Dint listen to Branduil or Macodin. They're our resident grouchypants.

Thanks and holy crap at the animation in that gif. I don't even know what it is, a car? A building? :lol

EDIT: Ah, a car in a building, still: Wth?!

Just watch it. Get past the first episode and you're good to go. It'll make perfect sense in time.

Now that's just crazy talk, this man's a damn, dirty, deceiver!
You guys like squid-girl but all I can see is a tentacled Index!

Man, loads of anime this fall.. Any ones worth watching? I don't wan't much moe stuff but is "The world god only knows" any good?
Panty&stocking & Kuragehime.

The only anime you need this season.

Squid Girl 7

1 - Oh my god Ika really IS reverse-tsundere for Nagisa.

2 - This show is at its best when it sets out to humiliate Ika in hilarious fashion. She's like a less pathetic Charlie Brown and it owns.

3 - Oh hey they actually brought back that girl from that other episode. Also there better be ikadrumming.gif within the next few hours or I'll be disappointed.

Dresden said:

Except in Squid Girl it works because she's a pathetic lovable idiot in a comedy while Index is a whiny asshole in a dumb shonen.

OreImo TWOGK and Zakuro are the only new shows I care about. AmagamiSS and Legend of the Legendary Heroes are the only continuing shows I care about, fuck your koolaid I drink swill and like it!

I had a feeling she'd show up again, if only because her dad seemed like he'd be pretty important. She seems to be set up to play a bigger role than I thought, though.

You can be grouchy and accurate.

Ahhh I don't even know where my posts are on the page anymore.

Someone that enjoys Shaft anime doesn't have the right to call himself grouchy.

That is all.
I don't know if anyone actually labelled themselves as grouchy.

Largely because "grouchy" isn't a word you tend to find used much, except by young whippersnappers.

What a coincidence Jexhius. You changed back to your old avatar, just as i managed to get a hold of the film that the subject of your avatar is from.

The World God Only Knows is great. Someone mentioned Amagami SS -- avoid it like the plague. Unless you like a protagonist begging to lick the back of a girl's knee as she actually humors the idea of it as fulfilling.

For shame. I recognized the source immediately.

Kissing girl's knees, kissing girl's tummies, Amagami SS is awesome for these reasons and many more (I need to restart watching it)!

Katanagatari 11: Daaaaaaaaaaaaaayuuuuuuuuuuuuuum

Wow that' s like. I dunno. Wow. I'm not sure if this is a cliche or not. On one hand it feels like one but on the other hand I have never seen time-travel plot devices used like this, or in this setting.

I've talked about it, but I would never recommend it. Should have heeded the warnings!

And those absurd moments are probably the best parts of the show. The ridiculousness is simply laughable.

Speaking of which;

Amagami SS - 19
Holy Miya. They're prepping for that episode, aren't they?

I dropped this a while ago. Are they really gonna go for it?

They've already announced an episode for Miya awhile ago. It's episode 25 after Ayatsuji's arc I believe. Not sure if they'll actually go for it since it remains to be seen until the episode airs, but there was a lot of onscreen time for her more than usual in 19.

I was just referring to how awkward the bath scene was.

I think they're DVD only episodes... and oh yeah, now I remember that bath scene. :lol

They did a pretty good job on the filter, except for SHINY HAIR.

But omg dat hair animation.

I'm sure I'm talking out of my ass because I don't know shit, but in my mind Aoi Hana looked a lot cleaner, much like the book.

Maybe it's the resolution or something.

A Certain Magical Index 4

So I'm told this sword chick is actually a decent character. Let's see for ourselves, shall we?

Sword chick says she got rid of everyone with a Rune, so her and Touma are all alone. She's pretty straightforward as she wants Index. After Touma resists, she demonstrates her ability, the ability to kill someone seven times, whatever that means. Of course, since this character isn't a complete moron, she's well aware of Touma's powers and shows the dude she means business. -- And now Touma's surrounded by wires which, not being magical, tear up touma's hand a bit. Wait, so you can actually attack people with something other than magic and electricity and crap? Touma, being the idiot he is, doesn't oblige and continues to get the shit beaten out of him. It'd actually be a refreshing change of pace if all the bad guys took two seconds to realize that Touma is a complete pussy at anything other than punching and kick his ass a bit instead of going for all the herky-jerky magic crap, but that wouldn't make things very interesting so whatever. -- Oh hey, more talking and stuff. At least Touma realizes how useless he is and tries to talk to sword chick, and hey, it actually kinda works. Oh look, the sword chick isn't really a bad guy and just wants to get Index back to protect her from her own ability or something. They're friends, you see?

