Oshii only did the first two Urusei Yatsura movies. The first was more in keeping with what the producers and Takahashi wanted, but the second was when he said, "You know what? Fuck this shit. I'm doing it my way from now on." He then left his job directing the Urusei Yatsura TV series 107 episodes in and didn't do anything else UY related from then on.icarus-daedelus said:After watching Angel's Egg, I feel compelled to watch the rest of Mamoru Oshii's catalogue all over again (plus the Urusei Yatsura movies, I guess, which I've never seen) because there's got to be something amazing and brilliant there that I missed the first time around.

I think FUNi will release this eventually...
I only watched like 5 episodes of K-on but I agree with you on that. Though she mainly wins by default since all of the other characters are terrible.icarus-daedelus said:Ritsu is the best HTT member and she wasn't even in that stupid contest, which clearly disqualifies it as the authority on which moe is bestmoe. Anyway, I don't see anything particularly dislikable about Mio, and her reactions to Ritsu's mental tortures are pretty amusing. She also has the second best hair on the show, after Mugi, but I digress. K-On K-On K-On K-On K-On!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, Aria just switched to a fall color palette, and I love it even more now. EVEN MORE. I didn't think this was possible. I feel so good and positive about animu right now. Maybe I should watch some shows from the actual Fall 2010 season so I can be on topic in a thread for once in my life, since I'm in such a nice mood. Or maybe I should just watch more stuff from the 80s-00s. Argh, decisions!
I know, but I've never seen any of them. I figure I should probably finish the tv show first.
The TV show gets really good, so I definitely recommend doing so, but you can be OK with just watching the first episode.icarus-daedelus said:I know, but I've never seen any of them. I figure I should probably finish the tv show first.

It's probably because of the small theatrical release that's going to go on this year.Lain said:That's coming out here (and in France) November 3 2010!
Feels weird that an anime BD is coming out here before America.
Apparently the nausicaa blu-ray is coming out here in november. (Australia). Along with the girl who leapt through time (blu-ray) around the same time. I need to get my hands on those, as soon as they come out.Lain said:That's coming out here (and in France) November 3 2010!

A Black Falcon said:Saki, episodes 21-25 -- Yeah, I finished the series. Liked it a lot the whole way through, I'm definitely hoping for a series two eventually, as the manga gets farther. It's such a fun series... and yeah, Saki's ridiculous powers really show in the later episodes. The way she wins is so absurd, and I don't even know much about Mahjong... :lol
It was interesting that Mihoko was the only non-main-group member to go to the nationals. With how much they built up Ryuumonbuchi, Touka and Koromo particularly, I'd have thought that at least one of the two of them would be going on. It's a little odd to have them as such major characters if that wasn't going to happen, they definitely got more focus than Mihoko and her school. Also, Koromo deserved to go to the family restaurant again.
I mean, sure, of the people in the individual tournament it makes sense for Mihoko to win, if Koromo isn't going to compete (though why she didn't I have no idea), but still, focuswise it was odd. But this series does keep introducing characters, such as that random other girl who shows up for a few episodes in the individual tournament with the wind powers, they act like she's relevant but she ends up having a fairly small role. Oh well, with only 25 episodes I'm sure deciding what to focus on where was difficult. And it does give it a different feel as has been said already, putting a lot more time on the major losing teams and their own perspectives than most similar shows would do. I just think that that had both positive and negative results.
Overall though, good series. I definitely liked it.
Haha, I wish it was just the language barrier that made importing the Spice and Wolf Blurays problematic, but for me the language barrier means nothing, I don't necessarily care if I can understand something, the main problem with Spice and Wolf on Bluray is the ridiculous price, I think it's around 600 US dollars now. I'm crossing my fingers that Funi brings it over in a worthwhile fashion as well, God knows there's a lot I can do with 600 bucks.icarus-daedelus said:I can see that, the portrayal of body language on Spice & Wolf is carefully done and super good. And you can't go wrong listening to Ami Koshimizu and Jun Fukuyama argue playfully, even if you don't know exactly what they're saying. It's just, it'd be a shame to waste such great dialogue even if you know the general *gist* of it. Great dialogue being so rare in animu. Hence why I am holding out a faint hope that funi will do the work for me and bring over the blurays, presumably as their eventual third or fourth re-release of the show.
So anyways, seems like I went through one of my self loathing spats so I decided to watch Motto To Love Ru and Sora no Otoshimono or whatever the hell it's called, is it me or are both seasons so far worse than their previous seasons? Don't get me wrong, they were always terrible shows they just seem worse this time around if that's possible.

If you say so, lol, she's not the worst character on the show and perhaps it'd be an improvement but I don't think it'd be good either way.InfiniteNine said:Both the manga and anime of ToLoveる would be greatly improved with more Kotegawa.

I think TLR is terrible, but I do enjoy his other manga, Mayoi Neko Overrun. I couldn't stand the anime but the manga is enjoyable. It's kind of like how I feel about Saki.zoku88 said:To love ru manga is my guilty pleasure >.>

A lot of the humor is gone thanks to Agemaki getting used to most of the demons now... and I long for a day when a sword is just a sword, and not some stupid mascot animal, and a bedraggled one at that.
The twin-swap thing with Hozuki and Bonbori was just silly, since their VAs are distinctive enough that you just have to recognize which one is Yui Horie (Hozuki) to figure it out. Wasn't exactly a difficult task for the young lad.
And when the lieutenant showed up, oh my, love triangle. Much of the enthusiasm I had for the show is gone now. Just wasn't as fun as the first.

One's taller than the other, their voices are totally different and they probably have something different in their hair as well, not paying that much attention, but yeah, pretty easy.Dresden said:The twin-swap thing with Hozuki and Bonbori was just silly, since their VAs are distinctive enough that you just have to recognize which one is Yui Horie (Hozuki) to figure it out. Ugh, did it? I figured it was just the wrap-up of Nozomi's arc. If it ended thanks to the new To Love Ru... oh well.Did that end? Mayoi Neko Overrun, I mean. It kinda seemed like it did after that last chapter.

Lain said:I enjoyed Saki a lot as well, despite what I feel are big pacing issues that Gonzo put in the show. Some segments felt really dragged out to me just to try and hit the end without going farther than they went.
Thinking back, I started watching it because of someone's comment about Saki's powers, otherwise I wouldn't have watched it and I would have missed the chance to start reading the manga and miss Yuuki's ass-shots.
Was that the slutty one? I liked her. Ambivalent on the assassin-loli. Agreed with Infinite that Yui is good.zoku88 said:And considering that Yami and Momo are my favorites, I'm not complaining ^^
