I saw that edit!

There's always you know who also:

I'm actually totally fine with Rei.

My first anime was Samuria Pizza cats, but I had no idea what anime was when I watched. I think it was either Dragonball or Sailor Moon that actually made me aware of what anime was.

I think the first anime I followed on TV regularly was Salior Moon and Outlaw Star. I didn't watch DBZ until quite a while after.

Robotech, in today's world, would have caused massive wailing and teeth gnashing instead of the warm feeling of nostalgia it does now.

EDIT: Surprisingly, macodin, Smiles and Cris, Dresden and flawful caused a non-Asuka chain.

This is not acceptable.

Well it was Dragonball that I saw early on. I didn't watch Dragonball Z until a lot later.

what the hell is wrong with Robotech? The original rocks

It rocked when it was called Macross.

If you're talking to me, it still does.

Why, not enough girls making out, there's only two women interested in the male lead and there's not enough courage power that the main character can cast?

The whole chopping up 3 series and joining them into one bit.

Yeah, they didn't air Dragonball here when I was younger so I had to wait till they actually aired it on Toonami. Not in English anyways and I didn't feel the need to learn Spanish to watch it either.

Macross goes down smooth.

Ahh, you still count all that shit, as far as I'm concerned there was no second or third generation of Robotech, so I'm not being fair.

Yes, if counting all the Robotech generations as a whole product than Macross is infinitely superior.

well the internet was not around when some dude took two japanese animes and glued them together - the 80s cartoons are innocent of any crimes done by stupid americans let it go

Robotech made me late to school nearly every morning and I had to rush back home to catch it again in the afternoon

things like this do not happen these days - children know too much

EDIT: over the years I have seen more and more people praise Macross as better... Macross took many years to grow on me - I just felt betrayed when Macross came on just after the storyline that was called Robotech ended. So I could not get into Macross until college

but it did grow on me and is my second favorite from that time period and I could agree Macross is better in many ways

this could never happen today the anger from changes cuts and edits would drive fans nuts - let it go

I'm with S&C. I grew up with Robotech. I even loved Gen 2 and Gen 3, warts and all.

Its a part of my childhood and short of finding out that Rick Hunter liked kiddie porn and Myria was actually a man, I will always love it.

yay, top of the page.

yup I cannot even hate the dude that pulled off the edits and merge that show was just what I loved it had everything that Voltron and He-Man only skimmed over. At that age I was hooked so this anime is Holy and pardoned of all crimes

The Spanish channel had the only available new episodes that I knew of after Goku went SSJ. I watched a few of them actually.

Chii~

The episode where Kyon bought panties for Chii was genuinely LOL-worthy for me.

:lol love that series so much... chi runs out of energy episode and the rescue nailed the whole series for me as something I would always love. The music and animation just owned me

too-too-too-too-YEAH-LET ME BE WITH YOU~

The conclusion in the ending confused the hell out of me but finding out about those guys marrying love plus characters has finally, after 8 years, put it all into perspective.

not as confusing considering they had a few story lines going about people falling in love with their persocoms in the show - the baker who married his but she was was broken and losing memories and got hit by a car, the teacher who's husband kicked her out of the house in favor of shacking up with his persocom, the rich little boy who has created a persocom to look like his dead sister.

Freya who fell in love with her father (creator) had to shutdown because she did not want to hurt her mother or cause issues since she knew her father loved her mother.

Elda (Chii) too her sister's memories within her before she faded. Chii in turn started to love Hideki so that whole confusing ending took place

took me a few reads of the manga and re-watch of the show just to understand that ending
I think the ending is the low point of the story could have been done better.

trying to find stories like this one every season but nothing like CLAMP stories out there

as for the music it was the haunting second ending theme that did it for me

I'm amazed some of you are able to remember which was the first anime you watched. I was far too little to be able to remember that. I can only remember that I was watching Mazinger, SF Saiyuuki Starzinger, Cyborg 009, Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999, Princess Knight etc, but which one was the first one, I couldn't absolutely remember it.

Btw, too much Asuka love and too little Rei love. Gotta balance it.

I just saw it, and yeah, I cried a little :(

Yeah, I remember watching Robotech, Sailor Moon, and DBZ as a kid, but I don't remember which came first. Probably because back then they were just cartoons I happened across on TV, not something anyone really revealed to me.

Was interesting when they showed two persocoms in love with each other (since that wasn't the main intention)

It still amazes me that people are so butthurt over Robotech. Its not as if it was done intentionally, it was done out of necessity. It was either they combine them into 1 series for syndication or it wouldn't have come out in america. Yes, it was stupid, but knowing the reasoning behind it I can see why they did it.

I'm not sure if there are people butthurt about it, really. At least not in this thread. The discussion was mostly about the reality of it, for example, happening now in this day and age.

It would have been brutal.

There is also a difference between watching cartoons on TV and watching "anime" as it were.

And it would have included dubbed honorifics.

Ninja scroll was one of those films i always wanted to see when i was like 13. But i was scared that my dad wouldn't approve of renting it, but ironically when i was getting into anime my dad tried to rent perfect blue and ninja scroll for me, but i said no and made up some excuse.:lol
That movie really would have worked fine without all the sexual elements.

I think thanks to gaf I can no longer read anything like "anime was much better i the 80s/90s" without nearly bursting out laughing.
Harsh but fair.

I don't remember what my first anime movies where called, but I know that my uncle showed me them. They either contained monsters murdering everyone and rape or samurai murdering everyone, sex, and rape.
God bless your influence, Kazou Koike, you fucking crazy lunatic.

DBZ, Sailor Moon, and Gundam Wing are what turned me into crazed lunatic like the rest of you. If only I could go back in time and stop Toonami from airing.

Edit: And its time to stop being lazy and join the Asuka Brigade!

Maybe filler was the wrong word. I mean the "non-important" ones, like the one that split into two.
Wut, that's the one that bonds Shinji and Auska. It's very important!
