Welp, I counted up all the anime episodes I've yet to see, of the shows I was following this season, and it's 14. I'm so behind. I think it's time to drop stuff.

I think my number of currently airing shows of episodes I've yet to see is like half of that.

I've been too busy with various game programming shenanigans to really keep up with anything besides PSG and Squid Girl.

Pretty much the only shows I watched all this week was Kuragehime and Oreimo with Panty & Stocking. I can't even bring myself to watch Soredemo and I was enjoying that.

I've had trouble keeping up with shows as well. I keep getting really bad headaches so when I try to watch some shows I just end up falling over on my pillows and taking a nap so maybe the headache will go away
they usually don't ;_;
:(

Still haven't dropped anything other than P&S, which was due to it's lack of quality.

He meant avatar, due to the recent surge in Asuka avatars on and after halloween.

No, I think this is just a phase the thread goes through from time to time.

mAc, you really need an avatar man, so I can give a face to your huge ass posts.

Or you could always imagine that he has an avatar!

But those are rare! All my posts on this page combined are less text than a single post from jexhius or Firehawk12, at this moment. Figured I should put that qualifier in there in the event I bust one out like Shinji standing over a comatose body.

It'd be as real as Asuka's honor or purity then!

In my mind he is the darkness to BlackFalcon's light, a faceless form existing only in shadow.

See?? Without an avatar I can only identify you as "guy who makes giant ass posts in response to black falcon".

Just like Shinji, you have soiled Asuka's purity, sir. I demand satisfaction!
I've been told there's none of that to be had from me.

That's actually kinda cool.

It figures that when I start watching my new Macross DVDs that I get a sharp unbearable pain in my stomache. It hurts so bad I can't concentrate. x:

Luka and I have shared many things...but not that. *blush*
Rolling on the floor in pain for an hour kinda helped.

We saw the natural explanation of what anyone would do. Anyone who found themselves alone in the world with no one but Asuka would choke her to death. Anyone who found themselves alone in the world with no one but Shinji would feel understandably nauseous.

Nope, I'm pretty sure it was that old pizza I ate now. Pain is subsiding but I don't feel like watching anything now. I wish Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label Extra would come faster.

Daioujou will introduce you to a whole new world of pain.

Also, loading screens.

Did they not optimize the 360 version too much? ): Well apparently that patch for it is supposed to come out soon anyways.

You should have got the ps2 version. :(

Black label won't matter, I guarantee you won't make it past the first loop in this lifetime.

Star Driver 02 through 04 -- I don't know if this show is terrible or average, but either way I find myself still watching... it's so stupid, but I'm watching it anyway. I don't know if I'm really bored, of if it's doing something right I can't quite notice. It's so ridiculously generic, but at least they seem to know it and have some fun with it... that's probably what saves it, I guess. Maybe.

Anyway, episode 4 was probably the best one so far. Those scenes with the guy and the girl in the cage are starting to get annoying though, do they have any point at all?

icarus-daedelus said:
Asuka was insufferable, imo, but not even actual good characters like Gendo and Misato and Gendo's glasses could completely redeem Eva. Oh and Black Falcon, if you're reading this, I hear you on Rei, but I guess I just have a lot of hate to go around for many of the characters, so I'm not too choosy about who I hate on and how much.

Asuka is a little annoying, but Rei's just the worst, in character, attitude, and goals. As long as you're not saying that you actually like Rei...

Really though, yeah, Shinji, Rei, and Asuka are all somewhat unlikable characters, that's defintiely true. And as much as I dislike a lot of things about Rei, for most of the series Shinji is the most annoying one. Shinji's the main character, so he's overall the most annoying one (because he gets the most focus). It's only the last episode where he finally redeems himself... but by that point I was so, so annoyed with him that it didn't exactly make up for it. Overall because of that ending I would rank Rei lower, but for a long time Shinji is very, very annoying. That Asuka manages to be the least annoying says something about how irritating the three main characters are, I think... but yeah, she is the best of the three, as little as that means.

Normally I'd expect such a popular anime to have likable main characters, but all three of Evangelion's have problems.

The adult characters are better on average, but all of them are definitely pretty flawed too... just maybe in slightly less irritating ways, depending on character. (And I know, flawed people is obviously the point of the show.)

Oh yeah, and I still don't understand why Shinji starts out the ending of End of Evangelion by choking Asuka. Doesn't really make any sense, and it makes him look bad right after he did one of the only really good things he does in the entire series by rejecting instrumentality. I can't think of any reason she'd deserve it, either. What she did afterwards was weird, too. Bizarre scene.

zeroshiki said:
Asuka totally made that series for me. If she wasn't around we would have had 100% more Shinji whining and catatonic Rei. Would have been waaay boring.

