I learned my lesson, first this, 13, and then Squid Girl.

A Certain Magical Index 12

So after the whole lot of nothing that was the last... well the entire series up to this point really but episode 11 in particular, I'm expecting more nothing. My comments will be shorter this time around cause honestly this isn't worth the effort.

Loli-sensei and the harem are eating, she demonstrates Schrodinger's cat nonsense to explain that espers can replace reality or whatever. -- Mikoto on the bridge and it's backstory time! Random insert song, she was used to help people when younger and now her powers are being used for nefarious purposes and then we get ANNNNNNGST. Touma shows up, we find out they're sacrificing clones to make Accelerator a level 6 esper. I care because oh who am I kidding I care about none of this. -- Mikoto wants none of this of course and we get some leadin to the obvious Touma-Accelerator encouter with some more ANNNNGST, since apparantly losing to Accelerator will make them stop the experiment since they can't observe her or something like that. Touma stops her, Mikoto prepares to force her way through, commercial time.

Touma calls her bluff because he's the protagonist and that always works. After one "I'll kill you for real except I won't cause I'm tsundere as HELL" shot, Mikoto shoots him for real except she doesn't actually take him out because see the previous sentence. And then ANNNGGGGGGST. -- God this MUSIC WHY IS IT SO BADLY TIMED/INAPPROPRIATE FOR THE SCENE. Sorry, this is still grating on me even now. -- "I indirectly killed a lot of people" "But you didn't kill me" "I tried!" "No you didn't. You're a good person inside." "Well I will kill myself and save everyone!" "You're full of shit" "I KILL YOU" "lolno" "*explode attack from grief*" "told ya" "WAAAAAH" There I just summarized the last 5 minutes of the episode.

THE ENTIRE EPISODE WAS LITERALLY ONE CONVERSATION BETWEEN TWO CHARACTERS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SHOW.

The Accelerator fight could not possibly be half the amount of payoff needed to cover this bullshit.
ur so tsun :3

If his masochism actually has to do with his dad somehow and the show gets real dramatic from that, I'll laugh.
After reading this post
I was expecting the baseball to hit him during that flashback lol

Still enjoying it. Is the whole show mostly short arcs about characters haunted by some douchebag god that gave them an awesome power?
Yes.

Na na na na na na na na hey hey hey goodbye

A Certain Magical Index 13

"I just wanted to save her" See Touma, is it so hard to not waste 20 minutes of my time and get to the point?

Clone goes to the next batterfield, talks about Touma for "some reason", blah blah -- Oh hey THERE'S the loli bathing scene everyone was waiting for! Fitting since I'm pretty sure the studio realized they needed something to hold people's attention during this technobabble which basically amounts to "Espers distort reality, and theoretically everyone should have them but some people don't and we don't know why"

Touma finally wakes up from last episode after getting knocked out and Mikoto sulks over him. Touma realizes that if Accelerator is beaten the experiment's hypothesis would be null and void and would save everyone. So basically, the thing the audience deduced themselves at the start of last episode. -- Touma says he'll defeat him, yapp yapp you have no chance he's too strong yapp yapp I'm going anyway yapp yapp. -- Clone shows up where Accelerator is, more babbling and confirmation that Accelerator is power-hungry etc. He wants people to be afraid of him. The "experiment" begins, and it's commercial time.

Touma runs towards the location alone, Mikoto starts following after some introspection, and it's battle time. We some actual action in all this and some actual battle tactics! Clone gets punched and knocked down, and Touma shows up to save the day! Heroic words, taunting from the opponent, walking forward fearless, we've all seen this before. Of course since it's close to the end of the episode they're going to pad out more babbling suspense so they can actually fight next episode. -- Well, looks like we do get some action as we get our requisite taunting attacks from Accelerator to show Touma what a badass he is. In all fairness the visuals are pretty nice. Accelerator tries to kill Touma immediately but he actually slaps his hand away. Touma runs some more and the episode ends with Accelerator using the dust in the air to create a bigass explosion. Touma is certainly dead now!

I expected too much to think they'd actually start and end the fight in one episode, so just for you all, on we go to 14

Of course Touma doesn't die cause Accelerator realized exploding stuff around him wasn't such a good idea and held off. Episode starts out fine for once as Touma gets some punches in on the guy, nullifying his ability when he gets near. Since apparently this dude knows jackshit about how to actually fight Touma easily beats him down when he gets near. -- You know, we already clearly demonstrated last episode that Accelerator could launch crap at Touma and beat him up so why doesn't he just do that instead of trying to directly use his power at him. -- Accelerator prepares some sort of compression attack and Mikoto shows up to attack. Which ultimately turns out pointless since it looks like the dude is gathering a plasma attack to fire at Touma. The attack is powered by controlling wind, which Mikoto can't do anything about. But then she thinks about windmills... oh no please don't tell me this is supposed to be the big climax.

So the clones pikachu the windmills and screw up his timing so he can't easily control the wind anymore which... why should this help again? Couldn't he just use... well, anything else as an attack? Touma gets up and taunts the dude, and instead of launching something he rushes forward again and Touma, once again, punches his lights out. This time Accelerator is down for the count.

