Sengoku Basara finale aired this Sunday, I think. It'll be a few days before it gets subbed.firehawk12 said:I guess that's the last finale of the summer season?
cosmicblizzard said:Well that's definitely worse than me even though I've been jobless/schooless for longer :lol
Like Firehawk said, I'd totally be up to hang out if we were anywhere near each other. Not a drinker either but there's more to the world than just that.
Hah, cool. Presumably you have a manly post ready to go. :lolDresden said:Sengoku Basara finale aired this Sunday, I think. It'll be a few days before it gets subbed.

firehawk12 said:Haha, hey, I took my cue from that failed Toronto meet-up thread. People were supposed to meet at some boardgame cafe and other people were like, "can't we do something that doesn't remind us we're sad nerds?" :lol
Yeah, then you just give in because you don't want to be "that guy". Oh peer pressure. :lolcosmicblizzard said:That's even worse than the obnoxious guys that try to get you to drink even if you don't want to :lol . At least they show up.
Man, that reminds me, there's supposed to be a NY Gaf meetup next month but that guy still hasn't PMed me. Hope he was able to work something out :/

It really has a lot to say.
You can't skip anything either, or else you're missing the descent.

Oh, I'm aware.cosmicblizzard said:Serious question. Do you know how it ends? I always assumed the show was only famous because of the ending which was surely spoiled to a lot of interested people.
I was the TF1 guy while everyone else played GoldenEye. Oh PC gaming.Geneijin said:The classics man! Can't forget the classics.
Yeah, such lies are usually untenable. Of course, for me, being in a bar kind of ruins the lie as well. :lolcosmicblizzard said:Oh, I never give in. I just eventually lie and use the "liver disease" card (while I'm stuffing my face with food that would surely exacerbate that :lol )
Then I find out someone at the party actually has liver disease and I feel bad :/
It's only redeeming value is the ending. Although I might argue it's better than typical harems because it shows the other extreme.Salazar said:I recall reading something about School Days somewhere.

It does make the ending that much more delicious! (or fabulous!)Jexhius said:Oh, I'm aware.
But that wouldn't mean anything without the journey!
I believe that only reading the show in the "harem" context is doing it a disservice.firehawk12 said:It's only redeeming value is the ending. Although I might argue it's better than typical harems because it shows the other extreme.

The OVA?firehawk12 said:It turns out I have a soft spot for action horror comedy and I'm looking forward to the OVA.
I think the nameplate at the end hints at them being married...Oh, given that they didn't show Maya and Bunmei at the end, I wonder if we're supposed to assume that they both aged and hooked up... or if Maya "kidnapped" the kid and kept him around to save him from his mother.
Yeah. :lolJoule said:The Snakes and Lattes thread?
Well, I just take those as one and the same... especially since a lot of them are or will become games.Jexhius said:I believe that only reading the show in the "harem" context is doing it a disservice.
The "dating-sim" context is equally, if not more, important.
Yeah, the Fall chart listed an OVA.Erigu said:[Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin]

I guess so. It's just that a harem show is like viewing a wish-fulfilment fantasy whereas a game involves player choice.firehawk12 said:Well, I just take those as one and the same... especially since a lot of them are or will become games.
I really can't find anything about that...firehawk12 said:Yeah, the Fall chart listed an OVA.
As is almost always the case with time travel stories on TV / in movies, it really doesn't make much sense... But given the genre of the show, I think it gets the same pass Back to the Future did.I figure that implies that the principal's memories were also instantly "fixed" to fit with the new time line then... which means Maya is probably the only one left who even knew about the potential future.
I still enjoy my old PSX games - Crash Team Racing, Bomberman. I know I had more 4-player games but I don't recall their names.InfiniteNine said:Yeah, me and my friends always break out the 64, SNES, and Genesis for some quality hangouts at someones place.

Some details, anyone?
The second Blu-ray/DVD volume of the Occult Academy television anime series will include the first of four spinoff episodes when it ships on October 27. The volume will also contain the third and fourth television episodes, and a limited edition will bundle a CD with the song "Be Together" sung by the character Mikaze Nakagawa, as voiced by the actress Minori Chihara. That's all harems though. The difference is that most shows cop out and have the main character be celibate in order to make everyone happy. Amagami SS's solution was to basically do 4 episode arcs for each girl, while School Days just said fuck it and let the dude bang everyone within the same continuity.Jexhius said:I guess so. Players "act" like Makoto when they're trying to "get all the girls" in a game. Therefore his actions can be viewed as a reflection of how people play such games, and by extension, the players as well. Then throw in consequences...
Furthermore, Makoto unabashedly has harem-super powers. Even more than other harem leads, considering how short the series is. There's not even a serious pretence as for why any girl would like him/continue liking him. They just do because of his super power.
Yup. I'm sure macodin is having a ragathon aneurysm somewhere, but I'm not going to think about it too much. They did the red herring ending and managed to wrap it up in a decent way. Works for me.Erigu said:As is almost always the case with time travel stories on TV / in movies, it really doesn't make much sense... This is just truth. PC games are pretty anti-social though, unfortunately. :lolGeneijin said:TFC > GoldenEye. My friend was too good in GoldenEye.
Ah, but that is the important game changer.firehawk12 said:Amagami SS's solution was to basically do 4 episode arcs for each girl, while School Days just said fuck it and let the dude bang everyone within the same continuity.
Oh, OK, thanks. But I saw that on the official site earlier, and based on the title, I really don't expect a "true" OVA, just a short parody series (about the "tsuchinoko"?)...Geneijin said:The second Blu-ray/DVD volume of the Occult Academy television anime series will include the first of four spinoff episodes when it ships on October 27.
Right, that's why I think it might actually be the best harem show ever. :lolJexhius said:Ah, but that is the important game changer.
Furthermore it doesn't portray having two ladies as "good" it portrays it as "horrifying".
It's attitude to sex is equally dark and soulless.
Ah well. It's all in good fun.
I'm hoping for more random adventures in continuity, but you're probably right.Erigu said:Oh, OK, thanks. But I saw that on the official site earlier, and based on the title, I really don't expect a "true" OVA, just a short parody series (about the "tsuchinoko"?)...
Not sure about that as I'm not much of a PC gamer, but I will say playing an MMO is a learning experience in many ways. I doubt I'm touching one ever again.firehawk12 said:PC games are pretty anti-social though, unfortunately. :lol

Sure if the story sucks and it's a sex romp, but what does that have to do with him doing what you told him not to do? I know I didn't replay Sharin no Kuni to have sex with everyone because the story doesn't really change. What if i didn't want him to have sex with Sekai to spare Kotonoha's feelings and he didn't listen to me?firehawk12 said:Isn't the point of dating sim games to basically have sex with every girl in the game? :lol

I wish there were Steam level stats for these games, but I'd imagine a number of players go through these games 'properly' first time, and then later return without too much concern for "characters emotions".InfiniteNine said:Sure if the story sucks and it's a sex romp, but what does that have to do with him doing what you told him not to do? Sharin no Kuni actually has a story, though. Whereas the main objective in School Days is to just hook up, and sleep, with as many girls as possible.InfiniteNine said:Sure if the story sucks and it's a sex romp, but what does that have to do with him doing what you told him not to do? The superior Haruhi is her own Kyon. She's a more interesting character, I'll give you that much.
It lacks Kyon though