Gah, even just thinking about an Evangelion like that is kind of painful... there's more than enough of depressed, life-denying Rei and depressed, mostly hopeless Shinji as it is.

What, so I'm the good guy? (light is good, right?) Nice. Or are they just arbitrarily designated colors... :)

... But yeah, having an avatar is good. I don't ever change mine, I've probably been using it for six years at least now, maybe more... but why would I, when it fits the username perfectly.

Also, there's nothing wrong with long posts.

Darker different. The anime gradually takes on the mantra that love always triumphs no matter fucking what, but that isn't the case at all for the other iterations.

Huh. Makes me interested in maybe looking up the manga or something.

mAcOdIn said:
Why wouldn't I take that as a positive? You compare it to one great show I liked, Lain, and a well received show like Haibane Renmei and you think I could take it as a negative? Do you think I hold all your taste suspect? Why? Because you happen to like Tessa? Or you find some throwaway show like Samurai Girls entertaining? Lol, I'm far more reasonable than that, come on now. Rest assured, I hold you in higher regard than that.

First, that was partially supposed to be a joke... guess you didn't notice.

Second, I was also referencing how our lists of animes this season were... slightly different. And I don't remember if you like stuff with some thematic similarities to Kino's Journey, such as Lain or Haibane Renmei... if you like Lain though, that's a good sign. Kino's Journey isn't just like that though, it's not a serial series with a crazy continuing plot. It's definitely not just like either of them, as you will find; it is very much its own thing, with a unique perspective and construction. Kino is an observer, visiting and viewing the many nations of the series' unique world. And that's what it's about, a journey of observation. It's such a different feeling from what you expect in anime... brilliant stuff.

... On that note, have you not seen Haibane Renmei, or did you not like it? Because you say "a well recieved show like Haibane Renmei"...

I don't have a PS2 though! I do have a Japanese 360 though and I got this for a good price with the pre-order book so it isn't all bad. Want to get prepared for Daifukkatsu as well at the end of the month!

Still hasn't been patched. :lol Patch has been delayed for almost a year now, but it's supposedly still coming. Good part is that crappy menus and loooooooong loading aside, the port is excellent and highly accurate to the PCB.
At shooting fest not too long ago they said it should be out sometime around now so it shouldn't be too long. I don't think Cave should give porting duties to 5bp ever again though. Awesome to see it's still accurate though, I'll just install the game and hope that alleviates the loading a bit while I wait for the patch.

5pb's Ketsui port is supposedly really good (not my blog), but I'd rather Cave get M2 to port games if they don't do it internally. Their Futari port was amazing.

This discussion is pretty offtopic. :lol

Maybe, but that's also why I'm cooler, because I'm true to myself and not wanting to be any kind of easily definable guy.

Colors? Light isn't a color!

Did you choose your user name as, damnit, what's it called when you use different words that begin with the same thing to mean that word, anyways, did you choose your username as one of those things instead of buddy fucker? We used to always use Black Falcon instead of Buddy Fucker when I was in the service for some reason, not like we were opposed to cussing or offending people so not sure why it was done.

I noticed, but I figured it was the kind of joke you thought was half true and wanted to nip in the bud the concept I'm your mirror opposite or arch rival.

I know what it's about, I've been meaning to catch it for awhile so I like it's concept.

Sadly, it's in that same "meant to see it" category as Kino's Journey was.

Well, there is in that most people don't bother to read them!

I'm not complaining, I make them myself quite often.

Branduil said:
That sounds rather high-concept. Also, Oshii made a comedy?
Well, high concept generally means a work for the masses, like Titantic or something. This is definitely the opposite. More like, what if a small group of people argue about everything all episode in a rather avante-garde 60's French theatrical kind of way.

And yes, Oshii was brilliant at comedy. Certainly vastly superior to much of the comedy being produced these days. What made you so sad, Oshii?
Branduil said:
How many scenes does it have where two characters speak at each other in cryptic philosophical monologues?
How can I say this....in episode one three characters discuss whether or not to answer the front door for 9 minutes. The person outside is ringing the doorbell throughout.

Yeah, I heard about the great port but I'm still skeptical of them as a whole. M2 really looks like they did a good job though. My next purchases are going to be Futari and Ketsui when my next check comes in. (Unless I be irresponsible and order one of them sooner.) I'm getting in that Hori 360 pad in tomorrow too, so it'll be nice to play DeathSmiles and Espgaluda II with a decent dpad and not a inaccurate stupid piece of unholy shit. I'll go into Daioujou without that horror every disturbing the gameplay. Stupid official 360 controller is going in the trash.

Maybe it'll be on topic if they make a Dodonpachi anime!

So you're saying it sounds like it's high concept in the summary, but it truly is non-ironically high concept in execution, thus creating a double irony as high concept is a term meant to be ironic. Ironically, by playing the term straight it becomes even more ironic.

Brilliant!