Oh look, the commercial break. I feel like I'm totally mailing this in but I can only work with what I've got, right?

So Index is suffering from... information overload from being able to memorize everything! That's... kinda stupid but whatever, I'll roll with it. "We erased her memory?" "Why?" Touma, I like you and all, but you're being dense as a brick right now. -- After the incredibly obvious realization that they're erasing her memories to prevent overload because the books have to stay in there, sword chick does mention that she needs Index in three days, cause they can only do the memory erasure thing once a year to save her life.

Okay seriously I have to pause here cause we're 12:38 into the episode and this is how it's went so far: *talk* *talk* *SLASH* *KICK* *PUNCH* *talk* talk* *talk* *talk* *talk* I could go on you know. This is not compelling television.

Touma, of course, resists even more, saying that Index is his friend now and always was. I should point out that "was" in this case constitutes precisely two days but whatever, it's anime, you all know how it goes. After more bitching sword chick has had enough and gives Touma a thoroughly deserved verbal beatdown about how she and fire mage feel and how Touma doesn't know jack and shit, followed by the single best moment of the entire series to this point, Touma getting a roundhouse kick straight to the face, followed by the mother of all ass beatings.

See, if the entire show were just beating the shit out of Touma (and Index for that matter) it'd be the greatest show ever.

And now Touma rambles on about... actually I have no idea what the hell he's trying to say here, it doesn't really make any sense. Someone enlighten me maybe? -- And now we have Mikoto and Kuroko after an episode and a half hiatus. After noting some damage in the area Mikoto sees Index in a crowd. -- The sad part is that this commentary still isn't quite as boring as the episode itself, save for that minute of Touma rapage, that was pretty cool. -- Touma wakes up in bed three days later in Loli-sensei's house with Index, which just so happens to coincide with the memory erasure! Index mopes for a bit that she wasn't there to help him (maybe ditching him wasn't the best idea?). After some more empty character development, sword chick and fire mage show up. Index offers to give herself up so they don't attack Touma.

Seriously guys, I got nothing.

Aoi Hana had a sort of watercolor feeling going on, at least for the backgrounds. I don't remember it being particularly clean, but I don't remember a whole lot about it really except the annoying ending.

I dunno, I think Hourou Musuko (sp?) looks pretty nice, other than the absurdly shiny hair.

I remember the characters looking almost as good as the ones from KnT. But I haven't seen it since it aired either. The ending was fine though. :p

In the manga, the girls finally hook up but there's no way the anime would have even reached that point. Worse still now that any chance of an anime sequel is gone because of the assholes in Japan who only buy K-On and Bakemonogatari shit. (Hypocrisy is great!)

Been catching up on Fairy Tail. I guess with the popularity and all, they finally decided to get a budget. Doesn't seem like a clip show anymore. The Gerard vs Natsu fight was epic as fuck. I hope the Laxus fight is just as good.

Really, I'm just happy we got another legitimately good shounen adaptation that will probably tough it out until the end of the manga (albeit with some heavy filler) unless there's a significant drop in popularity at some point. Doubt that will happen anytime soon since the manga is more popular than ever now too.

Finished Banner II today.

Very good. Started off slow, but the 2nd half was great. This show manages to build a lot of tension through simple dialogue and red dot vs green dot combat...

How is Fairy Tail compared to the other shounen? I figure it might be the only one I might watch simply because I can't be bothered to watch 400 episodes of guys engaging in homoerotic activities... err, I mean, "fighting".

icarus-daedelus said:
I don't know why you're subjecting yourself to this, jman. Seems so painful.

Hey even Shana was given the entire first season, even if it was totally obvious I should have bailed as soon as they spent three episodes on her origin story and managed to do dick-all with Shana's character while simultaneously having her spend the entire last episode and a half of that in bandages and nothing else because you know, why not? I guess I feel it'd be unfair if I bailed out of Index after only four episodes.

