anyone still use crunchyroll? is paying worth it?
or is there a better service? I wish Netflix would offer something more or Hulu should have much more than they do now
I'm trying to catch up on this season
CR's not bad, it does what it does, whether it's worth paying for depends on if they have any shows you like.
I'm a little miffed about streaming, all streaming, not just CrunchyRoll but Funimation, Youtube, Hulu, all of them and that's that their HD streams suck. They suck. I don't give two shits if you crank the resolution and axe the bitrate, it's, damnit, why fucking bother? Ugh. Anyways, it is what it is,we at least have the chance to watch these shows legally hours after they air in Japan so it's not a big deal I just hate seeing a HD label for something that IMO looks worse than over the air SD in motion.
But anyways, back to Crunchyroll specifically, if there's one thing I like about them it's that they essentially facilitate you watching them on anything you own. There's a Boxee, iPod and iPad plugin that all can access your paid content. That's pretty nifty. The Anime Network isn't that liberal, Hulu at least now has a iOS plugin but it's pay for all the content and Youtube, well the ad supported stuff generally doesn't work without Flash so it's a non starter for most devices but a computer, so Crunchyroll is actually viewable on the most devices and I wouldn't be shocked to see them whip out a GoogleTV plugin in the future either.
CrunchyRoll's forums however are fucking terrifying.
But Hulu has a much better back catalog.
Like I said, if it has shows you like on it it's not bad but frankly, the amount of good shows each season is slim and they generally don't get the best ones so for me the back catalog is the bigger deal, but that's purely taste, someone else may like 1 or 2 shows they get each season. Like Firehawk, he seems to like Aoi Hana which CR got.
