They screened Disappearance here at NYCC.
I watched Mardock Scramble instead.

Man they should have had Redline here :(

I'll be sad if and when monster-of-the-week returns...

You mean episode 26?:lol

A few of the upcoming episodes have pretty dull action sequences because Sunshine is so overpowered that the monster-of-the-week enemies don't get the chance to actually do anything before getting Gold Forte Burst'd to oblivion.

It looks like we won't get a repeat of that with Moonlight, however, since the villains are getting a significant power-up right after her reintroduction.

REDLINE is obviously too cool for New York.

Nonsense! New York is the most happenin' place on earth! Which is why they gave REDLINE to cool-impoverished non-New Yorkers.

Yeah pretty much.
Plus I was kind of hoping that someone would have the balls to kill Ranka...
. It was a fun show for the most part. I remember Jex saying before I started on SDF that Macross wasn't about robots, it was about love triangles and music. I thought he was being sarcastic but I soon learned that Jex never jokes about anything.

Macross Zero is the exception to the rule. It's almost straight up mecha porn.

I'm actually kind of sad that there isn't any more Macross to watch. I hear Macross II is terrible though...

There's still the Frontier movie! :D

It's not bad. I liked it more than the show itself and the promise of 100% new animation for the sequel makes me giddy. I'm not ashamed.

Kimagure Orange Road 13 : Kasuga would make the worlds worst poker player.

Oh lord do I hate all the main characters.

Let there be more episodes centred around improbable misunderstandings.

Zero was fun to look at... I just kinda wish more people would go back to the old days of non-cg machines. Its good when its good, but few do it good.

There's a sequel?!

Yeah, I found I didn't actually hate the CG in Zero as much as I thought I would. In Frontier it looks really cheap, but Zero looks cool in a rough kind of way and they seem to take a lot of care in the details and articulations like they would if it were all hand-drawn.

There's a sequel?!

Sequel to the movie, yes. Next year. The first mirrored the first 7 or 8 episodes of the show with alterations, but the next movie will be entirely new.

Thats pretty much in order too. Hope I'm not forgetting anything... Gonna start Crest of The Stars next.
Fixed.

Watch it NOW.

Also you are a better man then me. You have actually watched every macross series in existence, when i still haven't watched macross 7 past the first 3 episodes.:lol although maybe i can out-do you by watching macross II. I actually own it all on VHS.:lol

Eh what the heck, might as well do a synopsis of what I'm watching.

Fist of the North Star 47: Raoh makes lolis shudder in fear, while Razor-Nails Oberstein thinks he can step to him. Ken has been lollygagging with his brother Sick Jesus so his overpowered self isn't there to save Oberstein from the trouncing he is sure to get.

The world is against me, trying to make me buy a backwards compatible PS3.

:lol I'm torn... I don't want to start on Crest because I know it'll be a while before I can buy the other Banner stuff. YYH should be showing up no later than tomorrow.

I'm scared of Macross II. I think everyone is...

There's really only three ways to stretch out romance stories:

1. Improbable misunderstandings
2. Love geometries(triangles, squares, etc.)
3. Tragedies

Why is Yui so awesome?

Also, what happened to Unknown? Did he get depressed over Azusa getting killed off in the saimoe?!

Indeed. But the plot for this episode was rather special.

So our hero dreams that this girl he likes is getting married to this other man. Considering she's 15, that seems pretty unlikely.

Anyway, because he has psychic powers he takes it pretty seriously. The next day we see the girl get dropped off at school by a mysterious man in a suit. She's also sporting a ring on her finger. Then the girl keeps getting phone calls from someone, and eventually she leaves to go somewhere.

Our hero stalks her (obviously) and finds her at a chapel, wearing a wedding dress, with a man, at the alter in front of a priest.

Suffice to say, things get resolved in an improbable manner.