Or I'm just a masochist who actively seeks out terrible entertainment. Whichever works.

Well how much experience do you have with shounen in general?

Fairy Tail is interesting in that it's kind of generic but pretty consistent and enjoyable. There's an overarching plot, but most arcs are self-contained and only recently in the manga has stuff happened that will significantly affect it.

But yeah, it's fun, funny and pretty badass at certain points even if it rarely enters "epic" territory. Of course this could be a good or bad thing depending on the person.

If you do decide to watch it, keep in mind that it's a pretty crappy adaptation until like the 20s. It's still enjoyable if you have no knowledge of the manga, but the animation was pretty bad until they got a budget.

icarus-daedelus said:
Okay. :3

I think you meant to call it "Engrish."
Excuse me, but that's Eigo! Or maybe Engurishu. :lol

You're right, the ending was fine, but this is what I mean: no chance of a second season, so for people who don't like to read comics (I'm illiterate :p) it's frustrating that it ended at the point where it seemed to be getting started. :lol I mean it was actually decent, better than a lot of the shit JC Staff has put out since their glory days of 1997, and I would've watched more of it.

Well, to be honest, it's not like you missed much. They introduce a blunt character who goes around asking people if they're gay, there's yet another play, and after the confession there's a bit of awkwardness but it's all very slow burn.

Also, for all the hubbub that they put into the coming-out scene, the manga never really reaches that level again - at least, not yet.

Recently, only FMA:B I suppose. I guess PreCure doesn't count? :lol

I really don't know anything about Fairy Tail though - it's interesting to me because it's relatively new and won't require any investment to get into unlike One Piece or Naruto or Bleach (or Gintama, if that's considered shounen). I'm somewhat interested enough in the genre to want to get into one just to see if I can get back to that "place".

Certainly FMA:B stoked the waning flames of manliness in me by the time it got to the final arc. Roy Mustang is just so fucking Boss.

icarus-daedelus said:
Well, not all of us have functioning gaydar you know, I do this all the time.

But surely you can see where I'm coming from; I want to like JC Staff, so I'd rather they do more of this than A Certain Scientific Whatever II or (god help us all) Shakugan no Shana III. I don't want to build Aoi Hana up as a great thing, but rather merely as a thing which does not star anyone named Shana, Louise, or Index.

ARE YOU GAY LIKE MY SISTER? DO YOU KISS OTHER GIRLS???!?!??!?!

Certainly Aoi Hana is probably their most... I dunno, "la dee dah" thing they've done recently. But for how much I hated Kaichou, I thought it was fine as a shoujo adaptation. Hatsukoi Limited was fun in terms of just high school angst (although it has the most horrid tsundere character as well... but at least she's not as bad as Kirino). Hayate season 2 was fine, if not really memorable and people seem to like Zakuro.

Yeah, I'm just looking at their wikipedia entry now. :lol

Hmmm. I don't know if FMA is the best example of a battle shounen. Fairy Tail is more like Dragonball/One Piece/Naruto/etc.

If you're worried about time investment, it's still there but would only be accumulated time over the course of many years (unless it gets cancelled) rather than having to marathon it. If that turns you off, I say don't bother.

Unless you aren't a fan of manga, I would recommend reading that (same for those other series you mentioned as well actually) if the time investment is really a big problem since you can absorb the same amount of content in a fraction of the time. I was able to reread 500 chapters of One Piece within 4 days. I would love to rewatch the anime from the beginning, but it's just too much.

'Just checked the official site, and it seems episode 25 will air on TV whereas episode 26 (the sister-centric one) won't. Odd choice.

Naw, sadly I generally save my manga reading for obscure yuri, shoujo and romance titles. I still need to crack the seal on Ooku (why is manga sealed nowadays anyway? It's not like there's any sex in it). Yes, I'm a closet girl.

I think I don't mind watching week to week since it's just 30 minutes or whatever. But yeah, it's the insurmountable number of episodes that puts me off watching the other shounen. It's the same reason why I haven't started Slam Dunk even though it's like the major canonical sports animes.

Are the fight scenes cool at least? :lol

I think they know people will pay 80 bucks to hear "Nishishi" again. Makes perfect sense to me!
