast a bigger magnifying glass on said idiocy), but... if Maya's father could make a Notebook of Invicibility, he could probably make a Room That Withstands Changes In The Space-Time Continuum. Because Maya's father
is in that room in the future
.
Is he, I don't really feel like going back and confirming that but it'd explain why they're even looking for Nostradamus' key, I didn't think a real military or whatnot would ever do such a mission.

I'm betting the aliens and the key are completely unrelated and the whole mission was just to save his daughter if he's in on the time travel.

One complaint I actually wouldn't level against the show. It'll just be one episode and it was a natural progression of what had been occurring the whole time.
Making curry for him was going to lose it's effect sooner or later. The White Mage reveal was nuts, lol, looked ripped right out of a classic Final Fantasy game.

I'm pretty sure Index was written by an actual highschooler.
Lies, I bet Setokai Yakuindomo's written by whatever's a step below a high schooler!

Also, I approve of the Spice and Wolf appreciation, got my DVDs of season one and both English novels they've released, love the franchise. Hope some of the stuff in the novels they skipped gets animated! I wanna see more Horo but not any of that aerobics shit please.

I do like this snippet from Wikipedia.
Go Nagai pretty much came up with his first breakout work just out of school. And it's pretty clear that's the case too.

Then again, that seems to be the case of every work Go Nagai has ever made. Which isn't a bad thing at all.

Whew that's good. Because i couldn't imagine you with a avatar of a female character.

trejo said:
Oh shit, Yuzu's jealous of Kokoro so Keppei broke it off.

Why am I liking this so much?
It's a nice little "single dad brings home new mom" moment. :lol

If the books were meant to be an allegorical indictment of conservative Japanese society, I suppose it works. Murasaki's "adopted" family is much better than her "real" family. It's just that the anime never really goes into that territory.

Why does this even matter? :lol
I just finished the Warehouse 13 finale and the plot made no sense whatsoever, but I love the interaction between the two leads... so, I just let it go!

Aishiteruze Baby 12.

The animation in this episode looks like it was outsourced to actual kindergartners. :lol

Edit: Oh shit deadbeat mom comes back next episode?!

The entire show has very crude animation, even by anime standards.

It'd be nice if someone could remake it, give it the Kimi ni Todoke treatment and a real ending.

Aishiteruze Baby: Brotherhood!

Funny how both shows feature deadbeat parents who leave and don't take care of their kids.
Parent's in most anime shows aren't very good.

Especially fathers.

You're correct, genderswaps aren't good.

I am now imagining a show where Yuzuyu tries to use forbidden alchemy to bring back her mother, and Kippei's sould ends up inside a Pontiac Firebird.

KNIGHT RIDER ALCHEMIST

This reminds that there's a remake of Remi: Nobody's boy where Remi is changed into a girl. And Mattia is her love interest instead of his best buddy.

The fuck were they thinking? :lol

That's just me guessing, I don't think the story matters much anymore although it was fun to hop over to animesuki's forums and see people speculating that this show and Sora no Woto were connected. Lol. I won't go that far in crazy predictions. Although, who fucking knows, it could be true.

I suppose my problem with the show is it didn't have the right kind of comedy to make me laugh, the right kind of drama to make me care or the right kind of story to keep me intrigued. Maya herself is a strong and decent character who had no one to really play off. The show did excel in animation and facial expressions and some of them were genuinely funny but that just doesn't make a show for me. But yeah, at this point the ending doesn't matter anymore, people who like the show for what it is will like it and people who didn't won't. Like Hitokage mentioned way back in the thread, the show wasn't near as bad as I make it out to be. The show kinda fell victim to the same gripes I had with Index or Sora no Woto, wherein I think a talented capable studio with a decent amount of cash takes an interesting concept and didn't go where I wanted with it so the disappointment is higher. With Index, I've resigned myself that they have a story they have to follow, with Sora no Woto and now Occult Academy being completely original works I feel just this huge sense of a missed opportunities. They could have been truly daring, unique and memorable and instead they're just throwaway properties.

I still feel animation is a storytelling medium primarily and the way they handled it almost makes me feel like they're emphasizing the visual over the story, almost turning the art of animating into some weird kind of fetish where one's supposed to tune into what "looks cool" as opposed to what tells a good story. And again, it's really annoying because you can see all the pieces, I feel if things were just rearranged a bit instead of a throwaway show that some people had fun with like Sora no Woto or Occult Academy that they could have built real franchises that people wanted to continue to see, things that might be talked about years later as recommendations and not just a passing comment on what the Studio's done before.

Perhaps that doesn't fit with their block, perhaps I'm an idiot, but that's what I feel.

I would pay to see this.

I'm starting to think Aishiteruze Baby is something I might like as well, God damnit, as if my backlog isn't big enough and it gets no real ending!

You're hurting my brain.

I don't know, some shows would be better if you switched the gender of the main character. Imagine if they switched Shinji to a man.

He'd be that characterless dude from RahXephon/X'amd and I'd be bored to tears.

Shinja was a pain in the ass to watch, and all the characters were too broken for me to really relate to, but I think characterizing a boy as a boy instead of just the generic hero that does whatever needs to be done just because was actually a good choice. They should have toned down the emo a tad but not take it out entirely.

That's not a man, that's not even a human. He's some freak that uses blandness pheremones to attract multiple mates.
