It's not that you couldn't, but from reading that article I was referring to, Hideyoshi's gender identity is even more funny considering the ambiguity and connotations the Japanese language seemingly provide when regarding Hideyoshi or whenever anyone in Baka no Test associates with Hideyoshi. In English, it's very much possible to do so, but it lacks the playfulness and finesse (and confusion) in Japanese. I need to go look for that article. Yeah, his moe is completely manufactured, so I can see why people would find him moe. The problem is that they don't identify him as "him". It's strange, but I think otaku like him because he is essentially depicted as female, not because he represents some form of gender ambiguity. As I mentioned, there's another instance of cross dressing in the series who is treated completely differently by the characters and presumably by the audience.
