Well, on the other hand, genderswapped Haruhi Suzumiya improves it a lot, I think.
Nope, her being cute is probably the only reason people like her, as a man people would just finally want to kill it with fire. Ok, maybe it is better.

And besides, after EE it seems people already kinda do want to.

And would a male Haruhi also inherit a male Mikuru so he could dress him in outfits or would we leave Mikuru as a female and up the creepiness factor by 11?

Either way Haruhi needs to be punched.

Lol, that's all the studio, not the author Haruhi or anyone else.

Everyone's fantasizing about punching Haruhi?
50 years from now, Haruhi will be among the things you can shoot in FPS and not get a M rating, joining such infamous enemies, where killing them is not considered a bad thing and is infact socially acceptable and encouraged, like Nazi's and zombies.

Blasphemy.

Guts is just a taciturn, destructive cipher. You could probably swap him.
I don't think so. He's pretty much your classic Byronic hero, especially during the events of the manga, so it helps if he's a crazy/self-destructive man.

Plus, there wouldn't be the same sexual tension between him and Griffith. And then where would we be?

If you gender swap a male character, do you also have to make them moe?

Branduil said:
Seriously though, it'd be like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, but with more petty murder.

"Would you like to go out with me?"

"GACK"

You know i was about to make a post like this. But i decided against it and now a few minutes later you ask that very question.:lol

Would misa be changed in this scenario?

Well there is that galshooter game thing.

I'm fairly certain it's impossible at this point to make a female character someone wouldn't find moe. Even if you actively tried to make a character as non-moe and ugly as possible, it would end up being subverted.

I call this the Moe Inevitability Paradox.

Just make the character "big," men are asses like that.

Do you have to build foolishness upon my foolishness?

That's like a tower of stupid.
But stupid is the most solid foundation to build upon.

D-did I just divide by zero?
I dunno, but I'm interested!

Somewhere at least potentially more interesting. And less creepy.

:lol I really do quite sincerely detest Berserk, now that I've finished it. It started promisingly, but I felt depressingly encumbered by the long, winding journey towards a surrealistic car-crash of a non-ending.

No one will ever finish Berserk, though.

And Gutts-chan is something I reeeally don't want to picture.

Hey, the Golden-Age Arc is just a prequel to the rest of the work.

Which happens to be a harem. But that's just some minor detail.

I know, I know. Smoking manga chainsaw of the forever and everything :lol

I would, on balance, have been more pleased if the demonic creatures had just mashed up every single character into gore and bones. FIN.

There's probably some scientific law that states as the number of volumes in a given manga increases, the probability of it becoming a harem approaches 1.

Only makes sense that it'd eventually mirror real life like that.

Argh, this genderbender shit has gotta die. Horo would suck as a male, Oguie would suck as a male, Murasaki from Kurenai would suck as a male, lets stop this. Well, lets stop after we figure out the Hideyoshi thing.

That's just me guessing, I don't think the story matters much anymore although it was fun to hop over to animesuki's forums and see people speculating that this show and Sora no Woto were connected. Lol. I won't go that far in crazy predictions. Although, who fucking knows, it could be true.

I suppose my problem with the show is it didn't have the right kind of comedy to make me laugh, the right kind of drama to make me care or the right kind of story to keep me intrigued. Maya herself is a strong and decent character who had no one to really play off. The show did excel in animation and facial expressions and some of them were genuinely funny but that just doesn't make a show for me. But yeah, at this point the ending doesn't matter anymore, people who like the show for what it is will like it and people who didn't won't. Like Hitokage mentioned way back in the thread, the show wasn't near as bad as I make it out to be. The show kinda fell victim to the same gripes I had with Index or Sora no Woto, wherein I think a talented capable studio with a decent amount of cash takes an interesting concept and didn't go where I wanted with it so the disappointment is higher. With Index, I've resigned myself that they have a story they have to follow, with Sora no Woto and now Occult Academy being completely original works I feel just this huge sense of a missed opportunities. They could have been truly daring, unique and memorable and instead they're just throwaway properties.

I still feel animation is a storytelling medium primarily and the way they handled it almost makes me feel like they're emphasizing the visual over the story, almost turning the art of animating into some weird kind of fetish where one's supposed to tune into what "looks cool" as opposed to what tells a good story. And again, it's really annoying because you can see all the pieces, I feel if things were just rearranged a bit instead of a throwaway show that some people had fun with like Sora no Woto or Occult Academy that they could have built real franchises that people wanted to continue to see, things that might be talked about years later as recommendations and not just a passing comment on what the Studio's done before.

Perhaps that doesn't fit with their block, perhaps I'm an idiot, but that's what I feel.

Well, the idea was to give people a chance to do something "new". I suppose building a franchise would be an incidental happenstance, but I figure they just wanted to keep doing new, short series every season.

I also don't expect any answers from these types of shows because they don't pretend to show otherwise. Sora no Woto isn't interested in pulling back the layers in the fiction, in the same way that YKK or Aria doesn't tell you why Earth is dying. You just accept it and move on, because all the characters have.

With Occult Academy, the heart of the story has always been about two characters who don't want to be forced into the occult. That's all I was looking for out of the show.

I'm starting to think Aishiteruze Baby is something I might like as well, God damnit, as if my backlog isn't big enough and it gets no real ending!
It's good... if you like that sort of thing. :lol

That's what the manga is as well.:lol

This is what you have become.

This thread only started four days ago. That's not a good sign.

It took the summer thread twenty-three days to get that far.

Well yeah, now that it's Fall there are a bunch of good anime to discuss...

Macross 7-14: Okay, it's getting a little better. I'm convinced that flower girl is a joke character now.

Well, lets stop after we figure out the Hideyoshi thing.

Honestly, I've thought about it, and I've decided that some things are better left a mystery. I think we'll all be better off if we just forgot it was ever mentioned. It's the kind of persuit that could drive a man to do...questionable things.

...and it took the Spring 2010 anime thread eighty-nine days to collect this much...information.

At this rate, the Fall 2010 Thread will close fifty days after it opened. It probably won't carry on at this speed though because anime-season threads tend to calm down after the flurry of posts in the opening.

Things are only questionable if you couldn't find the answer along the way, give me 76 minutes alone with a gender swapped Hideyoshi and I'd be able to give you an answer.
