Well anyway i've been watching Mushi-shi. It is pretty awesome to say the least. I would recommend everyone atleast try to watch the first episode to see if they like it.

I may try getting into Soul Eater too but im not sure.

Also, what is the consensus on high school of the dead?

Read the manga instead for Soul Eater. It's much better after the divergence point.

As for HOTD, I'd say check it out if you can tolerate (or enjoy) completely ridiculous and illogical fan service. I would also recommend reading the manga after finishing the anime.

There are very few situations where you can recommend the anime over the manga. I'm actually blanking on it right now.

Maybe the RK OVA because it turned a great manga story into OMGWTFBBQ.

I've never heard of this before, but I just saw this Ichirin-sha trailer on ANN and it looks pretty cool. Anyone know anything about it?

Kyoani fanboys + Key fanboys + Good anime?

Also anything with a second season gets an inflated score on that site because the people who didn't like the first season don't watch or rate the second one.

I actually liked After Story despite the fact that I do not usually liking Kyoani or Key anime and absolutely hated the first season. It's still nowhere near best anime ever material, but it's worth a watch.

I'd also like to add that anyone who doesn't like it is dead inside. :P

I liked Soul Eater. It's your typical shonen-style action.

I couldn't get into mushi-shi, only watched the first two episodes though.
case in point.

Clannad After Story would have been one of my favorites, if it weren't for the horrible, horrible ending that completely destroys the significance of the entire second half of the show.

I'm pretty excited about this season, it's been a while since I could say that. Bakuman and The World God Only Knows are two of my favorite ongoing manga, so I'm hoping for some good adaptations there. A lot of sequels to mildly entertaining shows as well. I'm not expecting much out of Star Driver though, it looks like a typical disappointing Bones show. Same for Panty and Stocking, which seems far too similar to those terrible late night American cartoons in both style and content. I'll give them both a shot though.

I keep hearing Gintama is better as an anime than a manga. I wouldn't know since I dropped it after I realized how episodic it was.

Edit: And beaten

If it's a complete entity. Then i almost always rather watch the anime adaptation over the manga.

That's pretty much the only example I can think of whenever that topic comes up...

Clannad is typical moe-harem shit. After Story dropped the Harem shit, and turned out pretty good outside one of the worst endings possible.

And it was all but a dream!

I usually do too unless I find out the adaptation diverges from the source material or is just not good. Original FMA is an exception.

Don't forget if its not animated terribly.

How many anime get to complete the manga anyway? FMA Brotherhood?

Most anime start in the middle of a manga run and when they eventually catch up, they either go for fillers, end the anime right then and there or go on a wildly divergent path all of which inspires fanboy rage.

People please do not follow this example. Gintama is one of the best comedies.

Quite alot?

I can't think of any off the top of my head but if so, I'd still go for the caveat that the animation really shouldn't drop off for me to prefer the anime. Because in that case, manga wins because of good art.

I LIKE STARFISH

It was After Story -_-

Plus, I've blocked out the first 10 eps of Clannad from memory.

K-On. And there's probably 3 bingos at the same time.

Another one is Pani Poni Dash but that might be entirely too different from the manga to count. I think REC was quite good too.

Has it stopped being episodic? I'll pick it up again if it has. I mean I like stupid parody comedy anime but not when they're over 100 episodes long without some kind of overarching plot.

Well I enjoy the REC manga more, but opinions are opinions.

No, there are arcs but nothing lasting more than 5-6 episodes. I don't get what there is to hate about that. It has great action, funny parodies, and it doesn't get old with its humor.

I like the REC manga too though I thought the anime was put together quite well for using just one volume of the manga.

I also want to say the Seto no Hanayome anime was better than its manga counterpart but I haven't read it.

Azumanga Daioh, Death Note, Gunslinger Girl, Hidamari Sketch, Monster, Sketchbook... you can make a case for the anime versions living up to the original manga.

Some manga > anime adaptations even if they are in-complete compliment the source material and are worth watching - black lagoon, one piece, hajime no ippo, berserk etc. The good thing about those four is you can dive straight into the source material once you are done with them. I actually watched one piece all the way to thriller bark and went straight to the manga afterwards.:lol

Death note anime is so much better then the manga. It turns the manga into something FABULOUS.

It's amazing you should watch it for the matrix boobies. Then read the manga after you finish the anime, since the anime leaves off in a place that I'd say was one of the better parts of the manga so far.

I'll accept Death Note in the completed manga and superior anime category.

But Azumanga, and Lucky Star, if someone gets wise, is 4koma. It doesn't really have any overarching story. So comparison of source to anime is rather weird.

Nodame Cantabile and Death Note are the only two I would suggest the anime over the manga. Though I pretend that the second part of Death Note doesn't exist in either.

The Nodame Cantabile drama is superior to both. The instrument playing is rather hard to animate so we got lotsa long/still shots in the anime. No such restriction in the drama.

I quite liked the Death Note movie ending and felt it was a good way to end it
with L semi-winning
.

I still haven't gotten around to watching the second movie, because the first movie was so bad.:/

There are some standard shounen style arcs every now and then (it takes like 50 episodes to get to the first one, but they more frequent after that), but it's still mostly episodic. There is sort of an overarching plot, but not much has happened with it yet.

Even if you haven't seen Gintama you should watch this episode. It doesn't really reflect what the rest of the show is like, but It requires no knowledge of the series and is just really good.

You just have to not compare it to the manga and/or anime. It took the manga ending and sorta transferred it to the part where it really should have ended anyway.

One thing that stood out about the movie was how boring the potato chip scene was without the dramatic cuts and music.:lol

Solune said:
That's funny because the manga takes an even BIGGER nosedive.
I read a summary of how it ends a while back.:lol

Erigu said:
'Can't call the anime "superior" with an ending like that, personally...

The ending to both versions are steaming piles of shit, but at least the Yotsuba arc gets finished more quickly in the anime version. That alone is enough for me to give it props.