He's currently depressed over the review scores FFXIV is getting.:(

Does ignorance count as a misunderstanding? I remember the "Allison" half of Allison to Lilia being based on the fact that the dude couldn't read any signals.

Oh man, I totally forgot about that. Looks like Mio won. :lol

oh my fucking god

that looks amazing

I'm not going to read any reviews, but I hope there's enough substance to go with the style. It does look good in the bits and pieces that have made it online anyway.

I warned everyone about that office in Heat Guy J 19 :

But no one listened.
Heat Guy J 23 :

Why does everyone stand in the same spot of the office all day, every day? It's like the god dammed Normandy. Oh god, it really is like a Bioware setting. That's why they made it so huge to begin with, the knew by the end of the show it would be filled with characters:

Actually, this was seriously the best episode of the series so far. I really didn't expect that, because the last few have been below awful.

Why did this one work? It didn't have any fights or plot movement or anything of that nature. It did have a solid emotional core though, and Monica's interactions with the crew were priceless. I'm amazed that they took the piss out of themselves with that Boma stuff, amazing.

That sounds ridiculous even by anime standards.

The most annoying of all misunderstandings. Besides, we all know that in real life it's usually the converse situation that occurs.

What is Anne from Akage no Anne doing in Heat Guy J?

You'd think so, but half the shots look like that. Even in scenes that are supposed to be just idle banter :

Obviously that anime was created by a madman. And not the productive kind of madman like Anno.

So, Darker Then Black is an awesome show, so is the sequel even though it suffered from a sever lack of episodes, when are we getting a sequel?

Yep, Darker than Black is pretty amazing, my favourite Shonen Anime :D

However, don't watch the sequel, its trash and rubbish. Watch Gaiden OVA series which kind of conscludes the story (to certain degree as they have made the series as convoluted as hell)

Reminds me of that episode in maison ikkoku where godai through a mis-understanding and thinks kyoko is getting married to mitake and leaves the apartment.:lol

I'm glad the only thing I knew about Redline was the trailer 7th linked pages (ages) ago. It was ridiculous fun watching everything unfold.

A few? Hope it isn't too many. Sunshine's first fight was some stellar stuff though. It's almost unfair how she has the best animation sequences. There's such a splendor to them unlike Blossom's and Marine's.

Yeah, except this was even worse.

I guess I should explain what the deal with the ring and dress and the wedding was.

So Auykawa's sister was getting married, which obviously means that Auykawa had to help her sister by doing a practice run of the whole ceremony with the groom...because the actual bride couldn't for some reason? Erm.

And as payments she got a ring.

And then they act like he's crazy for thinking she was about to get married.
No, I'm pretty sure all those things were pretty powerful signs.

Amazingly, the previous episode was also based around a psychic dream, except for the other girl.

I can see that, the portrayal of body language on Spice & Wolf is carefully done and super good. And you can't go wrong listening to Ami Koshimizu and Jun Fukuyama argue playfully, even if you don't know exactly what they're saying. It's just, it'd be a shame to waste such great dialogue even if you know the general *gist* of it. Great dialogue being so rare in animu. Hence why I am holding out a faint hope that funi will do the work for me and bring over the blurays, presumably as their eventual third or fourth re-release of the show.
It's possible, but those delays are mostly because of reverse importing in Japan. It'll be a year or two if ever. I don't mind too much though unless it's Bandai who never brings anything over.

After watching Angel's Egg, I feel compelled to watch the rest of Mamoru Oshii's catalogue all over again (plus the Urusei Yatsura movies, I guess, which I've never seen) because there's got to be something amazing and brilliant there that I missed the first time around. I feel like this is the only Oshii film, other than maybe Patlabor 2 and I guess Jin-Roh if you count it, that has really 'clicked' with me and avoided boring me to death or putting me to sleep.

Or maybe he's just gone slowly but surely downhill since then, having never found a collaborator as perfectly matched to his material as Amano, or perhaps never having come up with material as well-suited to his talents. Anyways, the moral of the story is that Angel's Egg is bloody amazing, and that allegorical storytelling is best storytelling.