And so is Touma! Who wakes up in a hospital with the clone and finds his hand on her... sigh I guess it's all lighthearted hijinx and post-arc babbling from here on out. And there's still 8 minutes left. Whhhhhhhy. -- Clone is gonna be away for a while for [insert random reason here] so she doesn't interfere with the story, and she leaves. Mikoto shows up the following morning and we get lots of empty talk and staring, though at least we get Touma being an asshole for at least a little bit. -- It hasn't happened yet but I'm waiting for it.... waiting for it.... waiting for it.... there we go! I knew we couldn't get through an episode without our favorite lovable loli nun showing up! Because if there's one thing I wanted to see before this arc ends it's Index! Of course... of course... And the next episode is a fanservice episode.... yeah....

Yeah so I'm pretty much done here. Hopefully I'll find plot summaries of the following arcs that aren't overly wordy self-masturbatory nonsense like on the wiki page. Any suggestions?

--------

This show is 7% pretty awesome 1/2-minute action setpieces surrounded by 93% bullshit. It managed to make me look at a show like Shana and figure maybe it wasn't so bad after all. At least on that show I was engaged enough to make it to the end with only one major interruption. Now I'll go and watch the Index-tan shorts because, if the Shana-tan shorts were any indication, JC Staff at least knows how bullshit their source material is and how to tear it into pieces in comical fashion.

And I'm never doing this again because reading over my unedited comments makes me want to slam my head on the desk. Must I be so verbose about everything?

DeathNote becomes pretty worthless after
that certain someone dies
and I lost interest in the anime and manga afterwards. I like to think it ends with Light having
won and ruled over mankind with an iron fist.

Swimming lessons were pretty awesome, though.

I dunno, the power to make a billion pedophiles cream their pants instantly is nothing to sneer at.

Index stuff

Yep, that's pretty much all you need to see. The only thing that's come close to topping the Accelerator fight since it happened is him punching a teenage teleporter girl in the face, launching her a few blocks right into the side of a building and Touma punching a little nun girl.

...Am I watching this to see women get hit?

He just gained +10 RESOLVE after Boobs nearly got killed by the new chick's trap. One more woman for him to punch.

I find it funny how every single villain in season 2 so far has been female in some capacity.
It wouldn't be Index without lovingly detailed fisting sequences of female antagonists. I'm pretty happy.

The Accelerator fight was pretty underwhelming honestly. It started out interesting enough and with the way the episode 14 preview went and how Touma just knocked him away with his arm, you'd figure that the fight would just be finding a way for him to get close so he can deck the dude.

Of course, we lose that tension when Accelerator attacks him head on again. And gets punched. And attacks again! And gets punched. And again! Punched. I mean yeah I'm expecting entirely too much from the show at that point to not default to the "good guys win cause of villain's hubris/pride/stupidity taking over" resolution, but they managed to make it downright confusing when the guy who can supposedly manipulate of the velocity of anything around him gets flustered from windmills. Windmills! And then when his little plasma attack fails he directly attacks Touma again! Like that worked the first 15 times! That's the kind of stuff I expect from shows like Dragon Ball Z. And you know what? It's fine in that show because stuff like DBZ is all about the spectacle, about taking in the action and riding it to the end. That just doesn't work here.

Despite all this and the apparent tone of my posts, I wouldn't really call this show an abomination or anything like that, it's at least watchable (to an extent). It's like what who-was-it said earlier. It's dumb shounen. Really dumb mind you but still.

Looks... interesting!

Vs Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon and Despicable Me.

Hmmmmm.

I think he has a pretty good shot but I haven't seen TS3.

Why would he have a good shot at all? The Illusionist will very likely bag that award.

Haven't heard of Illusionist!

Edit: Oh, guy who did Triplettes. Well then I guess you're right.

The best shot anime has at getting another animation award is probably Kon's final film. If Sony and Madhouse build up the hype enough, it'll almost certainly get nominated at the Academy Awards imo.

Has Ghibli never been nominated for one of these?

I'm not sure whether to continue watching Gankutsuou or wait for the DVD set to arrive in the mail and watch it in much better quality. Decisions decisions...

I'd say it's mostly about banter, but hey.

New AWO Podcast http://www.awopodcast.com/2010/12/bonus-daryl-wastes-your-time.html - Just a solo Daryl e-mail's session as he slowly goes mad over an hour or so. Still good.

The most interesting parts are his discussion of "fan-culture" (the lack of a shared cannon) and "otaku culture" (obsession and variety).

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai Episode 10:

ZZ 1 : Um, shouldn't this be an episode? I know it's like, real and all, but a small re-cap would have been fine.

Setting a gooood tone.

ZZ 2 : Nothing especially bad happened here, certainly no more than the opening of Zeta. When do I get to the parts that will make me "raeg"? When will I need *gifs?

Macross 11: Man, this space-town-ship sure has a lot of music recording equipment. How useful. Some pretty jerky animation as well.

Max proving once again that he's far better than the hero. Awesome.

Ayakashi 3: Now that's melodrama!

Also, is this supposed to be spooky at any point?

Shit I didn't even realize the Mirai Nikki OAV was only a few days away.

Speaking of which, shouldn't we be ready to go for a Winter thread right around now?

Squid Girl 9

First: That was cute. Also Ika is a dhalsim player, who knew?

Second: I feel like there are many words I can use to describe Takasu's little role in this episode but none are coming to mind. Just several blank facial expressions.

Third: The ending :lol :lol :lol :lol

Just wait until you have
Yazan as comic relief and Bright chasing chickens around.

At least things get good after you get past Episode 15 (although 14 and 15 are the absolute pinnacle of despair).