Have you seen Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai!? It's easily my favorite Oshii work to date.

Alright the weekly BD, import, video quality, and release notification post!

- Funimation plans to release Summer Wars Blu-ray in 2011 Spring.

-Eden of the East BD quality rating:http://www.fanboyreview.net/2010/10/09/eden-of-the-east-blu-ray-early-review/
Show: A (It’s an amazing show, that’s all I can say)
Packaging: N/A
Video Quality: B+ (While likely not produced at 1080, the visual quality is great. The only flaw is a lack of extra detail.)
Audio Quality: A (Sounds great. Both audio tracks are relatively rich.)
English Dub: A (It’s a great dub that is worth a listen even if you hate dubs.)
Extras: B+ (Tons of interviews, just… tons. One missing obvious extra puts a little nick, and the lack of extras from the English crew seem suprising.)

Overall (not an average): A (It’s just a great show, probably the best dramatic anime I’ve watched in the last year.)
- Highschool of the Dead to get a US/UK release courtesy of Sentai Filmworks and Manga Entertainment. http://www.uk-anime.net/newsitem/Manga_Entertainment_acquires_Highschool_of_the_Dead.html
10/10/2010:

Manga Entertainment acquires Highschool of the Dead
Zombie anime coming to the UK in 2011

October 10th 2010 has been slated as the day for some new license announcements from Manga Entertainment for a while now, so here's the first of them for you - The company has now confirmed that they have licensed Madhouse's Highschool of the Dead anime, slated for a 2011 release in the UK.

Given the title, it probably goes without saying that the twelve episode series which only recently finished airing in Japan involves a zombie apocalypse, and follows a group of high school students as they fight for survival in its wake.

Manga's current plans are to release the series on both DVD and Blu-Ray with a June or July 2011 timeframe in mind, and with the company working with Sentai Filmworks on the Blu-Ray release...
- US FLCL BD Box planned for Feburary. I guess the delay to next year is to fix King Records horrible Q-TEC upscale. http://twitter.com/#!/funimation/status/27078101673
February. However, that is months away. Please do not hold it against me if that changes.
- Panty & Stocking will be 6 volumes total. Last volume seems to include 3 episodes(75min) http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20101008_398902.html

- Macross F movie BD screenshots by hissatsu: http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1844222
So new scenes look pretty good(~A) but reused scenes from TV, the same(~B)

- Arakawa Under the Bridge 2 BD vol.1 coming out on 1/12(link) 5250yen. It will include first two eps. Bonus/special features: Artbox to hold first & second season, end cards, 12p booklet, cast audio commentary. Vol.2 is 5250yen. vol.3~5 are 7350yen, each of them includes 3 episodes. Since the first season had the BD release, BD release of the second season is not so surprising. What DID surprise me was the artbox inclusion.

- Patlabor: The Movie seems to be getting a HK blu-ray release(link) Japanese audio is not listed though it could be a typo. 10/15 ~$21.9 English subtitles is listed.

- Soul Eater Blu-ray BOX confirmed. BOX1 1/26, BOX2 3/23 26250yen. Spec hasn't changed much from what I already listed before but neowing lists English subtitles and dubbing, so that's new. Special/bonus features: Audio Commentary(1, 6, 8, 14, 19, 21, 24 for box 1 and 28, 34, 39, 40, 45, 51 for box 2), Non-credit OP/ED, PV, TV spot, and Soul Eater Repeat Show OP/ED. Digipak. I think FUNi will release this eventually...

- Tail Enders Blu-ray 1/28 7140yen(link) Special/bonus features: illustrations making, character introduction clips, deleted scenes C&D parts, conti(layout), wallpapers, short clips called "めばえあにめ 百々" and "めばえあにめGarden" which were apparently very popular on nicovideo, 64p booklet, and a prologue manga(24p).
